Welcome to both our new and existing
families. As I have just returned from leave
I am looking forward to catching up with
everyone and meeting all the new faces.
I am also eager to support our new
kindergarten families while they embark on
their new and exciting journey. On the
topic of new journeys; I am delighted to
announce Katie (Staff) is pregnant!
I am positive 2016 will be another year of
fun and discovery!
CHINESE NEW YEAR – 8TH
Chinese New Year is the longest and most important
celebration in the Chinese calendar. The New Year begins on
the first day of the Chinese calendar, which usually falls in
February. Originally tied to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar,
the holiday was a time to honor household and heavenly
deities as well as ancestors. It was also a time to bring family

Free Fun ExtraCurricular Activities
Running: Week 4 until Week 8
Healthy fish fingers with guacamole
Prep 10 minutes Cook 10 minutes
Ingredients
1 cup whole meal breadcrumbs
zest of one lemon
a little salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 salmon fillets (about 200g each)
canola oil spray
1 ripe avocado
1/2 cup cooked corn kernels
1/2 red capsicum, roughly chopped
1/4 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
juice of one lemon
splash olive oil
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C conventional (180°C
fan-forced) and line a biscuit tray with baking paper.
2. To make the crumb mix, combine the breadcrumbs with
the lemon zest and salt and place in a shallow bowl. Slice the
salmon fillets into ‘fingers’ and dip these first in the beaten
egg and then in the crumb mixture, turning so each side is
well coated.
Commencing week 4, children will have the
opportunity to get involved in a variety of
extra-curricular activities. Currently these
activities are available for years 1 to 6 only.
Kindergarten children will be able to
participate from Term 2.
Programs will run for 5 weeks and are free of
charge. Please make it clear to your child that
by signing the form they are committing to the
entire 5 week duration.
Keep an eye out on the sign in/out desk for
permission notes and more information.
Scheduled activities are as follows:
Monday: Cooking (yr 3 & up)
Tuesday: Cooking (yr 1 & 2)
3. Place on the prepared baking tray and once all the fish is
crumbed, lightly spray with canola oil and place in the oven
for about 10 minutes.
Wednesday: T-ball
4. Meanwhile to make the guacamole, crush the avocado
into a bowl and mix with remaining ingredients. Season to
taste.
Friday: Science

SUNSMART: Sun Safety at Funhouse
Sunscreen & Hats
Castle Hill Funhouse follows the guidance of the
Cancer Council NSW of when it is necessary to
apply sunscreen. The Cancer Council recommends
when the UV Index is above 3, a minimum 30+
sunscreen is be applied every 2 hours.
Funhouse provides Coles Everyday SPF 50+
Sunscreen Lotion for the children & staff of the
Centre. If your child has an allergy to this particular
brand, please supply an alternative with their
name clearly labelled. This sunscreen will be stored
at the Centre. If your child has an allergy and
cannot wear sunscreen, please let staff know.
Children are also required to wear their hats
outside when the UV Index is above 3. If children
do not have hats they are expected to play inside.
Only once the UV Index drops below 3 are children
permitted outside without hats.
Bins and recycling
No matter where you live your local
council provides you with a disposal
service that follows similar guidelines.
Most councils’ supply their residents
with a general waste bin and a
recycling bin as well as either a green
waste bin or an option for green
waste disposal. However, inside our
homes most of us only have one bin.
It is time to change this.
It is pretty important we all get into the habit of recycling our
paper, plastic, and glass materials. If you sat down and really
thought about how much you throw away that is recyclable, you
would probably be astounded. By having an extra bin inside just
for recycling you can pre-sort recyclables and throw out less.
Home recycling is something that adults should teach their
children, because recycling at home is a simple step in the right
direction of changing our environment for the better.

Staff News: Farewells
During January, we said goodbye and good luck to two of
our amazing staff members, Bek and Liz. Both Bek and Liz
have accepted positions at Centres closer to their homes,
with Bek working as an Educational Leader on the Central
Coast and Liz working as an Educator in the Blue
Mountains.
We wish them well in their new roles and hope they will
keep in touch. Thank you ladies for your dedication to the
Funhouse family!
Funhouse Management Meeting
Castle Hill Funhouse is a not-for-profit
organisation that requires parent volunteers
to sit on our Management Committee. The
Committee decides matters of policy and
meets once a month.
The next Management Meeting will be held
at Funhouse on Wednesday 17th February
2016, 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
Funhouse Homework Club Starts Week 2
For children in years 1-2-3-4-5 and 6
Sessions take place in the Computer Room, Monday to
Thursday 3:30-4:30pm. During this time, children will have
the opportunity to complete their written and computer
homework (20mins computer time only).
