From the Headmasters
I wish the teams every success and enjoyment for the
tremendous tour to Australia and Singapore. The College has
run so many excellent tours over the last twenty or so years
and is particularly indebted to the fundraising team of parents.
To these tireless parents and our Australian hosts, I give my

We are very grateful that hockey players and netballers
from Epsom have the opportunity of visiting the beautiful
and exciting countries of Australia and Singapore. Our
thanks go to all those in the United Kingdom and abroad
who have made it possible, and especially to schools
and families in Australia who are taking our travellers in
and making them welcome.
The touring party is not simply going down the road
to play old rivals and returning to the comfort of home.
A tour to the New World is a marvellous experience, an
exciting new country, a seemingly endless procession of
engaging and welcoming new friends.
I am confident that those who make contact on the
field will develop a healthy respect for one another as
players and as persons, and that new friendships and
understandings will be fostered as a result.
Best Wishes
Jay Pigott
Headmaster (from September 2012)
What a tour we have planned!
Queensland is our first stop on this exciting tour. On arrival
we will be swiftly transferred to Moreton Island where we
will shake off any jet lag exploring this pristine destination
just off the Gold Coast. A highlight will surely be seeing and
possibly feeding the wild dolphins. The following day, we
return to the mainland for the first of our matches and hosting at
St Margaret's and Clayfield. We stay overnight at the iconic
Surfers Paradise, another new destination for us and famous
for its beautiful beaches.
Sydney sees us visit old friends at Barker College and
we relish the prospect of playing some top teams here.
Home to many of our present and former ‘gappies’,
Sydney has much to offer us as tourists. Sport is
definitely in the Aussie blood with courts, pitches and
arenas round every corner so it is fabulous to meet so many like-minded competitors. The attractions in Sydney are numerous and we hope to sample a few in between our
tough fixture schedule.
Our Australian leg finishes in Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory. We look forward
to seeing the different attractions laid back Darwin has to offer, from the rich Aboriginal
culture to the National Park nearby. We know competition is going to be stiff, going on
previous years’ experience!
With its diversity of culture and lively buzz, Singapore has always been a favourite stopover
location. Competition here is ever well prepared and the heat inevitably poses an additional obstacle. A chance to refresh, meet up with a few OEs and sample some amazing
sights before we head home.
This year the tourists are a talented group of young ladies who love their sport. I know
they have been excited about the tour for a number of months now and we are all looking
forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
Meeting old friends, making new ones and experiencing the culture of other nations
through sport is a fantastic opportunity.
I thank the pupils for training hard, their parents for their generous support, the accompanying staff for their commitment. To our host schools we owe a huge debt of gratitude for
making our trip possible. Without all this support and effort, we would not be embarking
on a trip of a lifetime.
I can't wait!

England Netball captain
From the GB Hockey Captain
Dear Epsom College Touring Party,
Dear Epsom College Senior Touring Party,
I just wanted to write and wish you the best of luck for your upcoming tour to Singapore
and Australia. I have played Netball in both countries during my time as an International
Netball Player and I know you will have a fantastic experience. Australia, being the world's
number one netballing nation, is an amazing place to play the game.
"On behalf of the Great Britain women's squad I'd like to wish you the best of luck on your
Hockey tour to Australia and Singapore in August. It is fantastic that you have got the
opportunity to travel as a team to such wonderful places to play a sport which I'm sure
you all live, breath and play so often! 2012 is such an exciting year for sport in our country
and I hope that you can take this excitement with you to the places you visit. I have very
fond memories of playing in Australia, in particular my first game at the Sydney Olympics
in 2000 against the hosts Australia. They are a competitive sporty nation; go out there and
take it to them. Represent your country with pride and respect. Make sure you let us know
how you get on in your matches.
They are so passionate about their netball and the facilities they have out their will astound
you. Singapore will be equally as exciting. They hosted the World Netball Championships
there is July 2011 which was my last ever match and tournament for England. It is a
special place with great people who are extremely friendly and love their sport.
