MEMORIAL DAY 2014
Elmhurst Cemetery
HISTORY
The German Lutheran Cemetery was
established in 1858 by Trinity Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Saint Paul. In 1872
the current location on Dale Street was
purchased and in 1920 was renamed to
Elmhurst Cemetery to reflect the
increased ethnic inclusion. The cemetery
remained much as it was almost 100
years ago.
Trinity created Saint John’s German
Evangelical Lutheran Church as a
“daughter congregations” in 1871,
followed by Emanuel Evangelical
Lutheran Church in 1873. Just ten years
ago, Trinity and Emanuel merged to
become Crown of Life Evangelical
Lutheran Church.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Francis J. Bellamy (1855-1931)
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the
United States of America and to the
Republic for which it stands, one
Nation under God, indivisible, with
liberty and justice for all.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Irving Berlin (1888-1989)
God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with the light from
above.
From the mountains to the prairies, to
the oceans white with foam,
God bless America, my home sweet
home.
“Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor
engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance
be as lasting as the land they honored.” ~ Daniel Webster
