Dear Brollies
They say good things come to those who wait! This edition
took a little longer than expected. As we are almost half
way through the year and close to financial year
end ,stress levels somehow tend to be a little high. Nevertheless we Brollies always stay positive. Edgars Wernhil,
Pick n Pay centre Walvis Bay and a special inside edition
are just some of the main attractions
in our latest Newsletter.
Please do also take part in our competition, the focus this
time round is the Broll Namibia website ”Good Luck!” We
would once again like to thank you all for your continual
support and hope that you enjoy our winter edition!!
Kind Regards, Broll Editorial Team.
Wernhil Park amazed many of our visitors with the beautiful Easter Wonderland that was
part of our Easter celebrations.
This lush garden was full of greenery, flowers, fountains, water features and toad
stools. Visitors could take a picture with Alice and the Easter Bunny and kids could look
for the hidden Easter eggs inside the wonderland garden.
As for the grown-ups, their Easter Egg hunt was for the golden egg valued at N$1000 in
shopping vouchers when found. Clues were announced daily on radio 99 as well as on the
poster at the garden‟s entrance. One clue had people crying as they could not figure out
where it was hidden, but eventually a child figured it out and won the N$1000 shopping
vouchers. Up until the last day it was a rush by customers to find the egg and six shoppers
were N$1000 richer in shopping vouchers. Tenants were in general very happy with the
décor and also enjoyed the fun that this competition created.
Management would also like to take the opportunity to thank all maintenance members who
assisted in the set-up and breakdown of the garden. That shows that we don‟t only talk the
talk, but that we walk the walk that extra mile.
The Financial Year June
2011 is fast drawing to a
close with less than two
months to go before we
will have to take stock of
what we have achieved
in terms of our organization and the targets we
had set for ourselves.
The past months since
my last MD‟s Message
had again been filled with several great achievements which have once again been the result of a
continued team effort to ensure we reach our targets.
From a development perspective, we can be proud of
the very successful completion of the new Pick „n
Pay Centre. Based on feedback received from both
the public and retailers, the Centre is performing
exceptionally well and is already seen as the most
prime shopping destination at the coast.
Message from the MD
Wernhil Park, with the continued efforts by our Project Manager and the Property Management and
Leasing team, has made tremendous strides, which
includes the completion of the south mall, and the
successful achievement of the much dreaded beneficial occupation date of Edgars. This is truly a great
achievement!
One however also needs to give praise and recognition to those individuals in the background, who play
a vital role when it comes to ensuring our operations
run smoothly, these include our entire administration
team at Wernhil and Head Office, our cleaners,
maintenance teams, cashiers and surveillance teams
who are on the ground every day ensuring our property portfolio is fast becoming the benchmark for
any property in Namibia. Their commitment and
hard work is a critical factor to our organizations
success.
Whatever the result will show on 30 June 2011, I am
confident to say that the Broll Namibia team has
given our all!
Wishing you the very best, and all the strength needed for the remainder of this Financial Year!
Marco
We would like to announce that the Broll
Namibia Website is live!!!

The new and highly anticipated Edgars Emporium opened its doors on 1 June 2011
and is sure to dazzle all existing and new
customers. The new Edgars will cover nearly
6‟200 square meters, offering space, an adventurous blend of colour, fabrics, fashion
and brands all under one roof!
Several major retailers such as Truworths,
Foschini, Identity, Mr. Price Home, Mr Price
Sport (a first in Namibia) Dunn‟s and the new
ATM court have already commenced trading
from their new locations within the southern
and northern retail malls.
Other exciting shops that will open in Wernhil
Park‟s northern mall within the next 45 to 60
days are: Due South, Total Sports, Milady‟s, Sterns, Fashion Express and
Sheet-Street. These retailers will further strengthen Wernhil Park‟s overall
tenant mix and enhance the retail experience offered to our shoppers.
Says Marco Wenk, Managing Director of Broll Namibia: “We also look forward to the newly upgraded and extended Taxi Rank facility which has
been completely redesigned to ensure a more efficient traffic flow. The new
Taxi facility should be completed by latest mid July 2011. Further to this,
and to ensure even more convenience for our shoppers, Wernhil Park has
added an additional 750 parking bays as part of its extension which will be
available to the public early in June
2011”.
“Join us as we celebrate the new Edgars store in Wernhil Park where you
stand a chance to win great in- store
opening prizes. With all the new and
exciting retailers who have opened
their doors, the new Wernhil Park
Shopping Centre offers an all-in one
experience to its loyal clients and a
treat for the whole family”, said Marco
Wenk.
From Seagulls Shopping Mall to Pick n Pay Centre
Broll Namibia is proud to announce the successful
completion of their second Project being managed
by Broll Namibia Project Management division, the
old Seagulls Mall as previously known, now
Pick „n Pay Centre has been upgraded / refurbished for an amount of N$ 20 million.
The upgrade comprised of the refurbishment of the
entire Retail Mall area, this included changing the
main anchor tenants, Pick „n Pay/Clicks, external
entrances on the main parking side, to internal
entrances, hereby inducing the public into the entire Retail Mall, whereby all other tenants that occupy the Mall benefit, something that the previously constructed Mall lacked.
In addition to the newly refurbished Mall, two Entrance Towers had been added to the existing
building whereby creating an aesthetic pleasing
facades on both the sides of the Mall and providing
the public with the opportunity to access the Mall &
all Tenants from both sides. A state of the art Public Ablution facility has also been added to the Mall
that the previous Mall couldn‟t offer to their Customers.
In view of the above and the current new tenant mix the Mall offer the Public, Broll
Namibia believe that the investment made by the Landlord
will reap great benefits for the Landlord as well as all Tenants, this newly completed prestigious Mall is sure to remain a landmark in the Walvis Bay CBD.
BEST COMPANY TO WORK FOR
I am very excited as we are heading towards the next survey for the
”BEST COMPANY TO WORK FOR”.
“The countdown has begun”
As employees we feel proud to be part of the O&L Group and increase our
sense of belonging to the Group as a whole. Our target set for 2011 is to be