I wish you every bit of success on your tour but most importantly, enjoy every minute of
the country's culture and the sporting competition and give everything you have in your
training and your match play.
Best wishes,
Karen Atkinson

Staff Profiles
Mrs Fi Drinkall Tour Manager
Fi is Head of Physical Education and Director of Sport at the College and has been
at Epsom for 15 years now. Married to Jud, who is Tour Manager of the boys' tour
this summer, in her youth her major sports included Hockey and Racket sports
mainly, and after studying Sports Science at Loughborough University she went
straight in to teaching Physical Education.
She enjoys all sports, a good curry and a nice glass of Rosé. Sevé Ballesteros
and Steve Redgrave rank among her sporting heroes and Mr Drinkall describes her
in three words as dedicated, effervescent and loveable!
Most of all Fi, aka 'Drinks' and 'Mrs D', is known for her 'travel bug', not one to stay put in the UK in
the holidays, as she loves to encounter new places and meet new faces.
A real tourist, Fi is looking forward to some good competition and to bringing the group home safely
having had a wonderful experience.
Mrs Joanna Bennett
I am known as Jo and joined Epsom College in 2008 from Greenwich University. I
do not have a hockey position but in netball I played GK. I am looking forward to
everything on tour and am very excited!! My sporting hero is Usain Bolt and I would
best describe myself as crazy, supportive and a Mum.
Miss Katie Cloonan (Cloons)
Known as Cloon(s) I joined Epsom College in 2006. Before that I taught at Chigwell
School (TOWIE country) after leaving uni. I coach sport at the college and defence
in hockey, enjoy lacrosse and also running. On tour I am really looking forward to
re-uniting with my roomie, Mrs Irvine, and helping Mrs Drinkall choose her latest pair
of flamboyantly-coloured trainers! My sporting hero has to be Michael Jordan and
I would describe myself as positive, curious and driven.
Mrs Elizabeth G Irvine - EGI
Sometimes known as Mrs Swerve or Irvs. This will be my fourth hockey and netball
tour to Singapore and Australia, and apart from enjoying the company of the tourists and staff, I am looking forward to revisiting destinations and going to new ones.
My sporting heroes are Eric Liddell, Olympic athlete, winner of the 400m gold medal
in the 1924 Olympics - immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire, and Jayne Torvill
and Christopher Dean, Gold medal winners in the 1984 Winter Olympics - whenever you hear Ravel’s Bolero I think of them.
The Players
The Players
Izzy Ashe
Camilla Bole
My nickname is Izzy or Iz and 3 words to describe me would be
loud, sporty and blonde (in every way!).
I am looking forward to Australia because it would definitely be on
my 100 things to do before I die. It’s somewhere everyone has to
go and I can’t think of a better way to see its top cities than with my
best friends whilst playing two of my absolute favourite sports and
just getting a bit competitive!
Before I came to Epsom in M4 I was at Feltonfleet Prep but since
being at Epsom the sport has taken by breath away, having played
for both the under 16A’s unbeaten hockey team as centre forward
and the netball team as WA/C this year gone by. I can’t wait to
play as a 6th former at an even higher standard having had this
experience of a lifetime under my belt.
Natalie Bartrum
My friends call me Nat most of the time. I am 17 years old and I joined
Epsom College in M4, having come from my prep school which was
Downsend School. At Epsom I have greatly enjoyed playing a variety
of sports for the College including netball, hockey and rounders. I
play a number of positions, both in attack and defence. In hockey I
play midfield, generally on the right and in netball I play shooter, either
as GA or GS. I also enjoy rounders as my summer sport since I can
practice my throwing arm as a deep fielder. I cannot wait to go to
Australia because I have never been there before, but I have been to
New Zealand to visit family who live there who I hope may be able to
come to see me when I am closer to their part of the world. I am also
looking forward to seeing the sights in Australia, particularly in Sydney
and I cannot wait to do lots of shopping whilst out there! Three words
that best describe me are: caring, bubbly and generous.
