In 1984, the British group PSION introduced a
revolutionary product called “Organiser” onto the
market, capable of collecting, storing and processing
data in the field, and then synchronising with a PC,
it had just invented the PDA, well ahead of the rest
of the market.
In 1980, Canadian company TEKLOGIX was already
demonstrating its ability to innovate by installing
the first networks of hand-held and vehicle-mount
wireless terminals in the huge warehouses of the
US Army.
Response times of less than a second were due to
the quality and the originality of its radiofrequency
communication protocol.
The successive baselines of the two firms over
the past 40 years clearly show the development of
cultures and technologies:

In September 2000, the acquisition of TEKLOGIX

This project was very dear to the SNCF management team,
who are keen to improve the working conditions of their staff
on trains, the efficiency and the reliability of service to travellers, and the global enhancement of the company’s information system. The dream of ticket inspection assisted by handheld computers has come true with the ACCELIO project,
combining a specific software program created by UNILOG, a
communicating PDA and an ultra-light hand-held printer.
The project is now being implemented and the 10,000 SNCF
inspectors will have the satisfaction of replacing their traditional
heavy bag with a 600g PDA!

System Architecture
The architectural design of wireless networks has long
been a topic of debate. Psion Teklogix believes that the
system configuration depends on the system requirement.
We offer a centralised architecture to provide benefits

Access Points
Psion Teklogix designs and manufactures the 9160
Industrial Access Point. Designed specifically for Supply
Chain and Logistics applications, its rugged enclosure
and integrated power supply ensure reliability and
long life in harsh environments. The 9160 AP supports
dual 802.11b/g radio communications for enhanced
coverage, throughput or redundancy. The 9160 is
optimised for use in the Psion Teklogix centralised
architecture, or as a stand-alone access point.
Psion Teklogix is also a Solution Technology Integrator
partner with Cisco Systems.We provide and install the
Cisco wireless portfolio, including the 4400 family of
wireless controllers, the 1200 series enterprise access
points, and the 1500 series mesh access points.
Security
In this age of standardised wireless technologies, security
is critical. Psion Teklogix offers all standards-based
security schemes such as WPA1 and WPA2 (802.11i).
These standards cover both authentication and encryption to ensure that only authorised users can access
the wireless LAN and the wireless transmissions are
strongly encrypted.
If additional security is required, Psion Teklogix can
offer a secure second layer security architecture such
as VPN, SSL and CCX.
Psion Teklogix products also support security network
protocols such as VPN and SSL.
Narrowband
Technology
Psion Teklogix was an early pioneer with Narrowband
radio technology. This secure, optimised radio technology still offers superior coverage characteristics for
large outdoor or complicated indoor environments.
Our latest generation Narrowband radio utilises the
latest technology and is backwards compatible with
our previous generations of products. For specific
applications such as port environments or freezer

This new generation product has been designed to beat the outstanding
records set by its predecessors. Even more robust, more ergonomic, better
communication and cost effective, the 7535 G2 converts into a 1D or 2D barcode scanner, RFID Tag scanner and an Imager, and operates in either emulation

RFID application for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Within the vast array of applications of radio frequency technology, PSION
TEKLOGIX, a leader in the development of solutions for mobile computing,
wireless data collection, and radio frequency identification (RFID), and
SOFTWORK, a value-added distributor for active and passive RFID technologies, present the asset management case for the management of telephone
equipment as implemented by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The
application was developed by Tag Project in Catania, Work-Tag®, a certified
SOFTWORK partner with a wealth of experience in information and communication technology (ICT) and RFID, and the company that studied the IT
aspects and related technology solutions.
The RFID solution, known as Tag Invent, has been adopted by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs in Rome, enabling the ministry to manage and monitor
the movement of assets, from when they are received to when they are
scrapped.
The system involves labeling the equipment with passive RFID tags that make
it possible to record and update all information for each telephone concerning
its status and its movements.
The labels are prepared using an RFID printer and are then read/written
using a PSION TEKLOGIX industrial hand-held computer equipped with
SOFTWORK’s RFID module.

RFID refers to an auto-identification system comprised
of RFID tags, RFID readers and possibly even middleware to interpret tag information and communicate
it to the application software. The RFID tag contains
specific information that is accessed when interrogated
by the radio signal of an RFID reader. Depending on
the type of tag the reader signal may also be used to
write data to the tag.
Goodyear is using the Psion Teklogix 7535 with RD7950 UHF RFID reader along with a software
application from CTI, Akron, OH, to track and manage its tires at all three NASCAR top series in
2006, including the Nextel Cup Series, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series.
With 43 cars at each Nextel Cup race and each car using about 10 sets of tires per race, the task of
tracking all of the tires can be challenging and time consuming. Goodyear’s goal is to optimize how
it tracks the nearly 2,000 tires from manufacturing through distribution to the teams, and then to
the final disposition of the tires after each race.

Site survey
and installation
Deploying a wireless network is more than installing
a few access points and configuring some terminals.
Varying influences can have an effect on the quality
of a radio signal. Above all, our “installation” does not
simply refer to delivering the equipment, but rather
the configuration, setting of parameters and testing
of the system as a whole.
Site Survey
In order to ensure the optimal radio coverage, Psion
Teklogix conducts a site survey for each installation. Each
site has its own characteristics and limitations, and each
unique survey is tailored to provide the best results. This
combined with the experience of our engineers delivers
a very high level of satisfaction for our customers.
The results of this site survey will guide our customers
to select the type of solution required and will optimise
their final choice in hardware.
Installation
Installation is completed in two stages:
> The backbone consisting of all the radio access points
and controllers.
> The terminals and the peripherals (printers, scanners
etc…)
As well as installing the access points, we can optionally
provide wiring/cabling services. Once access points are
physically installed, we configure them and check covered
areas to ensure they meet your requirements.
For the terminals, we follow the same procedure.
We configure the equipment and, optionally, mount
(wire) them. We will check the connection between all
the various access points and radio terminals, and finally the
connection with the server.
Once this work has been completed, our technicians
will record the site configuration and parameters of the
different components and store them in INFO SITE, our
Global Configuration Data Base: This data will then be
