NOVEMBER
AT A GLANCE
The bulk of the Club “season” has ended but do not let down your
guard. The Clubhouse has a lot more fun to offer. (Not to mention
the many wonderful days of golf Mother Nature usually gives us!)
Crab Legs, Sunday Brunch, Seafood Fiesta, Gallery on the Green
Employee/Member Craft Show, Jazz Brunch, Santa Claus Brunch,
Toys for Tots Cocktail Reception, New Year’s Eve Gala….. and
your intrepid F&B staff will be vigilant to come up with a few more.
All you have to do is check the enclosed calendar or make sure you
receive the Eagle Tracks sent by e-mail each week.
How about Dinner Murder Mystery Theatre? Could be. Karaoke?
Most assuredly. Look for a survey coming to you in the mail shortly
asking for your input on the types of activities you’d like to see added to our line-up.
In the meantime, if I were a member wondering what I might do on
any given night, I would make sure I have Eagle Tracks, the Newsletter or Member Handbook Calendars, and keep them r ight by
my side at all times. Or check online the Members’ website.

From the Golf Shop
Dear Membership,
Our spectacular season has continued into the fall with a
fiscal year rounds comparison showing a 13.9% increase in
rounds played through the halfway mark of our fiscal year.
It is great to have so many members and guests enjoying
our golf course and facilities this late into the season! We
hope this trend continues further into the off season despite
the farmers’ almanac prediction of a cold and wet winter!
The Inaugural Talon Cup was conducted at the end of last
month. Thanks to the creativity and support of CoChairmen Mike McGuiness, Mike Koppenhaver, and Joe
Crispin, The Talon Cup has positioned itself as one of the
more significant tournament offerings established for the
enjoyment of our members and their invited guests. The
Talon Cup, named after the talons of an eagle’s claw stems
from Bald Eagle Point and the creation of the Club’s current logo. This two-day men’s member-guest included 37
two-man teams and places golf and camaraderie as the focus of the tournament.
Flights were assigned names with great meaning to the
history and traditions of Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
Flight names included Bald Eagle Point (name of the land
in which the current golf course is located), 1925 (the year
RBCC was established), Barrows (honors 46 years of service provided to RBCC by the Barrows Family), Rehoboth
Bay (one of the most beautiful views in all of Delaware
and the perimeter of our property), Sixty-Four (course record held by Ben Crenshaw, Ed Brown, and Steven Harvey), Ralph’s Tree (gum tree located on the 1st fairway
with anecdotal story), and 19th Hole (one of the most picturesque par 3’s on the east coast).
Each member-guest team competed in a round robin match
play format. This format is one of the more exciting
member-guest formats as teams compete head-to-head
against each team in a given flight. With up to six teams
in a given flight, after all five matches are completed; the
teams who have accrued the most points advance to the
shootout among all flight winners. The shootout was held
on the 19th hole in which all flight winners would compete
in an alternate shot format handicapped by tee assignment.
With all participants surrounding the 19th hole green complex, the stage was set for what would become a very exciting and memorable inaugural shootout.
Congratulations to the following Flight Winners who advanced to the inaugural shootout:
Bald Eagle Point: Louis Capano III and Trippe Wayman
1925: Dr. Leo Eschbach and David Heaney
Barrows: Louis Capano and BJ Mitchell
2
Rehoboth Bay: Mike Manders and Chris Pappas
Sixty-Four: Bruce Vavala and Joe Capano
Ralph’s Tree: Armstrong Cullen and Matt Anagnostakos
19th Hole: Gil Ekdahl and David Coupe
After three pressure-filled rounds of alternate shot, Lou
Capano nearly holed out his tee shot for the Overall Honors. The ball appeared to catch a corner of the hole on
the second bounce eventually resting within seven feet of
the hole. “The shot heard round the bay,” would earn
Lou Capano and guest BJ Mitchell Overall Champion
Honors! Congratulations to our Overall Champions All
Flight Winners. Note: Flight Winners would also include
Mike McGuiness and Peter Kyte as the Overall Champions were in the Barrows Flight. Thanks again to our CoChairmen and participants; we are looking forward to the
2nd Annual Talon Cup!
The 2nd Annual Lady Blue Hen Invitational will be completed by the time this edition of our newsletter reaches
our members, but I wanted to take this opportunity to
thank the 30 plus members who will have volunteered
their time as Committee members, live scorers, and ball
spotters. Additionally, we are fortunate to have the support of five local facilities who graciously offered their
facilities to our members during the Lady Blue Hen Invitational. Please join me in thanking Kings Creek, Bear
Trap Dunes, Rookery North, Rookery South, and Cripple
Creek. Additional information and results will be included within next month’s newsletter.
The November “Golf Article of the Month” is written by
Aaron Spencer, PGA PGM Apprentice Professional. One
of Aaron’s passions includes merchandising. Aaron’s
article outlines current fall apparel items on display. We
hope that you enjoy reading each article and encourage
our members to call or stop by with any questions and/or
comments!
Please note the first starting time for the month of November is 8:30AM and the Golf Shop will open
8:00AM. As always, please be sur e to contact a member of the golf staff with your comments, questions, and/
or requests; we are happy and eager to help!
All the best,