Amber Billings
I’m Amber Rose but most people simply call me Amber. I’m 16 and
have been at Epsom for four years. I have always loved sport and
the competitive aspect from very young. I play at mid or centre
forward in hockey and any centre court position in netball. Three
words I would use to describe myself are fun, lively and talkative. I
am really looking forward to going on tour especially visiting Sydney
and spending 3 weeks in the sun. My sporting hero is Usain Bolt as
I think his achievement will be remembered for many years.
My name is Camilla but most people call me Cami. I am 17 and
have been at Epsom since M4, which I joined in 2008. I am about
to enter my final year at Epsom but before I went to Danes Hill
where I played in the B netball team as GA and GK/GD. However,
now I play both hockey and netball, playing defence positions in
both, often centre defence in hockey and WD in netball. I am very
excited about the tour and am looking forward to visiting Singapore
in particular, but mainly I am hoping to have a great time with friends
and will hopefully meet some new people. Three words to describe
me would be enthusiastic but competitive.
Imogen Bole
I’m Imogen, but everyone calls me Imi. I’m 16 and will be in L6
this September. I have been at Epsom since M4 after having been
at my prep school, Danes Hill, for five years. I play for the U16A
netball team as either WD or C and I play for the U16B hockey team
at right wing. I am most looking forward to visiting Australia and
Singapore because I have never been there before. Also, playing at
new venues against unfamiliar opposition will be a new experience
for me. My friends say that the three words which best describe
me are determined, competitive and has a good sense of humour.
Scarlett Brice-Adams
I'm Scarlett but I sometimes get called Bobbi because that's my
middle name. I'm 15 and going into L6. I have been at Epsom
since M4 and I originally came from a tiny school called Aberdour.
Since playing at Epsom my positions are WD for netball and left
defence for hockey. My sports hero is Cristiano Ronaldo and I'm
most looking forward to playing teams from a different country
and seeing hot Australian guys! The three words that would best
describe me are ambitious, loud and bubbly.
The Players
The Players
Charlotte Brown
My name is Charley Brown, but I get called Chazza mostly. I started
Epsom in M4 in 2008. I love playing netball, where I play GA or
GS, and hockey where I play left defence. If I were to describe
myself in three words I'd use cheeky, lively and clumsy! I love both
hockey and netball as I'm a sporty and very energetic person, and
am always up for a bit of fitness! I'm really looking forward to the
tour as I've never been to Australia, and I'm really excited to share
this new experience with all my friends. I also can't wait to see the
sights and meet loads of new people along the way.
Samantha Brown
Hey, I’m Sam and am going into L6 after tour. I’ve been at Epsom
since first year and previously went to Danes Hill. In hockey I play
wing and in netball I play GA or WA. I’m excited about the tour
as I’ve never been to Australia before so am looking forward to
cruising around. I can’t wait to go because it will be a fun three
weeks with my mates after our exams. Three words that would
best describe me are loud, chilled and positive.
Sarah Chapman
Hi I’m Sarah but sometimes known as ‘Sez’. Previously at
Downsend, I have been at Epsom College since M4 and am now in
L6. I have enjoyed playing for the thirds for both hockey and netball
as RW and GK but also do a lot of music at school. I am so excited
to go to Australia as I have never been, particularly Sydney and
Moreton Island as they both sound incredible! 3 words to describe
myself would probably be musical, fun and friendly. I can’t wait for
the tour!
Charlotte Dialdas
I’m Charlotte but am sometimes known as Chaz. My friends
describe me as bubbly, chilled and cheeky. I am 16 and I am going
in to L6 next year. I joined Epsom in 2009 in M4 coming from The
Hawthorns School. I play goalkeeper in hockey and have played
for Surrey and been selected to play regionals. I have also played
for U16Bs in netball as GS. I captained the M4 and U4 A teams
in tennis. My sports hero is Jenny Dawkins. On tour I am most
looking forward to playing hockey and the hunky Aussie men on
Bondi Beach.
