Great Moments in IFC Histor y
The year was 1910, and the United States was beginning to emerge as world leader.
Over in Belfast, construction had begun on the largest and most luxurious ocean-liner
the world had ever seen: the Titanic.
And here in Chicago, on an unusually warm March day, President William Howard Taft
spoke as the guest of honor at the 9th Annual IFC St. Patrick’s Day Dinner.
To accommodate the President’s notorious gir th (historians estimate he weighed
more than 300 pounds), the IFC had a special, throne-like chair constructed.
According to repor ts, the chair held up admirably throughout the dinner.

Held on July 21, 2008, at the Beverly Countr y Club, this year’s Irish Open was another

IFC President Tom Allen, whose infectious grin was par for the course.
Assessor Jim Houlihan and his foursome emerged victorious, though all involved had a
wonder ful day. Lunch and dinner were ser ved and raffle prizes were awarded, with Judge
Maureen Connors dispensing justice from the raffle bin. The Grand Raffle winner was
P.J. Culler ton, who went home with a new television.

An Odyssey to Remember
This past summer, the Boards of Directors of the Young Irish Fellowship and the Irish
Fellowship joined together for an Odyssey Cruise on Lake Michigan. It was a lovely evening
that afforded all the chance to share ideas, stories and conviviality. The food, drinks and
fireworks were outstanding.
