President's Pony Notes—By RJ Coberly
Congratulations to the Central Illinois Mustangers for a tremendous National Show over Memorial
Weekend, and to the award winners
from MCGKC listed in the newsletter!
The venue, organization and execution of the show were exceptional,
and thanks to the many MCGKC
members who helped judge and
work the show along with the Central Illinois club members.
MCGKC also earned a distinctive honor on May 17th as the first
car club to conduct a show and shine
at the new Kansas City Auto Museum as a part of the museum’s
Grand Opening. Thanks to the 26
members who attended the event
and enjoyed the festivities.
June is a really big month for
the club and its members, with the
High Five Tour starting on Friday the
20th, and our Annual Show at Bass
Pro starting on Friday the 27th. I
highly encourage members to participate and take an active role in
both of these major events.
Thanks to Mark Raab and his
committee for the planning and coordinating of the High Five Tour and
to Brad McKnight and his committee
for the same superb dedication and
development activities for the Annual Show. Please contact Mark and
Brad if you have not yet volunteered
to help out for either of these
events, including judging for the annual show.
The details of these events
are included in the Social Director
report within the newsletter, and are
included on the club’s Facebook and
website pages.
We have many new members, and the club’s membership
level is approaching 220. I’m taking
this moment to welcome each of you
to the club and to thank you for selecting us in support of our shared interests in all things Mustangs! This is
the club’s 30th anniversary year, and I
also want to thank our long standing
members who have created and cared
for such an exceptional hobbyist organization over these many years.
Speaking from personal experience, I also want to encourage active
involvement in the club as members.
There are a wide array of events and
activities to choose from, and many
opportunities to participate and work
the events as well as serve the organization as a whole in the application of
your personal career experiences. I
retired 6 years ago and we did not
own a Mustang, belong to any car
club, and only knew one couple in
MCGKC. I’m very pleased to say that
a large part of our retirement now
centers around the club’s activities
and the many, many new friends we
have met since joining in 2009. In
looking back, I’m not sure what
Marilyn and I thought we were going
to do in retirement, and that my
friends is no longer the case thanks to
all of you and this superb organization!!
All We Do is Driven by You –
RJ

Social Report—By Nona Hernandez

On Saturday, May 17 twenty-six cars attended the show-n-shine for the "Mustang 50th + 1
month" celebration at the new Kansas City Auto Museum. We all toured the museum and
they had a Mustang birthday cake for the party. Afterwards, we convoyed to "The Peanut" at
127th & Metcalf for our first DD&D event of the season. Twenty-six people enjoyed early dinner and drinks. We had several new members in attendance for this event.
If you attended the Auto Museum or the Apple Blossom Parade in May you may count it as
the monthly event for the 289 book.

