“I’m In PAIN”
Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor
of chiropractic can help my problem?”
We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and
examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete
consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary,
(procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00.
We will make this special program available through March. The only exception
to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents)
in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

IT IS ILLEGAL TO DUMP IN TEXAS
WHY SCOOP THE POOP?
Texas Health and Safety Code Section 365.012 and Texas
Water Code Section 7 states it is a criminal offense to illegally
to dump waste in Texas. Depending upon the offense the
person(s) can face penalties up to $100,000 and or up to 5
years in the state jail.
TRASH COLLECTION
Too many homeowners and lawn crews aren’t aware of
the difference between storm drains and sewers. Sewers
carry sewage “black water” that comes from toilets and
other household drains. It is sent, via underground pipes,
to treatment plants. Typically, we don’t see these pipes or
openings.
Regular trash pick-up days are Wednesday and Saturday.
Heavy trash pick-up is also available to residents on
Wednesday or Saturday, but only one of these days per
household per week. Recycle day is every Saturday.
Storm drains lead to a separate pipe system. Openings are
visible from the street. They are designed to route rain runoff
into large pipes that lead directly to major ditches, bayous and
other waterways, which ultimately empty into Galveston Bay.
There’s no treatment or filtering of this water between your
yard and the bay.
Please remember there is a leash law and you must keep your
pets on a leash. If your pet relieves itself in your neighbor’s
yard or in the common area, please be considerate enough to
clean up after your pet. Besides being a nuisance, uncollected
dog waste is a serious problem. Uncollected dog waste
spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste.
The trash contractor/recycling company for Windstone Colony
CAI is WCA Waste Corporation.
Residents should contact Waste Corporation directly with any
questions.

It is your responsibility to make sure that nothing but untainted
rainwater flows from your yard into storm drains. Lawn
clippings, leaves and other debris often clump, contributing to
flooding in your neighborhood. And that’s only the beginning.
If you’ve used chemicals on your lawn or garden, they may
contaminate the water that runs off from rains or your sprinkler
system.
Windstone Colony
Even nontreated lawn clippings do harm. When they
decompose, they release carbon and nitrogen that feeds
undesirable algae, which, in turn, use up oxygen in the water,
contributing to fish kills.
This is not just a matter of civic concern or responsibility. It’s
the law:
“Sweeping grass, leaves, grass clippings, yard waste, etc.,
into a storm drain is cited as a civil solid-waste violation of
State Municipal Solid Waste rules, Chapter 330.15 (a)(1).
Civil penalties are $50 to $25,000 per day per violation.
Criminal penalties, if pursued, are $500 to $100,000 per day
per violation.”
The best option, ecologically speaking, is to re-mow several
times so the clippings will sink down into the lawn and break
down quickly, providing valuable fertilizer. Alternatively, bag
lawn clippings, allow them to compost and then spread them
on the lawn. Don’t put these bags out for the trash. This
contributes to landfill problems.
The pipelines that go through our subdivision is also not an
approved solid waste site.
If you send your clippings and other yard wastes off with
your yardmen, please impress on them the importance of
not flushing them down the drain or dumping them in an
unapproved waste site.
If you are someone that has dumped your yard waste onto the
pipelines we will give you 30 days to remove this before we
report you to the proper authorities.

COIN DRIVE AT CY SPRINGS BENEFITS
NORTH TEXAS TORNADO VICTIMS
by Kristen Stewart
Members of the National Honor Society and FFA clubs at Cypress
springs High School joined together Jan. 19-25 for a fundraiser for
victims of recent North Texas tornadoes. A coin drive was held for
all lunches during the weeklong collection period, resulting in $600
raised by students and administration that will be donated to the
Nevada (Texas) Volunteer Fire Department.
The fundraising timeframe was chosen to honor Martin Luther
King Jr. Day and his charitable spirit for the community. The week
was dedicated to encouraging students to adopt a giving spirit and
contribute to a needy community. “For us to be able to do something
so families can eat and have clothing, a few pennies isn’t too much,”

said Esther Hartman, Cypress Springs teacher and NHS co-sponsor. Tornadoes devastated the North Texas area on Dec. 26, wrecking
homes, businesses and families. Collin and Garland counties were among the most affected by the tragedy. The fundraiser was geared
toward servicing Copeville, a small town with a population of approximately 130 that lost major sources of income including a gas station,
feed store and daycare center that hurt the economy. “Spare change can make a change. Anything counts,” said Cypress Springs junior
Monica Godinez, a student advocate.
CYPRESS SPRINGS TRACK STANDOUT WINS STAR ATHLETE AWARD
KPRC Channel 2 sports reporter Simone Eli visited Cypress Springs
High School girls’ track and field practice on Jan. 28 to present senior
long jumper and sprinter Samiyah Samuels with the KPRC Star
Furniture Star Athlete of the Week award.
Samuels won first place at two indoor track meets. Her jump of
19 feet, 9 ½ inches at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic
on Jan. 8 was good for a gold medal. She then jumped 20 feet, ¼
inches at the Carl Lewis Invitational on Jan. 16 to break the prior
meet record of 18 feet, 8 ¾ inches.
The University of Houston track signee earned Athlete of the Meet at
both meets. “I feel like all my hard work is paying off with rewards on
and off the track,” Samuels said. “I’m really proud and really excited
for my future.”

Samuels won a gold medal in the long jump, as well as bronze
medals in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter relay events at the
2015 UIL State Track and Field Championships, and is eyeing
Olympic qualification and the national long jump record. Her head
coach, Ruqayya Gibson, said the goals are within reach. “Samiyah
is putting in the work, and the results can be hers if she wants them,”
Gibson said. “She’s starting off this year so much further than where
she started last year, so I’m expecting great things from her.”
