Why I Chose Lake County to Live
I grew up in the N.W suburbs, I had a
great childhood and lots of friends, as I grew
up and finished school the area got quite
large, population growth boomed, there was
new homes being built everywhere you
looked, and the industrial sections began to
grow by leaps and bounds and with these
advancements/changes the traffic became
unbearable all 2 lane roads at the time.
One a good day It would take me 35-40
minutes to travel 12 miles…..so when it was
my turn to buy a home I of course had a
whole list of things that were a must have in
order for me to move ( I laugh now at my
high handedness) My list as I remember it
was: anywhere but where I grew up ( I still
laugh at this because it is a highly desirable
place to live) Trees - acreage, less traffic
(NO traffic is what I remember writing down
ha ha) and great schools & shopping - was a
must and of course work - career ( I would
need a new job (because I refused to commute for long) and a home I would love and
want to raise my kids in…Well first go round
- I came close, however not enough bedrooms for kids, (mind you I did not have any
yet) the schools were okay, Trees were perfect but no land - I traded one subdivision for
another but this was mine not my parents. I
finally found the perfect place, and with it
the perfect Man to build my life with and to
raise my kids …… I found all of these things
in Lake County IL.
It’s funny thinking back on these things as
I write this and remembering just what I
wanted then. You’ll notice that on my criteria list the last thing I took into consideration
was a job. Most people do not have the luxury now to pick where they’ll live because of
their jobs — some will be transferred and
then have to look for an area to live then
search for a home—so they might end up
staying in a hotel for the first three months
of their move — Other’s will look for a
home that’s close to their job. Luckily this
was the early 80’s and I was blessed with
being young, back then finding work was a
breeze—but I digress.
Lake County to me, has shopping, my
home of course, some of the best neighbors
anyone could ever have, great schools,
lakes, recreation, museums, parks and some
of the Most beautiful property in Illinois. So
if I had to do it all over again I would still pick
this area to live. Where do you live and why
