INTRODUCTION: STREET DREAMS
Masta One:
Masta One:
Kid from street,
Kid from war torn,
I am trying different,
Leave the old life,
Now getting new life,
Mix with new breed,
Plan for new seeds,
Ready proceed and spread disease,
Born to hip hop raise in hip hop,
My dope, dope, dope,
Make your heart stop,
Just like heart attract, call it rap attract.
My name is Masta One, community represent,
I stand for unity, cultural diversity,
Street Dream crew, street rule,
This is what I do,
Marriage to noise,
Music is my wife,
And don’t ask me why,
My rhyme, so bright, white, like fried rice,
I work for Street Dreams man,
What sweet dreams,
I just wanna say everyone,
Welcome to Street Dreams.
Street Dreams St Marys
Street Dreams St Marys is a free creative program for young
people living in the Penrith area developed with local musician
Abaker Malek - rapper (Masta One) in partnership with Aweil
Association of NSW.
The program was designed to engage young people in free
creative workshops organised fortnightly at St Marys Corner
Community and Cultural Precinct from January to March
2012.
Street Dreams St Marys offered young people great opportunity
to learn first steps in music industry: creating lyrics and rhymes,
recording vocals and creating music material which is presented
on this CD.
Initial support for the project was provided by Penrith City
Council's Community Assistance Program in 2011.
St Marys Corner provided a space for Street Dreams St Marys
to develop through a combination of public presentations,
workshops and informal gatherings of young people.
St Marys
St Marys, Kingswood, Penrith, yeah…..
Nancy: Verse 1
St Marys to Kingswood,
Take it back to Mount Druitt,
A town where it’s no good,
People, always smoking, drinking, fighting,
Always feeling no good, representing my hood,
I repeat my hood,
Yeah that’s my logo,
OK without a pause without a lie,
Every night people cry,
Always just wanna die,
I’m sick of you’ll standbyers,
I’m not here to waste your time,
Take a minute take the time,
Why you are here paralysed,
Who got you are hypnotized,
Police don’t do much,
Violence getting too much.
Bizzle: Verse 2
ROCK with DA beat,
Now SHAKE yourself a bit,
Now kick back relax now,
I reaper my hood now love the way I’m living,
Respect is in my hood now,
No dough, we play hard, shout out to my boyz,
Now 2760 homie that the code here,
Dam proud of being a saint since the day I
moved here....
Hope i made myself clear.
Lil, homie don’t cry now,
It’s time to spit some rhymes out,
No need for a crime a minute buys a hate,
But you don’t need to do that time now...halla!
Klong: Verse 3
Klong Athum is ma name,
And everyone’s in the game,
Rocking dancing in the streets,
Knocking over all the seats,
St Marys here, I am where we are,
Once again ma hometown,
Now I’m here, ready to showdown,
And be who I claim,
Ma dreams to finish high school, uni, get a job,
Finish ma studies,
And go out with all ma buddies,
Become a doctor and serve in South Sydan.
Peter: Verse 4
Yo, what’s good?
St Mary’s is the hood,
I look fly in the hood,
Think you’re cool but looking like a fool,
I look good, came up for school,
Yeah let’s do it again,
Penrith is the game,
Yeah I live and die,
But lie, street dream is the life,
Respect and laugh,
I wonder, I’m so fly,
Boy, my words rhyme,
Just need some time…

President of the Aweil Community Association in NSW
Since its registration in 2004, the Aweil Community Association in NSW has organised
various activities to support our community. These include welfare and language support,
child care and protection and a range of cultural activities. We represent forty seven
families who live in the suburbs of St Marys, St Clare and Kingswood.
Street Dreams St Marys was a truly exciting creative program for Sudanese young
people. The project helped them socialise in a creative way which resulted in creating
this wonderful music. This will certainly help this part of our community to express their
culture and integrate it into our society.
We would like to express our appreciation to Penrith City Council for their generous
support in making this project happen and we look forward to developing similar
creative activities in the future.
What’s Cool?
Boys: Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo
Girls: Yeah
Boys: What’s cool?
Girls: None
Nancy: I‘m cool, I‘m not a fool,
I got nothing on my mind,
I be sitting on the side, drinking redbull,
This is how I do it, life as I knew it,
I‘m high on sky, I got nothing onto it,
I live in Mount Druitt, represent it,
Or blow ma,
I’m so proud I’ll be ridding like a kite,
That flies on sky, high on sky, high on sky, high
On the sky, high
Aoukiey: Yo, Yo, Whats cool?, None,

