If you are a regular reader of The Evening Sun, then you are well
aware of the dedication pages we produce on a season-by-season
basis.
Last winter, we produced a full page to recognize the Norwich varsity
boys’ basketball team’s third straight Section IV championship.
We looked over this year’s accomplishments, and noted that six
teams, and at least that many athletes achieved at a championship- or
record-breaking level. So we expanded on our dedication theme in a
big way.
Today’s publication is the first of its kind for this paper – full-color
photos on the majority of the 20 pages – with summaries of
accomplishments and new quotes from the majority of our
outstanding athletes
As the title of this supplement indicates, “The Best of Chenango
County Winter Sports,” it is not all-inclusive. Unfortunately, teams/
athletes from G-MU, Greene, Otselic Valley, and Unadilla Valley
were not featured; however, those schools may indeed dominate this
section in future years.
The compilation of these pages was not a selection process in which
we - as a newspaper - decided whom we should feature. The athletes
and teams selected themselves based on their accomplishments during
the 2014-2015 winter sports season.
There was no intent to slight the hundreds and hundreds of boys and
girls along with their respective teams who are not appearing in
today’s issue. The “Best of” is just our way of giving a big pat on the
back to those who achieved at a championship level. If we missed an
athlete or team, we want to hear about it.
This is a first-time venture that we intend to build on in future years.
Of course, there are always a few kinks in the roll-out process, and we
welcome feedback from our readers.
Please enjoy this keepsake edition as we continue our effort to
provide the best Chenango County sports coverage.

“I always loved bowling because it was such an individual sport, so when I started bowling again in the seventh grade on the school team, it took some
getting used to. Sometimes you bowl your best game, and your teammates bowl their worst - or vice versa. But thanks to my family, Family Recreation Lanes,
Sammy Ventura - the local pro bowler - and my coach, Mr. Rigas, we were able to do very well at sectional championships this year making school records.
I have no plans for college yet, although I would love to pursue collegiate bowling and maybe even PBA pro bowling in the future.” Corey Huggins
