January 2015
Bhoomi Poojan
The iconic Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) in Churchgate will
have a world-class second campus at Kalina soon.
A host of major dignitaries from the corporate
world joined together to commence the Bhoomi
Pujan ceremony, which was performed on the 1 st
of October, 2014 at the University of Mumbai,
Kalina.
Former JBIMS students like Sam Balsara,
Noshir Kaka, Chanda Kochhar and Ajay Piramal
have come together to raise funds for the new institute. The alumni body has raised Rs 85 crore,
of which Rs 30 crore has been contributed by the
Jamnalal Bajaj Trust.
The institute plans to offer state-of-the-art
infrastructure at the new building at Kalina and
increase the capacity to 1,500 students. At least
15% seats will be reserved for international students. The alumni body also plans to get international faculty on board.
"Since the shape of the land is triangular,
the architects are sweating it out to design the
new campus. However, we are hoping to erect
three buildings housing academic and administrative departments. The hostel, gymkhana,
sports facilities and convention centre are there
at the Kalina campus, across the road, which we
can easily share," said Dr. Kavita Laghate, incharge director of the institute. The institute
would be able to offer more seats in the regular
two-year postgraduate programme and launch
few innovative courses once the campus is ready
in the next two years.

The New Admission Process for the Batch of 2017
Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management
Studies, consistently ranked among the top BSchools in the country, is undoubtedly one of
the most sought after management institutes.
According to recent ratings by an online assessment website, JBIMS is rated among the top 5
management colleges in India for finance and
among the top 15 colleges for marketing. As
we march into our golden jubilee year, we feel
proud to inform you that we have attained
autonomous status and in accordance with the
same, the two year full time masters in management studies (MMS) programme, an
equivalent to Masters of Business Administration course, admissions to which were previously under the jurisdiction of the Directorate
of Technical Education, Maharashtra, and
M.Sc. (Finance) programme will now be administered internally by our institute, under
the able guidance of the Academic Board
comprising of noted alumni, internal faculty
and University representatives.
The autonomy brings in a lot of changes
for the aspirants as they can explore opportunities to build on an outstanding professional
track record through exposure to excellent faculty of our institute and leading industrialists of
India. It will give more options and freedom to
our institute and students in various aspects. It
will also help in fostering better quality of students as our institute will have the discretion of
selecting the aspirants.
The admission process will be selective
for both MMS and M. Sc. Finance courses. The
process is conducted through online applications and the institute has not floated any
physical forms for the same. We have received a great response in terms of applications
coming in for the admission from all across the
nation. The other basic criteria for admission
remain the same. One significant change that
we are looking at is that once the candidates are
Page 4
shortlisted, they will have to go through a personal round which may consist of group activities, personal interview and written ability test; for foreign nationals residing outside
India, the same will be conducted over Video
Calls and VoIP. Foreign Nationals, NRIs,
PIOs can apply through GMAT scores taken
on or after January 2011. The combined
score of the entrance exam, past academic performance and extracurricular activities will be
considered.
The current intake remains the same
at 120 students for our flagship MMS programme. However, a new building is proposed for the Institute at the Kalina campus of
the Mumbai University and we are planning
to increase the number of seats gradually
once we shift to the new building. The fee
structure for the batch of 2015-17 is in the
final stages of formulation.
With its legacy of 100% placement record and high pay packages bagged by the students post their graduation, JBIMS is the top
choice for many. With the recent progress, we
are expecting a fresh pool of young minds that
are hungry for knowledge to join our institute
and excel in all aspects. We aim to become
the number one college and the first choice
of management aspirants in India. We have
already taken a huge leap in that direction.
With hard work and efforts of our director,
faculty and staff we are making progress towards this dream at a good pace.
We aspire to give a new meaning to the
word excellence and in this endeavour we are
supported by our illustrious alumni, spread
all over the world, who have come together to
give a new direction to our now autonomous
business school, in the form of a new curriculum, a new intake policy, a new campus and
a new energy and vigour to march towards
greater heights.

Summer Placement Report 2014
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
The recently concluded summer placements at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies bear
testimony to this adage. By securing 100% placement record, JBIMS has set standards of consistency
and has offered its students a gamut of profiles in the corporate space.
However, the icing on the cake for this placement season was that two of the most coveted consulting
firms, McKinsey & Co. and The Boston Consulting Group were a part of the recruitment process.
This was the first time in the history of JBIMS that The Boston Consulting Group had come to recruit
students for their summer internships. Firms
such as JLL and DTZ also offered roles in consulting.
Over the years, the BFSI sector has been the
largest recruiter. This year being no different,
the sector recruited one third of the batch, offering them diverse profiles in investment banking, retail banking, equity research and strategic
business management. The companies in this
sector were the top-notch names in finance –
ICICI Bank, Citibank, JP Morgan, Standard
Chartered Bank, HSBC, Goldman Sachs, to
name a few.
