The show of Buick force at the Brand X Bash was strong. Unfortunately the event was later
forced into cancellation due to rain. Above: Josh DeRemer prepares for his time trial in the
family’s beautiful 71 GS 455 convertible.
If you like Buick hybrids, you would
have to love this
beautiful first generation Camaro that was
on hand. It was powered by a well laid
out Buick 3.8 turbo
motor. A trick AMC
rambler,
(partially
pictured in background) also powered by a 3.8 turbo
motor, put on a good
show as well.

A Word From the Vice President
Well boys and girls, here it is already almost summer time and we are really just now getting the Buick’s cranked up and we
have had a couple of club races at Redline. Participation has been good, but; we would like to see more members come out
and support this event. The car shows at Chucks are doing real well. Thank you to Steve Barnett and all of his crew at
Chuck’s. They do a wonderful job. Does anyone know how long we have been at Chucks? I had to think about it myself?
1999 was our first year holding a car show there. So 2005 is our 7th year WOW! Thanks guys.
As I am sure everyone has noticed, we lost Ewing Auto group as a sponsor this year, it was a great relationship while it
lasted and we wish them well. However, we have picked up a new show sponsorship with Texas Driver Magazine. Check
them out online or at our LSPBC shows.
Unfortunately, we were rained at the Temple event earlier this year. Ouch! Maybe a make-up race in the fall will pan out if
we can fit something in to the schedule. Stay tuned.
The Annual club picnic is here, so don’t miss out on this one. It will be at Tom Malouf’s Ranch again in Wills Point, TX.
There will be some great food, fun, fishing etc., and; oh yeah BUICKS!
We have several new members for ’05 and we all want to say, “Welcome to the family”.
Got to keep it short and sweet — See ya at the other end!

A Word From the Show Director
Our 2005 show season is well under way, and so far so good. Last year we averaged 59 cars per show.
We are three shows into the 2005 season and we are bettering that with an average of 63 cars.
Our first ever March show was a complete success with seventy-eight cars registered and about one hundred and twenty cars in the lot. I have to tell you that I was stressed about this show because of the earlier
than normal date. I spent the whole Sunday before the show, with my wife, driving all over North Dallas,
Lewisville and the Plano-Richardson area passing out flyers. I think it worked, since for many of the car
owners, it was their first time at one of our events.
First Place in the LSPBC ’79 & Older class went to George Ray and his beautiful ’70 GSX. Tina Newton and her very sharp
’72 GS 455 was a close second. In the LSPBC ‘80’s & Newer class First Place went to Jack Laswell and his ’86 GN. Victor
Segovia and his ’87 Turbo-T ran a close second.
In the April show, we had a total of sixty-eight cars entered and about one hundred in the lot. First Place in the LSPBC ’79
& Older class again went to George Ray and his ’70 GSX followed closely by Jack Laswell and George Jackson showing a
very clean ’71 GSX and Tina Newton and her ’72 GS 455. In the LSPBC ‘80’s & Newer class First Place again went to Jack
Laswell and his ’86 GN with Victor Segovia and his ’87 Turbo T close behind.
I missed the May show due to a scheduling conflict, but I understand that it went off without a hitch. The turnout was down
considerably, maybe because of the high heat and humidity. We had a total of forty-three cars entered and sixty to seventy
in the lot. First Place in the LSPBC ’79 & Older class went to Tina Newton and her ’72 GS 455, followed closely by Marty
DeRemer showing his ’71 GS. In the LSPBC ‘80’s & Newer class, First Place was won once again by Jack Laswell and his
’86 GN (do you see a pattern developing here?) with David Newton and his nice ’86 GN and Morgan Farrington and his rare
’87 Turbo T “WE-4”, in a very close race for second.
We continue to receive many compliments about our shows and all of the effort that goes into them. That always makes
everyone who works so hard to make each show a success feel good. I thank all of those individuals who volunteer their
time and effort to make sure that our shows are recognized as one of the best in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area.
With three shows down and six to go we are averaging sixty-three cars per show. That is only slightly above our last year’s
average. But the good news is that we still have those six shows in front of us to raise that average up. So let’s clean ‘em
up and bring ‘em out to Chuck’s on that third Saturday night. Your club needs your help to make this season one of the
best. I’m looking for at least twenty-five good Buick owners and their “pride and joy” ride at the next show. You will enjoy
the get together and it’s a lot better than anything you’ll find on Saturday night TV or the dish.
See you on the concrete at Chuck’s.

