Clinicians treat patients primarily in the Pediatric Inpatient Unit and PICU at John Sealy Hospital and in our Island and mainland clinics. Our ability to provide support to referring physicians includes a new Pediatric Specialty Center in League City, providing multidisciplinary care in a state-of-the-art setting. In recent years, we have extended our services to both UTMB patients and patients seen by regional pediatricians, with Pediatric After Hours Urgent Care Clinics in League City and in Galveston. In addition to treating patients at UTMB Health locations, our specialists see patients in San Antonio, El Paso and Beaumont, Texas. June 19–20, 2015 EDUCATION A tradition of excellence in medical education is a core value for the Department of Pediatrics. Established in 1924, UTMB is home to the first pediatric residency training program in Texas. Our faculty participate in the education of medical students, residents, and subspecialty fellows. The goals of the pediatric experiences in medical school are for students to develop both the basic skills for caring for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as to appreciate the influence of growth and development on diagnosis and management of illness. A focus on family-centered care is an important element for our learners at all stages.
