This is the time of year that is full of celebrations and
recognitions- Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial
Day, graduations and weddings. But it’s also a time to
celebrate and recognize the many gifts that people bring
to our family of faith.
June 2015
On May 17, the sanctuary was full of joy as we
celebrated our Music Ministries. I am grateful for the
dedication and work of all who participate in our music
ministry and worship. I appreciate those who serve the church with their
gifts as directors, singers, musicians, sound technicians, ushers, greeters
and for those who serve on the worship committee. On May 24th, we
ordained and installed new deacons and elders who will bring their gifts of
leadership and service to the church and we thanked those who served the
church through their gifts these previous 3 years. On June 7th, we will
celebrate our youth and especially those who are graduating. We will
recognize their journey of accomplishments as well as the new journey they
are on to discover more fully their gifts and talents. In the fall, we will be
celebrating the gifts of our teachers and their work with our children and
youth.
Mission Statement:
These different gifts and talents of people, God gives to help build up the
body of Christ. God equips us and desires for us to utilize the talents and
spiritual gifts that we have. However, sometimes, these gifts are not always
easily recognized. We sometimes might think that we aren’t gifted in a
certain area. Many times, I’ve heard someone say ‘I could not possibly
teach a Sunday School class because I don’t have the gift to be a teacher’ or
‘I wouldn’t be good at working with the youth, I don’t have the patience’.
But part of discovering our gifts comes in the process of doing and in the
act of service. In other words, we may discover that we are able to teach
only in the midst of teaching. Part of our faith journey is being open to
God’s Spirit to speak to us and discover those gifts. God can speak to us in
a variety of ways - through the encouragement of others who see in us
something we can’t see in ourselves or through an opportunity that we have
resisted but keeps coming back to us over and over again.

(Continued from cover)
While some spiritual gifts may be more obvious, others like hospitality, and encouragement are equally important.
As Paul shares in Ephesians all the gifts God gives are for building up the body of Christ until all of us come to the
unity and maturity of faith which allows us to understand the fullness of Christ and his love. I hope that we will
continue to share our gifts and encourage one another to discover the gifts that each of us has so to become the body
of faith God intends. May we continue to find ways to offer our gifts to the glory of God and through the mission of
the church. Let’s take time and truly give thanks and celebrate all the many gifts that God has so graciously provided
through the people at YLPC. Ann
Welcome New Officers of YLPC!
On May 24, we ordained and installed our new Elders and Deacons for the Class of 2018. Each elder
or deacon serves for a three year term. We are grateful for those who have stepped forward to serve
the congregation in these leadership roles. Please take some time to get to know all of our

TOWNHALL MEETING – MAY 31ST
Facilities
We will continue our exploration of our Mission during the next Townhall Meeting on Sunday, May 31st – beginning at 11:00 AM. The next
meeting will use our Church Mission Statement to examine ourselves,
our activities and our relationship with our Community. A light lunch
will be served, and we will be doing some fun activities to get the
“creative juices” flowing!
“AED” Training
At the last Townhall meeting, we underestimated the amount of food
needed for lunch, based on the amount of signups we had prior to the
meeting. We would like to make sure that we have enough food for
everyone at the next meeting; please let us know via the signup sheets if
you are thinking about attending the meeting, or let one of our
Townhall Meeting Coordinators know; Karen Green, Bill Kittredge,
John Israel, Matt Kelley or Pastor Ann.
Children’s Ministry
Emmaus Road Sunday School
In May we studied Pentecost and God’s gift of the Holy Spirit that descended on
the disciples like a mighty wind and touched each of them with flames of fire.
Traveling to the Celebration, Imagination, and Information Learning Stations
children had the opportunity to work with the story using several learning media.
In the Information Station they used Kid Pix to create an explanation of Pentecost using pirate language. In the Imagination Station, children did several scientific experiments that revealed the power of the forces of nature reinforcing
the concept of the power of God’s Spirit. In the Imagination Station children
decorated kites that they flew on Pentecost Sunday. In the Interpretation Station
children sang, danced, acted, and made musical instruments, as they celebrated
God’s gift of the Spirit which empowers those who love Jesus to do all that he
commanded.. In June we will study the Parable of the Good Samaritan, found in
Luke 10:25-37.
5th Graders Moving Up
Our fifth grade children will be moving up to the Middle School Program in
June. On June 7th they will remain in worship for Communion. On June 14th
they will begin attending Sunday School in the modular. Children in preschool
through 4th grade will remain in their current groups until September.

(Automated External Defibrillator)
We hope you’ve noticed the
white metal box mounted to the
wall in the east end of the Narthex
that has “Defibrillator” printed on it.
But, how many know how to use
this vital device in an emergency
situation?
With minimal training, the AED
is designed to be used so that anyone can respond in an emergency
situation. Several of our members
have already been trained.
To ensure as many as possible
have this training, the Facilities
Committee would like to hold a 45
minute class on using the AED with
an excellent video produced by the
Manufacturer that covers all you
need to know to help someone who
needs emergency help. If enough
people sign up, the Fire Dept. Paramedics will conduct it free of
charge!
There will be a signup sheet in
the Narthex right by the AED for all
who are interested to help in an
emergency situation.

Summertime!!!!
May was a time of fellowship and fundraising, we kicked off the month
with our May GoY event at Sky Zone where we spent a couple of hours
jumping on ginormous trampolines and playing dodgeball. Nothing brings
a group closer together than some old fashion competitive sports.
Many of you also contributed to our fundraiser, with your help we were
able to raise $505 towards our camp funds. Your contributions were
greatly appreciated and we enjoyed the time serving you all.
With June upon us, it feels appropriate to begin discussing summer plans, get ready to mark your calendars!
First, our Summer Kick-Off party will be June 20th from 3-5pm at YLPC.
Second, Swim N Study Starts June 22nd at the Sproals. We will meet every Monday for 6 weeks, Ohana 5-7 and
Konionia 6-8. During SNS we will share an overlapping dinner hour. If you are interested, or know someone interested
in providing either food or a pool please follow the link below to sign up.http://ylpc.weebly.com/swim-n-study.html
Also, keep in mind, due to Independence Day, our July GOY event will be July 11th.
Furthermore, for those of you attending camp, second deposits of $200 per student are due this Sunday. While middle
school spots are all gone, Hume does still have High School spots for anyone interested, this includes incoming
freshmen to outgoing seniors.
Finally, as always, check out our website for up to date information: http://ylpc.weebly.com/

2016 Presbyterian Women’s Retreat….Save the date!!!
March 11-13, 2016 … Taquitz Pines in Idyllwild
Our annual Women’s Retreat with Placentia Pres. Church women will
take place the weekend of March 11-13, 2016. All YLPC women and friends
are invited to attend. This year our speaker/leader will be Rev. Tamara John
whom you might remember with Hope for Life Chapel RV Ministry in Huntington Beach. You may remember her speaking at YLPC about her ministry.
With compassion, passion and a mission to serve others and bring people to
Christ, Tamara brings excitement and enthusiasm in all that she does. Spending a weekend with Tamara will undoubtedly bring you home feeling refreshed and motivated.
Although this is rather early to think about Women’s Retreat, what a neat
idea to start saving now. If you just set aside $5.00/week for the next 40
weeks, you will have enough for the retreat plus money for gas to drive up
with friends or for shopping on Saturday afternoon. Remember, mark it on
your calendar now and begin your savings account. Come and catch
Tamara’s spirit!! Anne Sivley
