The neighborhood Fire Station (San Bernardino Fire Department Station 226) was invited to
the church to help judge the Chili Cook-Off. This year ten church members participated in the "Chili
Cook-Off", including the Pastor John Deming (second from the right). The Firefighters rookie
Steve Avila (far right); Engineer John Miller (second from the left); and Captain Greg Soria (far

everal churches in the Inland Empire have provided
alternative festivities to the
traditional Halloween celebration.
At Calvary Chapel of San
Bernardino, also known as the
"Red Barn"; Pastor John Deming
has provided a carnival environment for the kids and parents to
enjoy. The back parking lot was
transformed with lighting, game
booths. There were giveaways,
face painting, a jump house, and
several contest. The entire neigh-
borhood was invited, and many
non-church members attended.
During the middle of the festivities, a fire truck suddenly appears
driving around the parking lot with
red lights, and siren, blowing it's
air horn, catching everyone by surprise. The neighborhood Fire Station (San Bernardino Fire
Department Station 226) was invited to the church to help judge
the Chili Cook-Off. This year ten

neer John Miller; and Captain
Greg Soria) voted and selected this
year's winning chili made by
Linda Albright, as their absolute
favorite! Pastor John's chili came
in second best.
Back in the parking lot, several
people gathered together for the
church's traditional "Cakewalk".
Kris Dill, one of the members of
the Children's Ministry, coordinated the "Cake Walk" this year.
Kris organized the participants to
walk in a circle, while music was
being played. The person standing
on a designated number written on
the circle was the winner the
"Cakewalk" and got to take one of
the cakes home. During this festival, everyone was a winner. After
each game the participants was
awarded with a couple of treats, to
fill their candy bags.
In the patio area Sergio Quinonez
and his daughter Naomi are making cotton candy for a never ending line of kids looking for treats.
Sergio and his family are involved
in many ministries at the church.
Several bales of hay surrounded
a roaring fire, as families gathered
to sing songs and hear stories.
Augie Oyola, dressed in a "Western Sheriff's" outfit, kept a close
eye on the kids, keeping them
away from the flames. Eric Coe,
one of the Sunday morning Worship Leaders, lead the kids in special music. Eric is the son of the
Pastor Lee Coe, who became Calvary Chapel's Senior Pastor about
a year and a-half ago.