Tara Dolan
My name is Tara but some call me T. I’m 16 and currently in year
11. Before coming to Epsom I lived in Hong Kong for two years
and played hockey for their U18 national team. Prior to this I was at
Danes Hill. I still play forward in the U16 As and also enjoy netball
and athletics. My sporting hero would probably be Courtney
Hyman. On tour I am most looking forward to Australian accents
and hitting the town with the galdem. The three words that I would
use to describe myself are happy, reem and cheeky.
Natalie Edwards
Hi! My name is Natalie, but all my friends call me Bubbles. I joined
Epsom in M4 and went to Tormead in Guildford before coming
here. I play centre forward in hockey and GS/GA in netball. I have
been playing netball for seven years now and love every minute of
it! I am most looking forward to celebrating my birthday in Australia
on the same day that we have one of our matches. I would describe
myself as bubbly, energetic and confident.

Emily Hailstone
My name is Holly Ellis however I get called Hols by most of my
friends. I love hockey and netball (especially hockey). I play in the
B hockey team as left mid or centre forward. In netball I prefer to
play GA or WD, because they are the two positions I feel most
comfortable in, but I am happy to give any position a go. I am so
excited to be going on tour to AUSTRALIA!! I am looking forward
to everything we are going to do on the tour it looks amazing. My
sports hero is Rafael Nadal who is a Spanish tennis player and a
former World Number 1 and in my opinion the best tennis player
ever. My previous school was Danes Hill School and I am currently
in 5th form at Epsom and I am going into L6 in September. Three
words to best describe me are talkative, giggly and committed.
Olivia Gelardi
Hey my name’s Olivia, but mostly everyone knows me as Liv or
Gelard (Only my mum calls me Olivia…). I originally went to Danes
Hill School, but moved to Epsom College 4 years ago. Netball and
hockey are both my favourite sports, in which I play WD and left
defender. Having never been to Australia I am most excited about
going to Sydney and seeing the sights on the jet boat trip! I am also
looking forward to playing the Australian teams and meeting some
new people. I would describe myself as competitive, a team player
and easy-going.
Ashley Gillan
My name is Ashley but some may call me Smash. I came from
Downsend to Epsom in M4 so have been here since the first year.
I play left defence in hockey, as I have done for the past 4 years,
although I have occasionally been asked to play something out
of my comfort zone such as centre attack. With netball I have
bounced around the court, playing positions from GD to GA and
I currently play C! The part of this tour that I am most looking
forward to visiting is the Gold Coast and meeting the host families.
I would describe myself as fun, enthusiastic and loud.
My name is Emily Hailstone, but most people call me Em. I joined
Epsom College in M4, having been at Downsend beforehand. I play
in both hockey and netball teams at Epsom College. For hockey I
play in the A team as right mid, I also went on the hockey tour to
Holland last summer. For netball I play WA for the Bs. I’m looking
forward to Australia because I think it will be an amazing experience
and a good chance to get closer to the upper year. Three words
that describe me would be happy, kind and friendly.
Hannah King
I’m Hannah but some people call me Han. I’m 17 and have been at
Epsom since M4. Before Epsom, I was at Rosebery School where
hockey was not on the sport curriculum - mainly playing netball as
GA. I’m currently on the 1st XIV for Netball playing GA and have
played for Surrey. Now I’m working towards a place in the Surrey
Storm Super League squad next season. I have also played in
the 4th team for Hockey, playing left midfield. My sporting hero is
Tamsin Greenway, an England netball international. I am definitely
competitive on court, as well as being positive and ambitious. On
tour I’m most looking forward to visiting Sydney as I’ve always
wanted to go there!
