ARRIVAL IN SANDAKAN
SANDAKAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CENTRE /
SEPILOK ORANG UTAN CENTRE
Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, we will meet you and transfer you to
accommodation at Sepilok Nature Resort.
Today, we visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch a
short video documentary of the rehabilitation activities before taking a
boardwalk through the lowland rainforest to witness the feeding of the
Orang Utan at 1000hrs. We will then visit the Sun Bear Conservation
Centre before we proceed to Rainforest Discovery Centre. Take a bird
view of the centre from the canopy walk and hanging bridge before
exploring the botanical garden, home to various species of flora. Return
to Sepilok Nature Resort.

You will be pick up from Sepilok Nature Resort for one hour boat
journey to Selingan Island. Check-in into chalet and spend the day
at leisure, swimming or snorkelling. After dinner, you will be divided
into small groups while waiting for the signal from the park ranger for
the appropriate time to see the green turtle lay eggs on the beach. You
will also have the opportunity to witness the eggs being transferred to
hatchery from the nesting site and the release of the baby turtles onto
the shore. Overnight at the island chalet.
Depart to Sandakan after breakfast. Take another 21/2 hour overland
journey through the interior villages and small towns at the East Coast of
Sabah. Lunch will be served at Borneo Nature Lodge. Stop at Kampung
Sukau Jetty for a short boat transfer to Borneo Nature Lodge. In the
afternoon, we take our first wildlife excursion along the Menanggol
River in search of wildlife such as the proboscis Monkeys, Orang Utan,
Langgurs and the Borneo Pygmy Elephant. Return to Borneo Nature
Lodge for overnight.

Wake up at 0600hrs for a morning cruise up the Kinabatangan River
and to Kelenapan Ox-Bow Lake to spot more wildlife and birds. Explore
the floodplain forest through a short jungle walk with your guide before
returning to the lodge for breakfast. Proceed for another river cruise in
the afternoon for more wildlife. Overnight at Borneo Nature Lodge.
During this extension stay, you will have another morning cruise along the OxBow lake and an evening river cruise in search for more wildlife. Overnight at
Borneo Nature Lodge.

After breakfast, we will leave Borneo Nature Lodge for an overland transfer to Lahad Datu.
Visit Gomantong cave for a short trek inside the cave to witness the unique ecology of
many fauna species such as swiftlets and bats. The cave also contributes significant role to
the local economy.
After lunch, you will be transferred for approximately 11/2 hour overland journey to Tabin
Wildlife Resort. Check into an attractive timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort, which
comes complete with private balcony, air conditioner, ceiling fan and hot water shower, a
welcome luxury in the forest.
In the afternoon, visit the active Lipad mud volcano which provides a mineral salt lick for
wildlife. Trek for approximately 20 minutes through the rainforest to the elevated bare
area of the mud volcano which is frequented by wildlife and birds. Witness the contrasting
landscape of the bare mud volcano and the thick bornean rainforest surrounding it.
After dinner, enjoy a CD/slideshow presentation on Tabin’s natural wonder followed by a
night safari.

After breakfast, a drive to the core area in search for more wildlife before
trekking through the lush green rainforest known for its rich diversity of
plants and animal species to visit Lipad Waterfall. Take a dip into the
natural pool and enjoy its refreshing cold water. Alternatively explore
the surrounding vegetation or just relax. At dusk, proceed for a drive
within the reserve as well as a night walk after dinner.

Depart Tabin and return to Lahad Datu to catch the late afternoon flight
