“As one of the first Cerec users, I am well aware of the advantages of full-contour
ceramic milled restorations. Zirconia materials feature good physical properties
and a pleasing appearance. Because they are comparatively “more simple” – and
therefore more cost-effective – to process, they would seem to be future-oriented
materials for restorative dental surgery. Soon they may also – depending on the
indications – largely replace metals” Dr. Frank Jeschke – dentist/oral surgeon,
Augsburg
“For me, ZENOSTAR is an ideal and highly cost-effective addition to the range of services I offer in the price-conscious segment between esthetics and basic restorations.
Using only three basic shades, I can reproduce all 16 classical shades. The process
is simple and reliable. My customers are attracted by the excellent translucence of
the material which gives amazing esthetic results. This means that I can achieve
results of a consistently high quality regardless of personnel. The dentist can prepare the tooth in a minimally invasive manner; we can combine monolithic dental
restorations with veneered ones. Bridges are possible. ZENOSTAR can do a lot
more than other monolithic single crowns.” Jörg Boger – Dental technician and
business graduate, proprietor of Boger Zahntechnik, Reutlingen

„A few products come along in our lives as Technications that not only please
the patient, the oral cavity and us all at the same time and are profitable in the
making, like the ZENOSTAR crown (the all-zirconia restoration). I started producing
this restoration years ago with regular zirconia, but there is very little comparison to the restoration we now produce with translucent zirconia. It has increased
our business by 30% in this economy. The Dentist often comments “are you sure
these are not layered?” Charles Warren cdt – Dental Consultant, Tempus Dental
Laboratory, Springville (Utah)

Clinical case: Three-unit ZENOSTAR Bridge
1. P reparation – Cords inserted before preparation serve to protect the periodontal margin.
2. Impression taking – A hydrocolloid
alginate compound was chosen as
impression material.
3. Correction – After sintering, the fissures
can be adjusted with a diamond-tipped
bur.
4. S hading – After polishing the occlusal
surfaces, shading can begin.

The ZENOSTAR material
The translucent material combines the highest possible flexural strength with the esthetics
of natural tooth shades. ZENOSTAR Zr Translucent is especially suitable for making monolithic
restorations. For full contour ZENOSTAR restorations, there are two ways to create the shade:
by means of the ZENOSTAR brush infiltration method or the ZENOSTAR stain technique. There
are four shade variations available (pure, light, medium and intense) which form the basis for
reproducing individual shade nuances.
ZENOSTAR Zr Translucent can also be used as an esthetic framework material. Especially in
combination with the one-layer technique, this is a fast and cost-effective way to make individual and biocompatible dental restorations in tooth shades.

Hydrothermal ageing
ZENOSTAR Zr Translucent posses excellent hydrothermal ageing properties. These excellent values are
achieved by improved raw material receipe and lowered sintering temperature.
Preparation of ZENOSTAR crowns and bridges
Occlusal wall thickness 0.5 – 1 mm
ZENOSTAR crowns and bridges allow gentle preparation of the tooth substance
and can be prepared in accordance with the guidelines in the ZENOTEC preparation
guide. This means that only a minimal amount of tooth substance (0.5 – 1 mm)
needs to removed from the occlusal and axial surfaces*, in order to guarantee a
long life for the restoration. All preparation sets suitable for zirconia can be used.
The conus angle of the prepared tooth stump should be approx. 4 °. This gives
Molar with minimum wall thickness
indicated
the best result when scanned in the lab scanner and ensures adequate mechanical
anchorage of the crown on the tooth stump. The greatest circumference of the
prepared tooth should be clearly visible in the area of the gingival prep margin.
A delicate chamfer preparation is recommended, since this is gentle on tooth substance and does not reduce the strength of the crown when compared to a more
pronounced chamfer preparation.*
An anatomical design which supports the cusps and a shoulder or chamfer preparation all round is also the preferred method for monolithic restorations.
Tangential preparations and prep margins which lie more than 1mm below the
Uniform chamfer
gingival margin, as well as undercut areas and largish cavities are detrimental to
the subsequent quality of the ZENOSTAR restoration.

relation to the crown design.
Circumferential shoulder preparation
Impression-taking, fitting, mastication simulation study
Impression-taking
The prep margin can be revealed and dried for impression-taking using, for
example, the double cord technique, a vasoconstrictor, electrosurgery or a laser.
Fitting
Impression-taking; contours are visible
ZENOSTAR restorations can be fitted using conventional or adhesive techniques.
Mastication simulation study
In a recent study, done at the University of Zürich, ZENOSTAR crowns
stood out by virtue of their low susceptibility to abrasion at the ceramic material
and at the opposing teeth during the cheewing simulation study.
Fitting / cementing
The abrasion properties were compared to those of natural dentition, a non-precious metal restoration and a veneer
on a zirconia framework. The test was carried with six test
specimens which were subjected to a force of 50 Newtons
for 1.2 million cycles in an aqueous environment whilst
undergoing temperature change. The 1.2 million cycles
correspond to five years’ wear. This simulation showed that
the polished ZENOSTAR crown suffered the lowest amount of
abrasion of the material and also caused the lowest amount
of wear on the opposing teeth. The study also revealed how
important polishing is. In the five-year mastication simulation, the polished ZENOSTAR crown was definitely less abrasive
than a CoCr alloy or a veneering ceramic and in this regard
even less abrasive than the natural tooth itself.
Study of abrasion behaviour at the opposing teeth*
* The study is being prepared for publication (Stawarczyk B, Özcan M [2010] ‘Abrasion
studies using various dental materials’, Dental Materials Unit, University of Zürich).

ZENOSTAR Polishing Set Premium + Basic
The abrasion properties of ZENOSTAR restorations are determined by the smoothness of the
surface. Above all with occlusal corrections, it is essential to manually polish the surface to a
high shine.
With the ZENOSTAR Polishing Set, WIELAND offers a systematic polishing concept with highquality diamond polishing tools designed to give perfect results in next to no time. The set
contains instruments with grain sizes specially selected for all stages from material removal to
high-luster polish.
Das ZENOSTAR Polishing Set is available in two versions: Premium and Basic.

ZENOSTAR – quality you can rely on
uses only raw materials and primary products of the
cording to ISO 13485. In this process the purity and composition of the initial material
and the production quality of the finished discs are constantly controlled. ZENOSTAR
Discs fulfill all the requirements of international product standards, the German Medical Devices Act and the European Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC and are entitled
to bear the CE mark.
The printed certificate lists all relevant information pertaining to the individual ZENOSTAR restoration. In addition to the names of the patient and the customer, this includes
the type of restoration, type of material and the individual ID of the blank. The order
number and the dates of scan and design are also documented here. It therefore provides
a complete quality management record from the dental practice and the lab.