Jodie Koep
I have been at Epsom since M4 and am going into L6. I previously
came from Danes Hill. I play C for netball and for hockey I play
centre or sometimes left defence when I play for Surrey. On tour
I am most looking forward to visiting the Great Barrier Reef and
beaches and visiting Singapore for the first time. Three words that
describe me are determined, enthusiastic and South African.
The Players
The Players
Tuscan Lambrechts
I’m Tuscan, and Lydia calls me Nutsac (rearrange the letters!) I’m 16
and going into L6. I joined Epsom in M4, from Danes Hill when I was 13.
I play GA in netball and in hockey I play in centre or left defence. I also
enjoy swimming. On tour I am most looking forward to the Australian
beaches and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. The words that
describe me are determined, enthusiastic and South African.
Eliza Melville
I tend to be referred to as Shmelville or Liza. To sum myself up
in three words, I’d say that I was relaxed, enthusiastic and
competitive. I was at Danes Hill before Epsom where I started to
play hockey and netball. I now play for hockey First Team where
I play left midfield and also play WA for the netball 2nd's team.
The things I am most looking forward to when going to Australia
are seeing the dolphins, hopefully climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge
and eating lots of Aussie food.
Clare McCallum
I am 16 and currently in the L6, looking
forward to going into U6 in September.
I joined Epsom in M4 after having
been at Danes Hill School where we played both hockey and
netball. In hockey I tend to play right defence and have enjoyed
playing in the 2nd XI this year, and in netball I like playing WD
or GD. My sporting hero has to be Johnny Wilkinson and I
am most looking forward to being in Singapore and seeing all
that it has to offer! The three words that best describe me are
friendly, cheerful and optimistic.
Tayla McGaghey
My name is Tayla and I am 16. I joined
Epsom halfway through U4 as I moved
back to South Africa for 16 months
between prep school and senior school.
Next year I’ll be going into L6. I have been
playing in the B hockey team as centre
defence. I enjoy playing especially as my
team is so enthusiastic. I love summer

world so I am very excited about visiting
Australia. The three words that describe
me are bubbly, focused and loud.
Lorenza Mallardo
Hi, I'm Lorenza Mallardo but my friends call me Lola. I recently began

hockey team to the u16Bs. I also love playing netball and I aspire to
be like Becki Weller who should really be in the A team. I'm excited
to go on tour and see parts of Australia. Three words to describe me:
fun, happy, friendly.
Eimear Monaghan
I’m Eimear and I am 17. I’m going into U6 and have been at Epsom
since M4. I would describe myself as determined, cheerful and
sporty. Before that, I went to Aberdour. I play hockey for the 1st
team as centre mid and have played outside of school at Purely
Walcountians since year 5. I also play netball and am currently on
the 2nd as either GD or GK. I also do athletics in the summer, where
I do middle distance running. My favourite sport is hockey. I am
most looking forward to seeing Australia and being with my friends
in the sun!
Roisin Monaghan
Hi! I’m Roisin but sometimes I’m called Roish. I’m 17 and I’m going
into U6th. Before I came to Epsom College, I went to Aberdour
where I played hockey and netball. I love both these sports
especially hockey. Outside school, I played hockey for Purley
Walcountians and for the last two years, I’ve played hockey for
Surrey. At school I play for the 1st XI hockey team as a defender
and in netball I play GD or GK. The thing on tour I am most looking
forward to is having fun with my friends in a country I have never
visited and on the other side of the world (although I am not looking
forward to the long flight!!)! Three words to describe me are: sporty,
energetic and motivated.
The Players
The Players
Briana Norris
Rebecca Saunders
My name is Briana but on the sports field people sometimes call me
Bri. I’m 16 and I have been at Epsom for 3 years after leaving Danes
Hill. I have been playing right defence in hockey since M4 and due
to my height I have been playing GK in netball since then as well. I
also enjoy playing tennis but hockey and netball are definitely my
favourites. I am really looking forward to going to Australia as I have
never been there before and feeding the dolphins will be awesome
too! The words to describe me are tall, American and outgoing.
