Why do gloves come
in different colours?
Pura Comfort blue – powder-free
The basic colour of disposable gloves was originally off-white - the colour
of the base material rubber. With the development of new processes and
materials, for example, nitrile, the colour palette could be extended and
now incorporates colours ranging from pure white to green, black, pink and blue.
The latter is of particular importance for the food industry, as blue is generally not a colour found
in any food, enabling lost gloves to be found quickly.

A clear advantage of pre-powdered gloves is that they
are easy to put on, even with wet hands. Furthermore,
they enable hands to stay dry, even when wearing them
for longer periods of time. However, the powder also has
a disadvantage: the particles can become transporters of
latex proteins, which can then seep into the skin, causing
allergic reactions in some wearers of the gloves. Therefore,
the powder, almost essential for the manufacture of gloves,
is not used for some models.

Disposable gloves made from polyvinyl chloride, PVC
for short, have completely different characteristics to
latex. PVC, or vinyl as it is commonly known, is
produced relatively independently from raw materials which partly accounts for the low cost. Furthermore,
in contrast to latex, it is not derived from a hard
material. With latex gloves, the hard material used to
manufacture them first needs to be made malleable in
order to be able to manufacture elastic gloves from it.
The stretch versions are now particularly good and can
absolutely compete with latex and nitrile gloves in
terms of elasticity.