Judges Clinic
We will have a judges clinic at the June Cruise Night conducted by
Lorne Willard. We will make some announcements at the cruise night to
get everyone gathered around a car to go over some basics in judging. If
you want to help at the show, this is a good way to get started and a good
way to learn about what judges look for when judging your car.
High Five Tour 2014
The Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City is honored to welcome the Wounded Warrior Family Support (WWFS) Organization’s annual High Five Tour 2014 to our region. The WWFS’s impressive and powerful Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
adorned with a Purple Heart and a patriotic paint scheme is coming to thank Americans from all across our great country for
their appreciation and support of our nation’s military families for the sacrifices that they make when America goes to war.
We will have numerous opportunities to participate in events during this weekend. The activities will include two
“Driving” Events, a “Diners, Drive In’s and Dives” event, a major club display at Blue Springs Ford and a regional Mustang club
event at WW1 Museum at Liberty Memorial. We encourage member participation in all of the events to show our support for
our military and experience some very interesting history at the same time.
The club’s participation will begin on Friday June 20th with a driving event where members and Mustangs will meet in
the Cabela’s parking lot across from the Kansas Speedway to assemble and cruise to Laird Noller Ford in Topeka, KS. Upon
our arrival at Laird Noller Ford we will join the Topeka Mustang & All Ford Club to welcome the arrival of the Shelby GT500.
The Shelby GT500 will be met there by the Kansas Highway Patrol SSP Crown Victoria, the last full size SSP ever built by
Ford. The display will last for two hours and then club members are encouraged to join in an “exclusive” Diner’s, Drive In’s and
Dive’s dinner event at Henry’s Diner located inside the Harley Davidson dealership directly across the street from Laird Noller
Ford. This fantastic venue also features a Harley Davidson motorcycle museum that we may also enjoy while we are there. At
the conclusion of dinner the members may caravan and escort the Shelby GT500 in to Kansas City.
Saturday June 21st the club’s “monthly participation” event will be held at Blue Springs Ford in Blue Springs, MO. The
event is a display featuring some of the most beautiful Mustangs (YOURS) in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Again, we will
gather to meet the Shelby GT500 which will be escorted by the American Legion Motorcycle Brigade. Throughout the day we
will enjoy food and beverages, a silent auction and a military vehicle display. Dick Wilson from KCMO 94.9 will provide a remote broadcast from the show lot. Blue Springs Ford “Helping Others” project will donate $1,000 dollars to Wounded Warrior
Family Support and the Mayor of Blue Springs will be on hand to present the City’s proclamation to the High Five Tour driver.
Sunday June 22nd the Shelby GT500 will be “FEATURED” on the “Walk of Honor” on the promenade beneath the Liberty Memorial Tower. Mustang clubs from all around the six state region have been invited to come and make a stand as
“Ponies for Patriots” on the terrace at Liberty Memorial. Lieutenant General John Sylvester, an honored guest of WWFS, very
likely will join our own Jim Dorion to represent this awesome Mustang to the great people of Kansas City. While you are there,
be sure to tour the only WW1 Museum in the world, it is a fantastic museum that offers an unforgettable glimpse of the sacrifices our forefathers made to insure our freedom. You won’t regret it.
The High Five Tour 2014 is ever-changing and as of this writing we’ve learned that another “Driving Event” may very
well be added to the tour for Monday June 23rd, a caravan to Jefferson City, MO at Joe Machens Ford. Many of you will remember the High Five Tour in 2012, when we had a spectacular event complete with Police Escort all the way to Jefferson City,
MO. It was a special cruise and Missouri’s own wounded marine Cpl. Tyler Huffman the very first recipient of a Wounded Warrior Family Support “Smart Home” was on hand to see the Shelby GT500 and greet our club members who helped champion
the mission of Wounded Warrior Family Support.
There are additional displays scheduled for the Shelby GT500 during
its stay in Kansas City that will include a gathering at one of the tours major
sponsors, Marriott hotels. In addition, the car will be at a featured display on
Saturday morning at the Kansas City Auto Museum. Other details will be
forthcoming on the tour’s biggest sponsor, the United Auto Workers Union as
there are events scheduled for them on Monday as well as another for an
additional sponsor known as Protection 1 in Lenexa, KS. We will keep the
club informed on all of the late breaking news on the High Five Tour 2014.
Be sure to check for updates regarding our club’s involvement on
our Facebook event’s fan page and be sure to plan on joining in the fun that
is scheduled for you during High Five Tour weekend 2014.
It’s Show Time!
The 2014 Annual Show is rapidly approaching and
so far we only have very few pre-registrations received so
get your registration in now!
This year's list of sponsors includes Bass Pro Shops,
O'Reilly Auto Parts, Olathe Ford, and Mustang Plus. Many
additional companies and individuals have provided sponsorships, contributions, gift certificates, door prizes, raffle
items and goodie bag items. A sponsorship banner will be
at the show in recognition of our contributors.
The membership's response to the request for volunteer sign-ups and judges has been outstanding but we
still need some volunteers so all areas are nicely
staffed. There is always room for more help, so please
note that a signup sheet will be passed around at the
meeting and respond to the email sent out by Joy Stegner
calling for volunteers. The final Judges Clinic is at the
Monthly Cruise Night at Bates City BBQ June 14th.
Set up for the show at Bass Pro will start at 3PM on
Friday June 27th, with the Hospitality BBQ Dinner occurring
that evening at about 5 PM. Show registration will start at
8AM on Saturday June 28th and we want all members to
be there around 7 AM to get our cars parked and everyone
ready to work. Cars may be parked at Bass Pro on Friday
afternoon as security will be provided starting at 4PM on
Friday running through the conclusion of the show on Saturday. This year, there will be no club sales at the show,
but you can purchase a club t-shirt from Matt, our vendor,
at the show.
If you have any questions or desire additional information, contact Show Director Brad McKnight. See you at
the show!!!!

Stegner received an award for the longest distance (225 miles).
MCA National, Springfield, IL
by Lorne Willard & Joy Stegner
The Mustang Club of Greater KC was very well
represented at the MCA National show in Springfield,
IL on Memorial Day weekend. It’s pretty good when
members from the club over 300 miles away wins the
club participation award.
Club members provided parking assistance to
the Central Illinois Mustang Club to help them out with
manpower which was much appreciated and as usual,
several of our members judged cars on Saturday.
providing parking help for their show in August.
The joint club meetings were largely attended,
and there was quite a bit of entertainment provided by
a couple of our members on Saturday night. Of
course, what happens at an MCA show stays at an
MCA show, but it will be in the minutes. You’ll have to
attend the Lincoln show to find out.
