Missy Crutchfield is the Administrator of the Department of Education

Missy Crutchfield joined Mayor Ron Littlefield’s Cabinet as Administrator for the
Department of Education, Arts & Culture (EAC) on July 1, 2005. A Chattanooga native, she
has served in positions of leadership in education and the media. Prior to heading EAC,
Ms. Crutchfield was Assistant to the Chancellor at the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga. She has served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at
Chattanooga State Technical Community College. In both positions she was liaison
between the institution and the community, seeking out and creating opportunities in the
print and electronic media to strengthen the positions of both schools in the greater
Chattanooga area.
Ms. Crutchfield has also worked as a television producer, reporter and anchor, as well as a
radio producer and anchor. In the mid-1990s she served as Executive Director for
Chattanooga Venture, a nonprofit organization promoting grassroots civic involvement in
Chattanooga’s revitalization. She has enjoyed a long relationship with the arts, studying
and performing in Los Angeles and New York, as well as performing onstage in local
productions.
Missy Crutchfield is widely recognized for her work to improve the quality of life in
Chattanooga. She has served, or currently serves, on the boards of Allied Arts of Greater
Chattanooga, Blue Monarch, CONTACT “Helpline” of Chattanooga, Stop the Madness
(gang control and prevention), Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block, the Domestic Violence
Coalition, and Chattanooga CARES (AIDS Resource Center). She has served on the
Commerce and Public Policy Committees for the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, on
the Tennessee Film, Music and Entertainment Commission, and on the Advisory Board of
the Warner Park Zoo. She is the founder of Remember Your Dream, an arts incubator
program that reaches out to youth at risk.
Missy is the proud mother of James Ward Crutchfield Corn, a student at the Chattanooga
School for Arts and Sciences, who shares her artistic bent. Missy enjoys public service and
believes the arts can be a powerful force for social good.