Rapping I won,
I got a hood fun, I just came run,
I got a lot of fan

Who said I was okay,
I got the swag, got the look,

Bol Ker a.k.a. Bizzle, 15
My dream is to inspire people through my lyrics.
I came to Australia five years ago straight up from the South. Music is my greatest passion because
personally, I find that life is like a dance – it can lead young people somewhere. I am inspired by a lot of
musicians lyrics. I sometimes feel the same and then I write my own songs and tell my personal stories.
Having a smile is a greatest gift and we should smile even when our dreams don’t come true.
I Don’t Know What to Do
I don’t know what to do,
I don’t know what to do,
I’m confused…
When street dreams rescue me, I am shine.
Am shine, I’m shine, I’m a star,
I got get it right,
I got get it right,
It’s my life…
Push and trim was not my dream,
But I got to do it no need to scream,
Saviour of the war getting big in a hood.
Ready heard OK story of my life,
Just make me famous and at the same time,
Man I feel shameless.
Setting everyday and talk to people.
Telling everything that I been through,
And at the same time, man,
They are willing to listen.
I saw my friends getting killed in padded spray,
With AK Automatic,
So I pray to the lord,
‘Coz they never made it.
I rap for the peace of revolution,
No more collision and dilution,
Lets has a vision, lets have a mission.
Lets work, strength to better Ambiton,
Lets enjoy the life,
Your life is the gave and you need to keep.
I don’t know what to do,
I don’t know what to do,
I’m confused…
When street dreams rescue me, I am shine.
Awadia Kuol, 16
Street Dreams St Marys? I enjoy every part of it!
I spend half of my day listening to music and playing around with lyrics. Most of
the remixes I make I record on a little laptop at home. Thanks Street Dreams St
Marys for the opportunity. I enjoy every part of it.
Alhad Manyang, 13
I hope that Street Dreams St Marys will become a famous thing and that all
Sudanese young people will join us.
I live every day of my life with music. I hope that people who can’t find music in
them can find it soon.
Abuk Athum, 12
Proud to sing for my community.
I live in a large family of nine. Every time I have a chance I sing and perform in front
of my family. Music and singing is not just a talent for me – it is a career. Street
Dreams St Marys is one of the best opportunities that came my way – I am very
proud to do the singing for my community. I would like to say to all children there
who are just sitting and watching TV – If you get an opportunity like this you should
always take it.
John Aro Aro Gar, 20
To me music is a real thing, something that can heal your soul.
I am twenty years old, Sudanese by birth and Australian by choice. This is the
first time for me to get involved in this kind of creative project, even though I have
some background in music. I have practiced some music in school but the real
deal for me is my attachment to church singing.
Aouk Michael, 16
Love music, love dancing, love fashion...
I started with music and dancing when I was very young. I specialise in African
dancing which I learned from my cousins in Africa. I like hanging around with my
mates (it is my hobby). I am also a party animal. I want to be a fashion designer
after my studies and would like to own my own shop.
Amanuel Ayai, 13
Making music is my favourite thing.
I came to Street Dreams St Marys to create music with Masta One and all other
young people. I like both music and soccer but I would always put music first.
Deng Athum, 10
Enjoying the Street Dreams!
I live with my five brothers and sisters in St Marys. It is a nice and quiet place to
live. I started singing when I was two. I enjoy being part of Street Dreams. My
dream is to become a rapper when I get old. My favourite song is Young, Wild
and Free.
Klong Athum, 13
I love the idea of Street Dreams St Marys. When I tell my friends about it they
say how lucky I am.
I started to get into music when I was very young child. I was singing songs from
my favourite television shows – Wiggles and Teletubbies. My favourite artists now
are One Direction and Timomatic. Music is like my life, everything I do is followed
by the music, without it how boring the world would be?

The joy of expressing yourself through your own art
I have been recording music in my improvised studio in Minchinbury since 2005.
I started recording with Abaker at a young age and through trial and error we
learned various effects and managed to refine the sound to a professional quality
of production.
My recording experience with Street Dreams St Marys was fantastic, especially
interacting with young people. I got the opportunity to pass on some information
about sound recording and teach them a few tips on performing. I hope this project
helps young people get into music industry just like I did, so they realise they joy of
being able to express themselves through their own art.
Abaker Malek, masta one, 30
Rewarding your community
I love everything about music and it is the greatest passion in my life. Street
Dreams St Marys came from the idea of rewarding young Sudanese people
who have been supporting my music career from the very beginning. Doing
music performances, touring shows and workshops are a great way to express
yourself, expose your culture and support your community. I would like to thank
all the young people for their creativity, hard work and energy in making Street
Dreams St Marys so successful.