Special Report:
2005 Lone Star Buick Brand X BASH
By: Phil Green
On March 5th The 2005 Lone Star Buick Brand X Bash was
held at Temple Academy Dragway. The Track owner Greg
Duffield and his wife Peggy (Former Grand National owners)
welcomed all Buick owners to their track for a friendly competition in which they advertised on the Temple Academy Dragways website: Buick’s Versus the World. Under this heading
it stated, Bring Out your Fords your Chevy’s and your Mopars
to race against some of the fastest Buick’s in the country. No
truer words could have be spoken. I could not have said it better myself…
It was proclaimed that the Lone Star Buick Brand X Bash was or is the first official Buick race of the season.,by all..
We had a Great BBQ Prepared By Frank Brooks from Austin, TX. He brought his Truck and BBQ trailer and brought
his 71 GS convertible also. It was such a blessing to have the trailer there and having Frank at the helm to control the
BBQ. It made lunch go much easier than in past years where we had to wait and use multiple grills for lunch..
Just after the BBQ test and tune was underway it was great to see all the Buick’s running down the track. As we got toward the
end of test and tune we were all ready to
start bashing the X’s.
Let The Racing Begin:
7
Now The racing begins…. Or so we had hoped. Everyone lines up in the staging area. Everyone hoping to get a chance
As the RaceBegins The weather slowly
starts to take control. As the first round
of eliminations comes to a close the
weather has officially made it’s way to
the track. As we wait for the weather to
pass by the track staff is trying it’s best
to dry off the track so we can continue
to have a great Buick race. However it
did not change the track conditions,
Most of the action turned to the pits
where we started to BBQ again and
continue to enjoy everyones company.
As the night dwindled away we knew
that the race was off, but we had a great
time testing and tuning , eating BBQ
and visiting with old friends.
As with any Great Event there are all the behind the scene people who help to make a great gathering in to a great event. If
it were not for people Who helped me organize the event. Not Only did we have Texas involved in this event we had a
few people come from Oklahoma A big thanks goes to them as well. It is everyone who makes these an event that will be
treasured
by all.
Also Lets not forget every vendor that supports us in our Buick ambitions. Companies Like PAE, Trishield Performance,
Awards to Go (t Shirts), Lone Star Trim, Conley performance, Majestic Turbo, Mac’s, Century automotive, international
motor cars, Auto Appraisal Group, DeRemer Racing, Monarch Transmission, and Our clubs The BPG (Buick Performance

The Oklahoma Chapter/ Without these vendors and organizations we would not be enjoying our hobby,
Hope To see Ya’ll at The Next Lone Star Buick Brand X Bash!

LSPBC’s BIG BAD 2005 Picnic!
The 2005 LSPBC annual picnic is here! Come join us
Saturday, June 4th for a day full of fun and camaraderie at
LSPBC member Tom Malouf’s Ranch. This will be the
picnic that will be remembered for years to come. Members and their families should begin to arrive after 10:00
a.m. Food will be served about 12:00 or so. Bring your
own chairs if you want a comfortable place to sit down.
Bring your fishing rod if you would like to go fishing in the
large pond. There will also be horse shoe throwing and a
volleyball net set up for some friendly competition. There
will be a club meeting to discuss upcoming events and
plans for the future during this event as well. This event is
scheduled to end around 3:00 p.m. so there will be plenty
of time for everyone to have fun. Don’t forget to bring the
Buick!
VERY IMPORTANT:
There will be a staked perimeter marking the area which
everyone will be restricted from crossing. Please make
sure that all family members attending with you understand
the importance of this. Tom’s ranch is a trophy whitetail
deer ranch and breeding area. His deer are crucial to the
operation of his land and crossing this line may result in
injury or death to his animals! They are very easily frightened by close human contact. Again, please adhere to this
one request and everyone will have a great time. Don’t be
left out!
Don’t forget your fishing pole!
See You There!
