At the invitation of Bishop Bambera, our parish is
participating in ARISE Together in Christ, a process of
spiritual renewal. All parishioners are welcome to
join. ARISE might be just what your spirit needs for
Lent. Give it a try
Season II of ARISE Together in Christ will take place
this Lent. We encourage all parishioners to sign up
for this season and be part of the small faith sharing
communities that are forming here at St Peter’s Parish. Even if you did not participate during the first
season of ARISE last October, we invite you to participate during this Lenten season. Come and join us
as we together “Change Our Hearts” and hence
ARISE Together in Christ.
There will be six faith sharing sessions that invite us
to “Change Our Hearts”. The first session reflects on
the central call of Ash Wednesday to conversion,
both as turning away from and as turning toward.
Over the next 5 weeks we will explore the meaning
of lifelong conversion via the great symbolic themes
of the Lenten liturgy: being transfigured; our thirst
for God; living as children of the light; changing out
hearts of stone to hearts of flesh. Our concluding session leads us into Holy Week.
You may sign up for a group on this weekend of
January 30/31 or February 6/7 or call Deacon Ed
Shoener at the Parish office at 570-344-7231.
There are brochures at all of the entrances to the
Church – please take one to learn more about
ARISE Together in Christ
ARISE groups will begin the week of February 8 and
finish the week of March 14. Only 90 minutes a week
for 6 weeks can change your life.
ARISE Together in Christ
Are there times when your faith is in doubt
And you’re not sure what life’s all about
It might help to share
With people who care
So let’s meet in small groups and find out.

Extraordinary Jubilee
Year of Mercy
Glad tidings. Good News! Last Sunday and this
one, too, Jesus declares: “Today this Scripture
passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” In Luke’s
Gospel, Jesus’ first compassionate act is making
wine for the Cana wedding feast (two Sundays
ago). His first public words focus on care for the poor, the
captive, the blind, and the oppressed (last Sunday). Gracious
words! Amazing words (this Sunday)! Luke, the Gospel of
mercy, is our guide in this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
 What Good News do I need to hear?
 What Good News can I proclaim?
 What can I do to help make it come true?

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has designated Thursday,
February 11, 2016 as the 24th World Day of the
Sick. Pope Francis addresses those who are challenged by
illness, those who care for them and all of us who are
called by our faith to offer prayers and compassion. For
our diocesan observance of this important day, Bishop
Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton, will celebrate a
Mass for the Sick at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, February
11, 2016, in the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Scranton. During
the Mass there will be a communal celebration of the
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for anyone
acutely or chronically ill, anyone suffering a debilitating
condition, anyone facing surgery, the elderly, and all who
might be a candidate for this sacrament.
CTV will
broadcast the Mass live.

Continue to pour out on us your Holy Spirit,
that we might never tire of turning with trust
to the gaze of him whom we have pierced,
your Son made man,
the shining face of your endless mercy,
the safe refuse
for all of us sinners in need of pardon and peace,
of the truth that frees and saves.
He is the Door,
through which we come to you,
the inexhaustible source of consolation for all,
beauty that never sets,
the perfect joy of life without end.
May the Immaculate Virgin intercede for us,
the first and splendid fruit of the Paschal victory,
the luminous dawn of the new heavens and new earth,
the happy harbor of our earthly pilgrimage.
To you, Holy Father,
to your Son, our Redeemer,
to the Holy Spirit, the Comforter,
be all honor and glory
forever and ever.
Amen.
