From the Desk of the General Manager
Dear Member,
We celebrated our 19th Anniversary Party on Sunday,
July 1, after unexpected power outages from the
storms that occurred before the scheduled party date
of Saturday, June 30. Despite the challenges, the
event was a success with attendance levels exceeding
one thousand guests.
The
weather was hot but the Club
took every precaution to
ensure everyone had a safe
and good time at the event.
The fireworks, food, children ‘s
activities
and
DJ
were
awesome. If you missed the
event make plans to attend
next year when we celebrate Joseph Fulco, CCM, CCE
General Manager
our 20 year anniversary!
The Club’s new Indoor Instructional Facility is
scheduled to open this month. The exact date and
time are still being tweaked; I will update everyone as
soon as I have the exact information. This is an
outstanding venue that will be open year-round. We
will be sending operating policies and procedures later
this month. If you have not seen the new facility up
by the Driving Range, please take a peak. We will be
offering tours of the facility in the next few weeks.
The Club’s Crocs Swim Team is having a great season
as Karen Heinz, Swim Team Coach and Lisa Noss, Swim
Team Committee Chair, are doing all the right things.
The program is very well subscribed, the swim meets
have been packed and the children involved in the
program, are receiving top-notch professional
instruction. The Crocs are very busy in July with meets
against Rolling Road Golf Club, Argyle Country Club
and Norbeck Country Club. They will also be hosting
Movie Night at the Pool featuring ‘Journey 2’ on
Friday, July 13 for all Members, and they will
participate in their End-of-Season Party on Saturday,
July 28 to celebrate another great season! Go Crocs!
July 2012
The Pool complex continues to be very busy as
Members try to remain cool in the extreme
temperatures that we have been experiencing, by
enjoying the Pool, Pool Café, and the wide variety of
social events being offered. This month we have new
events such as ‘Mom’s Margarita Mondays in July’
featuring $4 margaritas all day each Monday, and an
informal wine tasting event scheduled for Friday, July
20.
As a general reminder, please remove towels from the
pool furniture after you are done using them. Many
times towels are left on lounge chairs and tables after
Members leave the pool. This greatly reduces the
furniture options for the Members who are still at the
pool and think the furniture is in use. If you plan to
reserve an area while you are at the pool, please place
a pool bag or clothing on the furniture. We have
instructed the pool staff to remove towels left on
furniture unattended. Hopefully everyone will pitch in
and help so all Members and Guests can enjoy their
time at the pool. Lastly, remember to leave the pool
towels in the bins we have set up at the pool. If you
discover towels at home, please return them. You
would be amazed how many pool towels wander
away in the course of the summer season.
The Club’s Employee Appreciation Party will once
again take place on Monday, August 13th. For those
Members not familiar with the event, the Club hosts
an afternoon and evening party for the staff. Club
Member, Tim Smith, will again Chair the event. We
need volunteers to help with the event. Those
Members with questions about this party, or who are
interested in helping with it, should email Tim Smith
directly at [email protected] , or contact me.
The employees of Cattail Creek look forward to this
event each year and it is a great thank you for their
hard work.
Enjoy the month of July!
Sincerely,

Dear Member,
It is hard to believe it is July and we are in the middle of summer. June was a great month and I
would like to thank all of the participants who came
out and played in our events. Congratulations to
Phil Down and Richard Ham on winning the 2012
Gentlemen’s Invitational. The playoff format proved
to be no match for them as they shot 1 under and
only needed an extra hole to take the crown.
With the golf season in full stride, I would like to
take a moment to remind Members about our weekend guest policy. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, Member-only play is observed and guests are
not permitted prior to 11:00 a.m. All of us on the
Golf Professional Staff thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for supporting
the Golf Shop. As with all purchases, we are happy
to gift wrap all of your items. Please be reminded
that with all special orders, a shipping fee will be
applied.
The format of “Play With The Pro” is best

divisions) and each group must include
one golf professional. The entry fee is
$10 per Member and payouts will be
awarded for low front, back, and total.

“Gentlemen’s Invitational Recap”
After three days of intense heat, five matches within each flight, a tournament playoff, and a sudden death
playoff hole, Phil Down and Richard Ham claimed the title of champions at this year’s Gentlemen’s Invitational.
Competition within each flight was very close, with the final match deciding who would make it into the playoff.
This year’s Invitational featured a new playoff: three holes with three different formats. Hole #16 was a Better Ball
score hole while #18 was played under Modified Chapman. The final hole was played from the 17th tee box into
the practice green behind the Golf Shop. This new format created a lot of drama in determining the winners of
the event. Thanks to all who participated in this year’s event and congratulations to all of the winners!

Tip of the Month
Tennis Misinformation
Tim Halter
Head Teaching Professional
I have identified three significant
sources of misinformation. All three
are often based on a player's need to
bolster his fragile self-confidence by
getting a quick fix or a feel-good solution without having to accept his negatives, mistakes and failures. This is
Tennis
July 2012
why many players have trouble forgetting and moving on from their mistakes in match play.
PSEUDO-TECHNIQUE This is a problem I have gone over many times. I
constantly hear players tormenting
themselves because they did not do
this or that technique in match play.
I'm not talking about an occasional,
objective tip to help you along. What
I'm talking about is the overdone, allconsuming, subjective thought process which concludes that techniques
will save the day. I never hear players
say, "I need more repetition training
to eliminate these problems!" In
match play, what you have is what
you must work with! Accept that fact,
and your burden shifts to the inner
strength of mental attitude.
PSEUDO-SUCCESS
Another subtle
origin of misinformation is your peers.
In tennis there is a generally accepted
theory: If players win they have done
something right, and if players lose
they have done something wrong. If
he then starts giving advice and claiming he knows the best way to do
something, everyone thinks, "He's
winning, so that must be right!" I can
assure you that the advice given is
wrong 70% of the time. I am not saying to never listen to advice. Just do
not automatically think it is right.
coach and parents? If the whole losing event was not made into an ordeal, in time the child would forget it
and move on to the next tournament.
Instead, the message sent to the child
is that losing is bad and here are four
hundred and eighty-five things you
have done wrong. Do these right and
you’ll win. Give them a word of encouragement and move forward, onto
more training and a new tournament.
In closing, I realize that most players
believe the concept that to improve
they must correct their failures and
mistakes. That is why the misinformation I have just covered is appealing to so many people. In true Tennis
Warrior fashion, all the false concepts
are cast aside as you forge ahead in
the reality of mental toughness.