1. Employees embrace the overarching O&L vision, strategy and the role
of their own operating company‟s vision and strategy.
2. Employees become important ambassadors for the O&L Group and
their operating company‟s reputations.
3. Employees believe that their individual contribution is of primary importance to O&L and their operating companies‟ strategy, operational
plan & overall performance.
4. Employees are engaged and motivated to perform at their best
(embrace change, improved productivity, safety, innovation, ownership

Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project
in conjunction with Broll Namibia
Broll Namibia has once again decided to partner
in this year‟s Bank Windhoek cancer apple project. The staff took the partnership to a higher
level by having internal team challenges in order
to raise the much needed funds therefore contribute meaningfully to society through our CSI.
The noble cause is PR and strategy aligned.
Public Relations had a meeting with Bank Windhoek Project Coordinators and briefed them on
the Broll exciting proposal. Bank Windhoek

Cancer Survival Story
On meeting Hedwig for the first
time one would definitely sense
her joyful, full of life attitude and
one would never think she is a
breast cancer survivor.
Breast cancer can be defined as a
cancerous growth that inhabits the
tissues in the breast. In this type
of cancer, the cells in the breast
region grow abnormally and in an
uncontrolled way. Though breast
cancer is mostly found in women,
in rare cases it is also found in
men. Hedwig was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, she says
she woke up one day and felt a lump which was not there before.
She was shocked as it did not hurt. The lump bothered her so she
decided to have it checked out. After being examined by her doctor, he then referred her to a specialist who took samples and did
tests. It was later confirmed that she had breast cancer.
The Treatment: They remove the breast with the cancer cells. She
had to go through chemotherapy and radiation. She was also injected with a type of medicine that kills cancer cells through the blood.
The side effects include: pain, vomiting, hair loss, runny stomach,
which is experienced during the treatment process.
Hedwig had to go through a lot of psychological and emotional
stages and she had to change her lifestyle, such as
reducing her alcohol consumption and living a
healthier and stress free life. It also made her testimony in her religious belief and relationship with God
much stronger.
Her advice to everyone is that we should all have
regular check up‟s as it can save your life.

Ron who is fairly new to the company already
shows a lot of interest in Broll Namibia and comes
up with innovative ideas how Broll Namibia can
widen its expertise. Not only does Ron never shy
away from hard work but he also shows a lot of
interest in growing his fellow employees by sending them on the Job training to show them and

We grow people
During this festive season Elmarie has worked
throughout supervising and motivating her team.
Considering the conditions the ladies are working
under (small spaces, vehicle exhaust gasses and
unfriendly clients), Elmarie and her team has shown
that no matter what, they provide a service with a
smile on their faces and to the best of their abilities.
Elmarie is a true value star in that she drives and
motivates her team to do better. And thank you for
your bright and sunny smile every day!

clean her assigned centre but she always offers a

Park and Town Square. Sandra always does what is
expected from her and she does even more by helping our tenants and thus earned her respect and is
very liked amongst our tenants. Sandra has always
a smile on her face and we are so glad having
Sandra in our team. Sandra has definitely a “Let

things right
We vote for Ursula as apart from her busy schedule
and tight deadlines at work, she is always willing
to help others with a friendly smile. She has this
way of making others feel welcome and appreciated. She performs her duties with perfection and she

taking proactive actions.
She absolutely adds value to Broll Namibia and to
her fellow colleagues. Thank you Ursula and keep
up the good work.
The Broll Namibia
retirement function
was held on the
2nd April 2011 at
the Bowls.Club parliament gardens.
It was a bright sunny day and a first
time for most of us.
Learning and mastering the Bowls
sport was challenging and exciting.
We were divided
into teams of four
with two teams
competing against
each other. There
was lots of laughter and cheer in the air. We heard speeches from Marco, Dirk and Charles (retiree) and also handed out
the long service awards. Unfortunately, with the current unpredictable weather; the rain came down and ended our fun
sport. After that we were safely in-doors enjoying a great flavour filled tasting braai and had some refreshing drinks. This
was truly a memorable event. We would like to thank Charles Swartz for all the work that he has done for O&L and Broll
Namibia and wish him all the best for the future. "You will be missed.”
Interview with Charles Beukes:
When did you start working for the group? 4 march
1996 in Walvis Bay. I worked for Rick Joinaries which
was then part of O & L and which fell under Kraatz
Welding. I also helped building Midgard.
After that I worked at Lumber City which was also part
of
O& L.
In 2001 I came over to the O & L workshop at the former Carl List Haus. In between I helped out at Thuringer Hof, Midgard and Mrs. List‟s house.
1st July 2003 I came over to Wernhil Park as part of
maintenance, 2008 I was promoted to maintenance
supervisor.
How do you feel about going on pension? At the
moment it still feels that I am only going on Holiday it
has not sunk in yet that this is my next chapter in life
and that I will not come back to work.
Do you have any plans on what to do with all your free
time now? I thought a lot about it and have something
in the pipeline but for now I will spend a lot of time on
the farm.
Any wise message you would like to give to the
Brollies? Firstly, I would like to say well done to O & L
and Broll Namibia. Since I started working for O & L in
1996 there have been major improvements and positive changes. I feel honored to be part of this strong
foundation of the company. We worked very hard and
long hours to achieve where the company is today and
I am very proud.
Dear Brollies, please take responsibility for the work
which is assigned to you and do it with pride so we
achieve BCTWF.
