As I grew a bit older, an appreciation for the outdoors developed and it was reflected in my art as I would strive to deliver an almost photo realistic representation of the natural wildlife and landscapes around me. In my late teens and through college I took a great interest in the Surrealists of the 20th century. Surrealism became a great format to indulge in the fantasy ideas going on in my head, and I used my drawing skills to portray those ideas in the real world. I now call my work “fantasy realism”. When I first get an idea it starts out as doodles and sketches in my sketch pad. It then moves to more detailed and elaborate drawings until I feel it’s ready to move on to the canvas. I use oil paints on canvas and wood and employ a technique called glazing to complete the paintings. - Andy Van Schyndle Visit Andy in Booth T-31!