I have been at Epsom for 3 years having come from Danes Hill. At
Epsom I am best known as Saundy or Saunders partly because
I have the same name as Becki Weller. I really enjoy the sport
that Epsom offers, especially netball and hockey, where in netball
I play GD and in hockey I play either left forward or left mid. I’m
really looking forward to travelling to Australia and Singapore partly
because I have never been over to that side of the world before
and I am really looking forward to experiencing it with all my good
friends. I also cannot wait to sightsee and hopefully pick up a
cracking tan on the way. Three words that best describe me are
competitive, relaxed and amusing.
Gemma Pullman
Lydia Sheils
I am Gemma, I’m 17 and I joined Epsom in M4 from Feltonfleet.
In hockey, I usually play LB or RB, but can also play forward and I
take the strike on short corners. In netball, I usually play GA (when
I haven’t injured one or both ankles!) I also love tennis. On the
tour, I am most looking forward to trying out my Australian accent
on some locals and having an amazing time with my friends. My
sporting hero is Rafael Nadal because he is a fantastic player who
never gives up. We also share the sporting ritual of eating a banana
before playing! The three words that best describe me would be
funny, creative and caring.
My name is Lydia but I am sometimes called Lyds and I am currently
in 5th form. I have been at Epsom since M4 and before that I was
at Downsend and Sutton High. I have always enjoyed sport and I
used to do a lot of swimming, but now I prefer to play hockey and
netball. For hockey I have played in the U16As as a defender and
for netball I play in the U16As as GS. I am really looking forward
to going to Australia and Singapore and seeing how we compare
against teams from the other side of the world! The words that
best describe me are enthusiastic, determined and good sense of
humour.
Olivia Robinson
Lindsay Sinclair
Hiya, my name is Olivia or Livi and I would like to think I am a
fun, cheerful and friendly team player at Epsom. I joined Epsom
in the M4th year as a small and shy girl and have spent the most
wonderful past 4 years of my life developing close friendships with
girls who will now share this amazing experience with me. I am an
avid hockey player and usually play a centre or attacking position
for the 3rd team. I started playing netball at my previous school,
Feltonfleet, and now contribute as a keen GD. I am most looking
forward to this incredible trip of a lifetime Down-under – even
though it is my first real trip away from home; the sun, sea and
shopping are bound to keep me occupied!
My name is Lindsay, but I am sometimes known as Linds. I’m 16
and joined Epsom four years ago when I came from my previous
school, Freeman’s, so next year I will be going into the U6. I have
been playing right midfield for the 1st XI this year and also enjoy
playing WA in netball. I also love summer term sports because
tennis is one of my favourite sports. I can’t wait to go to Australia
because I’ve never been before and am most looking forward to
seeing the Great Barrier Reef, as well as playing teams from the
other side of the world! The three words that best describe me are
fun, enthusiastic and friendly.
The Players
The Players
Ellie Thomas
Rebecca Weller
My name is Ellie but my friends call me Elz and I am 16 years old. I
have been at Walthamstow Hall in Sevenoaks since I was two and
a half and am now joining Epsom College as a weekly boarder in
September for my A Levels, which I am really looking forward to. I
love all sports, especially netball, and the main positions I play are
GA, GS and C. I can't think of a better way of getting to know my
new class mates than going on tour with them for three weeks! It is
an amazing opportunity to go to Australia and I am looking forward
to making new friends and seeing the sights. Three words I would
use to describe myself are funny, thoughtful and enthusiastic.
I’m Becki and otherwise known as WELLLLLEEEERRRRR or Becks.
I joined Epsom in M4 and will be going into L6 in September. This
year I played for the 1st XI hockey team as a defender. I also play
netball normally as a WD or WA but I much prefer hockey. It is my
first time to Australia and I’m so excited to spend time with my
friends on tour. I am probably most looking forward to sightseeing,
touring Sydney and perfecting a tan on the beaches! Three words
to best describe me are gullible, relaxed and happy.