Tennis News
The tennis courts will soon have the nets taken
down and the lines pulled up, closing the 2014 tennis season. While the season maybe almost over,
the memories of this past season will linger on.
This year has been fantastic! And there are many
people responsible and I want to thank the RBCC
Membership, the management team of the club and
all employees.
The RBCC membership has supported the tennis
program with their enthusiasm and patronage and it
is greatly appreciated. The tennis program continues to grow and evolve and in the 2015 season
there will be additions to the programming that will
enhance your tennis experience.
In 2014 the tennis courts had a
makeover. This past spring the top
dressing was redone and the
courts were regarded. This was
done to keep all of the courts in
better shape all year, and provide
better drainage. The courts received a lot of TLC from Mr.
Doback and came around. After a
few heavy rains, the decision was made to add the
drains to expedite the drainage of the courts. Better
than advertised, they have solved our drainage issues. Another addition was a heavy steel brush.
This brush is used 3-4 times a week and spreads the
top dressing more evenly throughout the entire
court. It moves the top dressing into spots that are
dug up by normal play, thus making the courts
smoother. At the end of the season, the courts were
in better shape than they were at the beginning of
the year. Thank you Mr. Doback for all of your
love and hard work on the RBCC tennis courts.
The proposed changes for 2015 will be to split up
the Club Championships into three separate days.
Ladies’ Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The Junior Program is proposed to have two
programs – one for 10-year olds and under and a
separate program for 11-year olds and above. Many
of our Juniors have participated in the program for
4+ years and it has outgrown court space. My
goal is to give every Junior the opportunity to explore tennis in an environment where they will be
comfortable.
In the Ladies’ Clinics, we will schedule morning
clinics and work in ability groups. We will do an
Advanced/Intermediate Clinic and an Intermediate/
Beginner Clinic. The goal of the Clinics will be to
build your doubles skills and work on improving
strokes. We will also add Men’s Doubles Night. All
schedules and dates are pending. Watch for the confirmed schedules as the year approaches.
Over the next few months, we are asking the Board for
funding approval for a new court roller, a storage shed,
and windscreens. The current roller was purchased by
the club 35 years ago and was used to roll the golf cart
paths prior to them being paved. Most tennis clubs replace their rollers between 10-15 years, so we are overdue. The storage shed will be used for the court
maintenance equipment and the extra equipment for
the tennis pro shop. The windscreens that are currently on the
court are dated. There are small rips
developing and the rest of the screen
is showing signs of wear. The new
windscreens will be designed to promote the club with the RBCC logo.
In October, I participated in the
Men’s 55 National Clay Court
Championships at the Landings Club in Savannah, GA.
After winning in the first round of the main draw, I
was fortunate to play the #1 seed, a great player with
worldwide experience. After playing the best match of
my life, I walked off the court with a 6-0, 6-1 loss. At
this event I went into the Consolation Round. In the
Consolation Round I got to the 4th round. During the
10-hour drive back to RBCC, I came up with 3 things
that I need to work on --- serve, backhand consistency
and closing the net to volley. I arrived in Rehoboth at
4:45 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. I was back on the court
working on my deficiencies to be better prepared for
this event next year. I want to thank all of RBCC for
your support during this tournament -- especially via
Facebook and text messages.
As 2014 season comes to a close, my thoughts are already moving forward to the 2015 season. While I
transition south for the winter, I am always available.
So feel free to contact me with your feedback, suggestions, or questions.
See you in April 2015!

Superintendent’s Corner
Fall has arrived!
And with it are a few course project and maintenance updates:
Starting October 27 aerification of tees, fairways and approaches
will take place. This will last approximately two weeks depending
on the weather. We understand that aerification can be an inconvenience for golfers, but it is the number one tool we have for obtaining high quality turfgrass. We will also be solid tining greens
with 8mm tines (very small holes). So, the disruption of the playing
surface will be minimal.
On November 17 we will be starting the green surrounds regrassing
project. Over the past two months, herbicide applications have been used to control and suppress bermudagrass.
These applications will continue on a yearly basis. Results on #2 green surround from these applications have
been positive. We will remove existing turf and sod with turf-type tall fescue. The goal of this renovation is to
improve the consistency and playability of the green complexes. It will also aid in keeping annual bluegrass out
of the greens.
In December, the collapsing bulkhead on #3 will be rebuilt.
I encourage all to come out and play the course in the great fall weather!

With the weather turning cooler,
more folks will be moving their

Employee of the Month
Gary Newlin
The RBCC Golf Shop Staff has nominated Gary Newlin
as our Employee of the Month. According to Pat Mastrian, “Gary has worked in the outside service position for
two seasons. Gary is a team player and someone who is
always available when needed. He is here with a smile
and a willingness to do anything asked of him to make
the operation better for each member experience.”
Gary has lived in Baywood Greens since his retirement in October 2012 after a
44-year career with a development company. He enjoys working at RBCC and
being able to work with what he refers to as “a great group of guys”. He also
enjoys meeting so many great people here. During his off-hours he loves thoroughbred race horses and taking care of his dog and two cats. Perhaps more
importantly, he says his “beautiful wife, son, daughter and three grandchildren
are my life and what keeps me going.” Be sure to congratulate Gary next time
you visit the golf course.

Chef Rob Reviewed By The“Rehoboth Foodie”
Rehoboth Foodie Bob Yezbek spent an evening at RBCC in last month interviewing Chef Rob and tasting several
dishes specially prepared for him. The article, published in the October 17th Cape Gazette newspaper, describes our
new executive chef as both seasoned and a prodigy who is “lifting the cuisine at RBCC to new (and delicious)
heights” with his exceptional skill and youthful energy. Please congratulate Chef Rob next time you see him!
