2005 August - The Tuddenham Tattler
Issue No 122
Your Tattler is
again selling
calendars with new
photos of the village
on each month. As in
previous years we
can offer you a
personal copy with
one month’s photo
being your house or
family. Please contact
the Editor on 785588
as soon as possible if
you want to buy one
so your photos can
be taken in the
summer sun.
August 2005
Your editorial team have been out taking photos for
the 2006 calendar….
If you are about to leave for your
holidays please make your house and
garden secure and tell neighbours you
are away, leaving a contact number.
The police have supported the idea
of “I.C.E.” - that is having an “In Case of
Emergency” contact number (such as
your spouse, parent) on your mobile
under the name ICE. Good idea?
Tuddenham Chapel welcome John
and Violet Banks in September to take
Services and Sunday School.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Tuddenham Chapel
28th August
This is the last
service at Tuddenham Chapel to be
taken by Tony French and the last
time Elaine will be taking Sunday
School. The Tattler wishes them
both many happy, and healthy,
years of retirement in their new
home and thanks them for all their
many contributions to our village.
All residents are most welcome
to attend services at Chapel on
Sunday mornings at 11.00 am.
CALENDAR
The Tattler is now
taking orders for the
2006 calendar. The
project
will
again
donate £1 from each
sale to the Village Hall
Extension Fund and the
price will remain £7 per calendar.
At no extra cost you can have one
photo of your choice (perhaps your
house or family) as one of the months
in your personal calendar. Last year
some calendars had several changes.
These make ideal Christmas gifts for
distant friends and relatives.

Exercise Class
After a summer break, our
teacher, Jackie Flewitt, has
agreed to start the classes again
in September. The first will be on
Wednesday September 7th.
Jackie will let me know if she
would like an earlier starting time,
(it used to be 2.45 pm), depending
on whether she has an earlier
class on Wednesday afternoons.
Of course I will let all
our "old" clients know.
I suggest we start by
charging £3.50, and
will reduce if possible,
depending on numbers. All are
welcome so do join us and try the
session out!

Be Warned!
This strange photo is of a
wasps’ nest, taken in the
meadow of Manor Farm. Not
any old wasp this, but one of
the larger species that have
come over from the Continent
recently. These insects like to
nest in shrubs and bushes and
are much more likely to sting
as well as being 50% bigger
than our native wasp. Janet
Welham has had this nest
dealt with by Pest Control but if you come across a colony you are advised to
call pest control and use antihistamines should you get stung.
Recycling Dates in
Tuddenham
The next few “recycling days” are
24th August, 7th and 21st of
September. There is a paper
bank in the Fountain car
park. Clothes and shoe bins
are available in Sainsburys’
car park, Hadleigh Road. Happy Hols!
Yoga Class
If you are interested in taking
part in a yoga group in
Tuddenham please contact the
editor on 785588. Several
residents have already expressed
interest but we would
need quite a few
more to make the
class viable.

Hi there, my name is Caroline Rush and I live in The High Street with my partner.
I am writing to you to see if you could
highlight the issue in the next Tattler issue of
the speed cars go through the village. Last
week as I was coming out of my door, Diane's
cat from number 9 ran out into the road and
was knocked down by a blue people carrier of
some sort. It didn't stop or even slow down, I
just saw the brake lights flash on for a second
and it just sped off. As a result of the injuries
from this the cat died almost instantly.
As our part of the road has parked cars
most of the time its really a single lane road
and cars go up and down it far too quickly as
they do with the rest of the village. I heard from the chapel that one of the pub cats was
also knocked down and killed the previous week.
People that I have spoken to have also said how quickly cars go by the cottages
and I wonder there is something we could do to try and highlight this to the council or
highways association. I don't really know where to start but maybe if something was
put into The Tattler we could get together and try.
If you have any ideas please contact The Tattler.
I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
Caroline Rush

Hi! It seems an age since The Editor, bless her little cotton socks, was shouting for a
report but there it was - a message on 1571 this week! Trust everyone is enjoying our
summer weather and school holidays, and, no doubt, thinking both will be over far too
soon. Grass and hedges manage to continue growing and require attention, but the
occasional shower of rain at least keeps it all green.
We expect the organ back any day now. The repairer’s last report of return was
obviously slightly out. It will be lovely to have it back in place. There are no other major
repairs in hand at present - did I hear a Hallelujah from our treasurer?!
The next big event will be the Ordination of Michael Morton into the Priesthood on
the evening of 24th September followed by Alan Forsdike’s Ordination as Deacon on the
morning of 25th - both at the Cathedral in Bury St. Edmunds. A coach has been arranged
for each event. Alan will conduct the service at Witnesham on the evening of the 25th. 1st
and 2nd of October there will be a Flower Festival in the Church and there will be no
Harvest Festival lunch this year since the ladies are organising refreshments to be served
in the churchyard.
It is noted that many grave tenders still half bury glass jars or vases in the soil
despite requests not to do so. These will continue to be removed in the interests of the
safety of our grass cutter.
Our best
wishes to Sue
Punton. We look
forward to seeing
you back at the
exercise class
soon.
And also to Elaine Lay who
is poorly. We are thinking of you.
And to all
husbands who
care for their
ladies with love!!!
Services continue at 09.30 hours each Sunday
morning with an 0800 hours service of Holy
Communion on the fourth Sunday of each Month
and Time for God at 1900 hours on the second
Sunday.
The Rev. Sam Cowley continues
his village visits and should you wish
him to call contact the Rectory direct
or Monica (785272) or Jim (785296).
Floodlighting sponsorship is available at the
bargain rate of £5 per weekend - this can be
arranged by contacting the writer on 785296 or by
calling in at “Camforth”.
Thank you for your continued support of your
Church.
God Bless You and Yours.
