makes stars shine
ure London was the launch pad for the newest ready-to-wear designer brand Red
Bananah, which began hitting fashion capitals around the world with its 2013/14
Fall/Winter Collection. Showcased at Pure London to mark the brand’s foray into the
world of ready-to-wear designer fashion, Dinesh Chandrasena displays his 20 years of
design experience by visualising a wearable, chic, trend-driven collection that would be
an asset in any wardrobe.
The promotional shoot by photographic maestro Ram Shergill, who has trained his lens on
Naomi Campbell and Cheryl Cole, was set in the old grandeur of The White House, in London.
Modelled by socialite and model Olivia Inge and actor, author and former rugby player Raphael
Poulain, the shoot collated some famed industry experts into the team: John Mullan, for hair;
make-up artist Natasha Lakic and stylist Magdalena Marciniak. This debut collection anchored
in the fall colours of chocolate, gold and black reveals Chandrasena’s hallmark vibrancy of colour
in exclusive and exotic fall floral prints.

LAUNCH OF RED BANANAH
Chandrasena believes that fashion has always been a part of human existence. Animal skins for example, were for functionality and
protection, he says. “Throughout fashion history, these needs have walked hand-in-hand; but as human aesthetics evolved, fashion
emphasised trends rather than functionality. Did Marie Antoinette need a two-foot high jewelled structure on her head? Does any
woman need death-defying killer heels?” he asks.
“As a designer, my primary focus remains on trend and functionality, as modern individuals need to feel that they wear garments that
have a purpose and make statements. This is the hallmark of any good ready-to-wear collection and this is what Red Bananah proffers
clients,” he explains. Even in choosing the models for the shoot, he sought career people, confident individuals with thoughts, ideas,
intellect and passion. “Olivia and Raphael embody these characteristics. They are ‘real people,’ very good looking undoubtedly, but firmly on terra firma,” he adds.
Red Bananah brings together design, desire and functionality in its purest form, creating the perfect union between ‘must have’ and
‘need to have,’ with connectivity to global chic. As www.redbananah.com says, ‘at Red Bananah, our clients are our stars!’