Danielle Tullett
Hannah Wilkinson
My name is Danielle but most people call me Dani and I’m 16. I’ll
be going into L6 in September. I joined Epsom in M4 3 years ago
and I came from City of London Freemen’s School where I also
played for the As in hockey. I play left-inside-back in hockey and
GD in netball. Swimming was always my main sport and I swam
at National level with Guildford City but I also played hockey at
Surbiton hockey club. I’m definitely most looking forward to the
weather in Australia and working on my tan! The three words that
best describe me are crazy, sporty and nerdy.
I’m Hannah, sometimes known as Wilko. I’m 15 and will be going
into L6. I arrived at Epsom in M4 from The Hawthorns and play
either right or left wing in hockey as well as making the Surrey
squad this year. I also play C or WA in the netball team and I
can’t wait for the sports tour as I’ve never had the chance to visit
Australia or Singapore before. The three words that best describe
me are motivated, sporty and competitive.
Amelia Warner
Rachel Williams
My name is Amelia Warner. I joined Epsom in 2008 in M4 from
Greenacre School. I play defence in hockey and in the centre court
in netball - mostly as WA, C or WD. I'm really looking forward
to going on tour and am very excited about seeing Australia and
having the opportunity to improve my sporting skills and meet new
people. If I had to describe myself in three words, I would say I was
fun, focussed and happy!
My name is Rachel Williams; some people call me Rach or more
lovingly Ginge. I have been at Epsom since M4 after leaving the
Hawthorns School at age 13. I'm now 16 and will be going into L6
in September. In hockey I play wherever I am needed but mainly
on the left. At school, for netball I play GA but GD for my club (odd
combination, yes) I also spend a lot of time hitting a small white ball
around a green field, which some people like to call golf. 3 words
to describe me would be athletic, determined and competitive.
I'm most looking forward to relaxing with my friends on the sandy
beaches and exploring Sydney with all the sights it has to offer. Tel: 020 8390 1839

Did you know there’s more to the perfect smile
than straight teeth? Managing the shape and
development of your child’s jaws can be vitally
important for improving facial aesthetics and
ensuring the best possible results.
When researching who to trust with your
child’s smile, it’s advisable you look for a
Specialist Orthodontist whose expertise and
work reflects the importance of facial aesthetics.
After all, you will be putting your child’s most
precious asset, their face, in their hands.
The difference between a Dentist
and a Specialist Orthodontist.
In the UK, all dentists are permitted to provide
orthodontics, and can even call themselves
‘orthodontists’. In contrast, ‘Specialist Orthodontists’ undertake three years of extra full-time
training to gain an MOrth, which is required to
be registered as a ‘Specialist’ with the General
Dental Council. Specialist Orthodontists may
also undergo two further years of training in
treating the most difficult orthodontic cases to
become a hospital consultant.
a Specialist Orthodontist, you can be confident they will have had the
“ By choosing
training needed to ensure your child receives the best possible orthodontic care.
“
Creating the perfect smile.
When is the right time?
It’s never too late to begin orthodontic treatment but we like to meet patients at age eight or nine
so that we can plan the best time for starting treatment. This is especially important if facial
growth guidance is advised. An early diagnosis of certain problems can dramatically reduce the
amount of treatment needed and create extra space to give a perfect smile without losing teeth.
Some members of the public wrongly think that orthodontists don’t want to see patients before
all their adult teeth are through. If you have any doubts, just self-refer so that if an early phase
of treatment would be beneficial, this can start. If it is too soon, a Specialist Orthodontist will
be best placed to let you know when to schedule the next visit and you’ll have peace of mind in
the meantime.

care with the most advanced orthodontic knowledge and
experience to achieve best possible jaw alignment and
