Get Involved &
Get Active!
As we jump full-swing into summer, take advantage of the good
weather to get out of the house and enjoy all that our community
has to offer. There is plenty to do in Coquitlam, whether you want
to volunteer, check out a community event, or enjoy our indoor and
outdoor recreational amenities. Here is a sample.
COQUITLAM 125
Coquitlam will be alive this summer as we come together to celebrate
Coquitlam 125 – our city’s 125th anniversary. Starting June 23, our
Neighbourhood Nights program will offer free family activities,
entertainment and more to neighbourhoods across Coquitlam.
Mark your calendar for July 23 and 24 to attend Kaleidoscope, a
two-day music and arts extravaganza and one of our Coquitlam 125
signature events. We’re also challenging all residents to join in the
hosting of 125 block parties this year through the 125 Block Party
Challenge. Want to help make the magic happen? There are still
dozens of volunteer opportunities to be had. For all the details, visit
coquitlam125.ca.

SUMMER CHILD & YOUTH PASS
Keep the kids busy all summer long for only $20! The Summer Child
& Youth Pass provides kids and youth up to age 18 with unlimited
access to all drop-in activities, including swimming and drop-in play
programs. It’s a great way to enjoy our community facilities and
stay active this summer for a bargain. The pass goes on sale May 11
and will be valid from June 17 to September 6. For information, visit
coquitlam.ca/summerpass.
55+ BC GAMES
Thousands of athletes, spectators, coaches and volunteers will converge
on Coquitlam for the 55+ BC Games from September 20-24, just as
summer ends. You won’t want to miss this exciting event, whether to
cheer on the athletes or to help out as a volunteer before and during
the games. For details, go to coquitlam.ca/55plusbcgames.
Check out the rest of our Program Guide for ideas on how to make the
most of our community this summer. Coquitlam—ours to celebrate!

BAD SEED: Weed Out Invasive Plants
Invasive Plants Harm the Environment
Invasive plants kill native plants and destroy
Coquitlam’s beautiful natural habitat. They spread
aggressively and destroy the habitat of fish, birds,
and other wildlife. Quite simply, they are Bad
Seeds!
We need your help—join a Bad Seed weed-pull
and learn how to stop the introduction and
spread of plants that can be harmful to people,
animals and ecosystems.
For more information on invasive plants or to volunteer visit
coquitlam.ca/BadSeed or email [email protected]
Coquitlam in Bloom
Show Your Civic Pride
Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed
to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification
of the public realm. It uses friendly competition between communities
to bring together local businesses, service clubs, residents, and civic
government to focus on enhancing their community.
Last year, Coquitlam received a “Five Bloom” award in the BC Provincial
Communities in Bloom competition and was also given a special
recognition award for excellence in the area of Heritage Conservation.
This year, we are competing nationally and hope to bring home the top
prize—five blooms and a gold rating!
Watch for fun events happening this summer.
Visit coquitlam.ca/cib for updates and notifications.
Park Spark
Bring Coquitlam Parks Alive!
Invest your time, experience or expertise in Coquitlam parks! There are
many ways to get involved and spark your connection. Join the Adopt-AProgram to adopt a trail, park or garden, donate a little library or bird box

LIVE SMART WITH URBAN WILDLIFE
Coquitlam is home to bears and other kinds of urban
wildlife. Everyone can take steps to wildlife-proof their
home and property. For example:
>
Keep garbage and food scraps out of reach and
inaccessible.
>
Ensure food scraps are put in Green Carts for weekly
pickup, and not in Garbage Carts, which are collected
bi-weekly.
>
Do not store carts outside where they can be accessed by
wildlife (unless clean and empty).
>
Only place your Garbage Cart or Green Cart at the curb
after 5:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. on collection day – not the
night before.
Failure to follow these steps may result in a fine.
