Mission Statement
The faculty, staff, and administration of EHOVE Adult Career Center
School of Practical Nursing hold the premise that all students can learn
and that schools do make a difference. We strive to create and maintain
an atmosphere for maximum development of each student as an individual while meeting the needs of the student body as a whole. Our mission
is to provide practical nursing education enabling the person to function
as a safe practitioner within the community. We view each student as a
unique and holistic person. We uphold the highest standards of nursing
practice utilizing the nursing process and the holistic framework.
Admission Requirements
Age:
17 years of age or older
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
certificate. Recommend English, Reading, and
Math background. Any course in Science
would be beneficial.
How to Apply
1.
Call or write EHOVE School of Practical Nursing x-231 to receive
the application information packet.
2.
Schedule an Allied Health Informational Session to receive the
detailed application process.
3.
Schedule an appointment to take the pre-entrance exam.
4.
After admission requirements are met and applicant has completed the interview, the applicant will be notified of admission
decision in the spring of admission year.

Frequently work in a standing position and do frequent walking;
Lift and transfer patients up to 6 inches from a stooped position; then push or pull the weight up to 3 feet;
Lift and transfer patients from a stooped position to an upright
position to accomplish bed-to-chair and/or chair-to-bed
transfers;
Physically apply up to 10 pounds of pressure to bleeding sites,
or in performing CPR;
Respond and react immediately to auditory instructions, requests, monitor equipment, and perform auditory auscultation
without auditory impediment;
Physically perform up to an 8-hour clinical laboratory experience;
Perform close and distance visual activities involving objects,
persons, and paperwork, as well as discriminate depth and
color perception;
Discriminate between sharp/dull and hot/cold when using
hands;
Manual dexterity required for preparing and administering
medications;
Ability to read medication labels and patient records;
Perform mathematical calculation for medication preparation
and administration;
Speak English clearly enough for most patients to understand,
and understand the verbal communications of English speaking
clients;
Communicate effectively in writing, using appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and word usage;
Make quick decisions under stressful situations;
Carry out procedures that prevent the spread of infection, e.g.:
frequent hand washing, using mask and gloves, etc.
Financial Aid
Can be requested through the school. A full spectrum of Financial
Aid services are available. The school meets the standard of the
Veterans Administration for their education funding for qualified
veterans.

GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING OUR PROGRAM

surrounding area

APPLICATION PROCESS
Pre-entrance Exam: $81.00 Testing Fee (Credited toward tuition)
A pre-entrance exam is required of all applicants. The enclosed flyer gives
details of times and dates. Please call extension 295 or 231 for an
appointment to take the exam. After the exam, an appointment will be
made for you to review your scores and educational plan with the school
counselor. Required scores must be achieved to continue with the
application process.
Informational Sessions: Attendance at one of the informational sessions (no charge) is a
prerequisite to proceed with the Practical Nursing Program. These sessions
will address questions and concerns related to the Allied Health Careers
Programs. A check list of requirements will be distributed at this session.
Please call extension 280 or 231 to schedule your session.
Application: $100.00 Processing Fee – Payable to EHOVE Adult Career Center
Send the enclosed application with fee as soon as you have achieved the
required scores on the pre-entrance exam. Your application must be on file
prior to your call for an interview. Application fees are non-refundable and
are not credited toward your tuition.
School Records: Send the enclosed form “Request for Student Records” to the high
school from which you graduated, or are now attending. If you received a
GED, please bring the original scoring to the Nursing Office at EHOVE to
be copied for your file. If you have had formal education beyond high
school, send the transcript of grades and course descriptions to the EHOVE
School of Practical Nursing after you have completed all of the above
requirements.
Interview:
Call ext. 231 to schedule your interview with the Director of the EHOVE
School of Practical Nursing. All prerequisites must be accomplished prior
to your interview.
Acceptance: With all of the above requirements completed, you will be entered on the list
of students for either the part-time or the full-time class. Acceptance will
be determined by the application process. You will be notified by letter of
your acceptance into the EHOVE School of Practical Nursing.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Medical Terminology
This course is designed to develop a vocabulary of nursing-related medical terms.
Basic Science
A study of the normal structure, function, and nutrition of the human body utilizing
appropriate medical terminology.
Nursing Theory and Practice
A study of basic theories and principles of practical nursing incorporating skill
competencies and clinical experiences. Students will also have a 16 hour review
of grammar, writing and spelling as applied to the health field.
Pharmacology
A study of the nurse’s role in pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacologic principles,
math calculations, medication administration techniques, legal, ethical, and cultural
considerations related to pharmacology, and drug classifications.
Nursing Throughout the Life Span I
A study of the nursing process applied to maternal clients with an emphasis on
holistic care and life span issues such as growth and development, death and dying,
mental health/illness, and transcultural.
Nursing Throughout the Life Span II
A study of the nursing process applied to pediatric/adult/geriatric clients with an
emphasis on holistic care (A continuation of Nursing Throughout Life Span I).
Included are IV Therapy skill and lab competencies as well as clinical experience.
Nursing Throughout the Life Span III
A study of the nursing process applied to pediatric/adult/geriatric clients with an
emphasis on holistic care. (A continuation of Nursing Throughout Life Span II).
Professional Issues for LPN’s
A study of the role of the professional licensed practical nurse in the healthcare
system. Course includes a preceptorship learning experience.

TESTING
Career testing is required for most of our instructional programs. Testing must be scheduled
before class begins and may include measures of interests, abilities and work values. For
most courses, a fee of $54.00-$81.00 is due the day of testing and will be applied toward
tuition. Testing lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours. Please make sure to bring a photo ID
with you.
