Subject: Defective hydrostatic release units recall actions;
Dear Sir / Madam;
After receiving your email on 12/02/2016 with Ref. Ares (2016)763845 concerning our
hydrostatic release units, we felt the need to inform you that we had already been aware of the
situation since the fourth quarter of year 2015 and taking the following recall actions.
1- We asked our distributors and sellers to stop sales activities of hydrostatic release units for
life rafts (HRU LR-1) and for EPIRBs (HRU EP-1), collect the sold products from the market,
gather the collected and ex-stock HRUs in their premises, cut HRU ropes or pins and take a
photo of them immediately afterwards.
Distributor/seller companies and the collected disposed units are indicated in the below table.

& EP-1; due to possible corrosion risk Officially Released Message is as follows:

RECALL DETAILS
In conjunction with:

DESCRIPTION
This recall involves Hydrostatic Release Units (HRU) manufactured by SAFETMADE with
model no LR-1 and EP-1 delivered to consumers for use on life rafts and EPIRBs; sold at
retail locations such as ship chandlers, ship suppliers, life raft repair/service stations, EPIRB
and radio communication service stations, and maritime equipment retailers.
Possible malfunction risks are detected due to harsh sea conditions and high levels of salty
water effect on the product that may result in corrosion inside the unit.
INCIDENTS/INJURES
None reported
REMEDY
REPLACE units in OPERATION (ASAP) and STOP SALES of units in stocks:
Consumers should not try to open and inspect HRU themselves; they should immediately
contact SAFETMADE Marine Products CO. to arrange a replacement at the nearest port.
RECALL DEADLINE
All units should be reported and replaced until 01.09.2016 18:00 EET
Safetmade Marine Products Co. will not be held responsible for any possible incidents due to
non-replaced HRU units after the mentioned above date.
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Issue and send us a documentation that specifies the number of units they hold, their
respective serial numbers, date purchased and date installed on the life raft or EPIRB.
2. According to the information and confirmation supplied by our side, proceed with
replacing the units.
3. Remove the HRU from life raft or EPIRB. Disable units by cutting their ropes or
breaking pins. Take photos of removed HRU units and send to: [email protected]
4. Removed units should be disposed as an expired
