Chair of the jury
Elected “instrumental soloist revelation” by the Victoires de la Musique
(French Grammy Awards) in 2009,
Romain Leleu is considered one of
the best performers of his generation.
Trained by Éric Aubier, Romain Leleu
was awarded a Premier prix for
trumpet, followed by the Chamber
Music Prize (both with honours) at
the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSM).
He went on to study with Reinhold
Friedrich at the Musikhochschule in
Karlsruhe (Germany) and continues
to chain the distinctions.
With a repertoire ranging from Baroque concertos to works of the twenty-first century, Romain
Leleu appears as a soloist with the principal French national and international orchestras and is a
regular guest at leading French and international festivals.
He has premiered new works by composers including Martin Mataton, Philippe Hersant, Karol
Beffa…
As a chamber musician, Romain Leleu appears with Thierry Escaich, Olivier Vernet, Igor Tchetuev, the Convergences Ensemble etc.
Romain’s discography includes recordings released under the Aparté/Harmonia Mundi and Sony
labels. All his recordings has known a sharp success with the general public as well as with the
critics.

Airelle Besson has an impressive track-record. She trained with
Wynton Marsalis, Pierre Gillet and Kato Havas (Yehudi Menuhin‘s
disciple) in Oxford, graduated from the Conservatoire National
Supérieur de Musique de Paris and was winner of the international jazz competition “Paris La Défense” in 2008. This multitalented trumpet player shines on the European scene with her
projects, (the Airelle Besson Quartet and duo with Nelson Veras),
as a much sought after sidewoman.

Article 1 
 The 9th European European Competition for young Trumpeters in
Alençon will take place on 25, 26 and 27 November 2016.
This competition is organized by the Urban Community of Alençon.

 The jury will be chaired by Romain Leleu.
 This competition is open to the European trumpeters from 10 to 17
years old, divided into two categories (excluding the pupils of CNSM, the holders of CNSM
prize and/or international prizes].
Catégorie A: until 13 years old (born in 2003 max)
Catégorie B: until 17 years old (born in 1999 max))

 Two weeks before the competition,
the candidates will receive a notice about the
precise time and place.

Article 9   Prizes
Catégorie A - 1st prize: a trumpet YAMAHA YTR 4335GII worth €750 incl. tax offered by
L’ATELIER D’ORPHÉE (Le Mans) and YAMAHA Music Europe.
Catégorie B - 1st prize: a voucher of €3 100 incl. tax offered by BUFFET-CRAMPON and
L’ATELIER D’ORPHEÉ (Le Mans), deductible on the acquisition of a trumpet B&S, Professionnal
series.
And prizes in the form of vouchers or other equipment offered by the Urban Community of
Alençon, the Orne Council and the Parents’ Association of conservatory students.
Article 10 
 Jury
jury will deliberate at the end of the qualifying heat and the final. In case of equality, the
chair’s vote is prominent.
b  The jury can award a prize only to the candidates who reach the final.
c  The jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes. The jury has the option of awarding the
honours. The 1st prize in each category cannot be shared. For other prizes, in case of a tie,
the award will be divided.
d  The jury’s decisions are final.
The results will be officially announced.

Article 11   Registration form
A complete registration form must be sent to the address of the competition no later than Friday,
21 October 2016 (as attested by the date of postmark), including the following documents:
the registration form, duly completed and signed,
a photocopy of identity card or passport,
a recent photograph (stating the name and surname on the back),
the payment by check.
Article 12    Registration fees
The registration fees are fixed at €30, net of all related expenses (lodging, meal, outside
accompanist).
In case of withdrawal, no refund of registration fee can be claimed.
Article 13 
 Travel and living
The travel and living expenses are the responsibility of the participants.
Article 14   The organiser reserves the right to change the dates or cancel the competition according to the number of participants and if necessary to refund the registration fee.
Article 15   The various heats and concerts can be broadcast on radio or television
without making these broadcasts as the subject of any financial remuneration.
Article 16   The fact of competing implies the competitors’ pure and simple acceptance of the regulations. In case of dispute, only the writing in French language will be valid.

Article 8 
 Practices: a pianist will be
available to the candidates. The candidates must
specify at the time of the registration if they want to
practise with the pianist.
