ABOUTAMBER
My name is Amber Balcaen. I am a 23 year old, third generation race car
driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Racing is my life, and I can’t
imagine doing anything else. Being a professional race car driver has always
been my dream, however I did go to school to get my business diploma as
well. My ultimate dream is to become a full-time NASCAR driver. I want to
be the first Canadian woman to win a NASCAR series race, and racing a dirt
track sprint car is just one way to get me there. The passion, determination
and persistence that I have for racing will help me to achieve those dreams.
I have been racing since the age of 10, but have been surrounded by racing
for my entire life watching my dad, grandfather, cousins and uncles race as
well. My many successes early in my career are only the beginning of what
I want to accomplish. I know with hard work I have what it takes to be one
of the most successful female drivers of my time, and I am excited for the
journey ahead.
Aside from being a race car driver, I am also a dream chaser; I believe in
going after what I want and I believe I can achieve my goals. I feel that that
being different is a good thing which is something I wished I had learned
when I was younger. Because of this I have become an advocate for antibullying. As I build my brand, it is important for me to be a positive role
model for younger girls. I want to be a public speaker for topics like antibullying and following your dreams. I also want to be able to give back to
the dirt track racing community by offering sponsorships for other drivers like
me.
There are many attributes that make me attractive to a potential sponsor.
The first one being the most obvious; I am a young woman. Being female in
a male-dominated sport brings a lot more attention to the driver, the car, and
the sponsors associated with both. Being female makes me different, which
is why certain fans are going to like me, and that’s going to give my sponsors
HOMETOWN
more media attention. A common comparison is Danica Patrick. Everyone
knew who GoDaddy was after they became her sponsor. She also gets
DATE OF BIRTH
more TV air time during the actual race (commercials and media attention)
because she is female and I will bring those same benefits to my sponsors.
The second characteristic that separates me from my competitors is that I am Canadian. Being Canadian in an industry that is
mainly American is a competitive advantage. It’s another attribute that would bring more attention to me (as a driver) and my
sponsors.
The fact that I have a business diploma also separates me from my competition. The majority of racers go from high school right
to being a race car driver. Having a business diploma with a concentration in marketing courses helps me better understand the
business side of racing. I understand the importance of building and maintaining relationships with sponsors, coworkers and fans.
Racing is just as much of a business as it is a sport, having an education is definitely an advantage.
Fans gravitate to drivers who are genuine, humble, relatable and kind. It has been said, I possess all of these qualities. A driver who
takes the time to show their fans their appreciation is valuable to a sponsor. I appreciate my fans and strive to be a positive role
model for them.
Lastly, the passion I have for racing is enormous. I have been around racing my entire life, it’s in my blood and I wouldn’t have it any
other way.

Each week, the crowd varies from 2,000 to 3,000. Occasionally, when there is a rare perfect summer night in Grand Forks,
