ANNUAL REPORT
Dearest Friends and Supporters,
On behalf of our board of directors, staff, and the hundreds of thousands who benefit from the
Merrimack Valley Food Bank’s hunger relief initiatives- THANK YOU for your commitment to our
organization and our mission.
Fiscal year 2015 was record breaking- MVFB surpassed our goal and distributed over 3
million pounds of healthy food.
That’s enough for more than 2.5 million meals!
With a modest sized staff operating in a donated mill building, we would not be able to successfully
serve our mission without you and your passion to fight hunger.
Because of your dedication to helping those in need, we have been able to ease the burdens
endured by many by providing them with nutritious food so that our neighbors can meet their own
financial obligations AND maintain their nutrition.
Because of YOU supporting the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, children, seniors, veterans, disabled,
and working families are able to work (or seek work), learn, and LIVE. We are very excited to
continue our success as we enter our 25th anniversary year in 2016.
With sincerest appreciation,
Jimmy Good
Amy L. Pessia

MERRIMACK VALLEY FOOD BANK
Distributes fresh
produce and other
nutritious foods to residents of three Lowell public housing complexes
from July through October. Community Market increases the availability
of fresh, ethnically appropriate produce families are struggling to afford
while bring together residents as neighbors. Children’s activities and recipe sharing
throughout the Community Market season enhance the program. During FY 2015, over 250
residents attended the market, which provided 16,850 pounds of produce.
Contributed
91,954 pounds
of perishable
food to our
partner
agencies in Lowell, Lawrence and Chelmsford,
thanks to our partnerships with Stop & Shop and
Hannaford Supermarkets in Lowell and Chelmsford.
Provided lunches and
snacks to children at 12
partner sites in Lowell
for eight weeks during
the summer. Nearly
12,000 lunches and
snacks were served to
children participating in
summer programs.

The population that MVFB serves includes
individuals and families who visit pantries for
groceries or meal programs for a daily, hot
meal. They are 100% low-income;
unemployed; underemployed; those working
several jobs to make a living wage; individuals
receiving SNAP; children of all ages; seniors;
adults; homebound elderly and disabled;
veterans; single parents; and the mentally and
physically challenged. Some have depended
on these services for years and still worry as
to where and when their next meal will be,
whereas many others have only recently been
forced to face a new reality of food insecurity.
