About The Vintage Mustang Owners Association
The Vintage Mustang Owners Association (VMOA) was founded in
August, 1977 to provide a focal point for Mustang owners who wished
to further their enjoyment of ownership. The club was originally
dedicated to the restoration and preservation of only the 1965 and
1966 Mustangs, but now welcomes all Mustangs up to and including
the current model year of production. Your interest in Mustangs is the
most important thing, not the condition of your car or the fact that you
may not even own a Mustang yet. Club members keep current on the
latest Mustang information and participate in numerous fun events all
year.
The Pony Express
The Pony Express is the official publication of the Vintage Mustang
Owners Association. It is published for the exclusive use of its members. Please send information and articles to:
[email protected] Information and articles to appear in the
Pony Express must be received by the 22nd of the month in order to
be in the next newsletter. Articles: Members are encouraged to submit
articles for inclusion in the newsletter. Tell us how you found your car
or it found you! Send in Tech Articles or Tips and Tricks that make life
easier for you and your car. Ads: Want ads and For Sale ads can be
submitted at the monthly meeting or by writing to the editor. Free for
members! Others at Editor’s discretion.
You may order your VMOA name badges for $7.00 , or $10.00 for
the New Magentic Style at the monthly meeting or by contacting
our Vice President and membership chairperson,
at [email protected]
Did you know... ? When you wear your badge to the meeting, you
automatically get one FREE Raffle ticket when you go see Mike
Riccardi or Louise Gibino at the raffle table. When we attend
mustang events it helps if you wear your badge so others can
know who is from VMOA. It also helps the new people in our club
to get to know the names and faces.

From The Presidents Desk
Presidents Letter January 2010
Well now that 2009 is finally gone, I for one am
happy to see it go. Business and the economy has been
one of the worst I have seen in a long time. But I am
looking forward to a brighter future. I see this club
getting involved in more events and activities.
With the Executive Board and Board of Directors that
has been elected for 2010 I see this club having good
guidance down the road. I would like to thank out
going Board Members, Neal Hasheider, and Jeremy
Bligh for their time and dedication to this club, all
there help is appreciated, Thank you. And I would like
to welcome two new Board Members, Sally O’Toole
and Rod Davison, I look forward to working with both
of you.
The New Year will also throw this club some
challenging events for us to tackle. We have been
invited to have some club member’s cars displayed at
Tiffany Ford in Hollister, Ca. for their 100th Anniversary. Ford will be helping Tiffany Ford celebrate this
event. We will also be having a tech session in their
service center. More info about this event, the closer
we get to March.
We also have three new Car show Chairman,
Myron Moreno, Rick Pickering and Craig Bauer. I am
looking forward to working with these three gentlemen. I see another great year for OUR car show. This
will be our 32nd Annual show. I would also like to
thank Neal Hasheider and Tom Hasesberg without
these two Gentlemen our Car show would not be were
it is today, a successful event.
This club will also be doing its part in the GREEN
department in 2010. We are trying to change over to
the Electronic age. Which means that all communications and print media will be emailed. This saves us
money and trees. We are still printing some 50 to 60
issues of the Pony Express. And we only have 75 or
more Members. So we need to break our habit of
having a printed copy in our hands, this will save a lot
of trees and our Money. The best thing about having
the newsletter emailed is all the photos are in Digital
color. So think about converting over to electronic
Newsletter for 2010.
I would also like to remind everyone that January is time to
Renew your Membership. You can do everything on line
now. At our Club web site you can download an application
for membership so you can snail mail your check to Walt, or
you can use Pay Pal that only takes about 3 Minutes to do.
And it’s a very secure process.
There will NOT be a January General meeting because it
falls on the 1st so we will have a small meeting at the installation dinner which in on the 16th.
Happy New Year
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED
STEVE CHAPMAN, PRESIDENT VMOA
From The Editors Desk

Featured Car of the Month
Collier & Laurie Granberry’s 1969 Mustang Grande
Happy New Year to all of our club members and Mustang enthusiast! The way this story goes, back in August 2009
I’m driving out in the country in Morgan Hill, navigating my way to a few Saturday morning estate sales. As I am
heading south on Hill Road, I stumbled across an old Mustang on a 5-acre ranch. The red paint caught my eye right
away. So I made a u-turn for a better look, and parked on a side road. I walked down the long driveway to introduce
myself to the owner, and inquire if the car was even for sale. It had appeared to have been parked outside, on their
property for many years. It looked tired and in need of some TLC.
As I approached the main house at the end of the driveway, I ran into the owner Clyde Cummings (retired), sitting
in a lawn chair with a glass of ice tea on a rather hot day on his front porch. I introduced myself, and as we got to
talking over the next hour, I found out that this was his wife Ethel’s car. Over the last 10 years, the car has just been
sitting out in the field. Years ago Ethel had bought a new mustang to replace her 1969 Pony. Clyde and Ethel.......
Featured Car of the Month
......... have been approached by many people making cash offers to buy the car outright. But they always said no to
everyone who approached them. It was just too hard to let it go. I made it known that for the right price, I wanted to
buy and restore the car to its original splendor. Clyde said it was up to his wife.
So we both walked over to the car for a closer inspection. It appeared that it had become a shrine to all of the
squirrels and gofers in the area. As we opened the hood to check our the engine, the plug wires had been eaten away
and there appeared to be hay everywhere within the engine bay. A true barn find. Amazingly enough, when we opened
the driver door, I was floored to discover that the original interior was very well preserved. The data plate, still intact in
the door, helped fill in some of the blanks. The DSO was 41 (Chicago). The car had blue and gold plates, so it must
have been in California since at least the mid 70s. The engine was a 302 2bl with a C-4 transmission. Also it had air
conditioning. The Grande also has the upgraded interior along with a wood grain dash and deluxe steering wheel.
Ethel bought the car in 1977 when they used to live in the city, from a San Francisco Policeman. He had purchased
it from a bankers wife, who most likely were the original owners that drove the car out from the Chicago area.
Before buying the car, my biggest fear was not knowing if it would even start and drive. Anyway, as I was just
about to leave their house, Ethel returned home from shopping and I was able to attempt to persuade her to think about
selling me her baby. She was very nice that day, but I could tell she was in no hurry to sell.
To make a long story short, I did buy the 1969 Mustang and it runs great. I think the biggest plus in this transaction
is that the car has only 86,000 original miles on it. It will take some time for a total restoration, but never the less, a lot
of fun to drive.
A true survivor.
