RYLA—Caroline Woodward tells us all about it.
“A life-changing experience” That’s
how Caroline described her time at
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards) this year.
Speaking very confidently to an
expertly produced PowerPoint
presenetation, Caroline took us
through the whole experience and
admitted to having had a few wobbles
on the way there in here dad George’s
car. George kept his car pointing at
Grafham Water and his toe on the
accelerator.
It was all fine but her description did
remind us of that great Allan Sherman
song, Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder
where the lad on summer camp went
from desolation to exultation and didn't want to come home!
Having been on a similar leadership training exercise myself in the past I can endorse the
effect such events have on your character. Like me, Caroline found inner strength and
resources and, being moved firmly our of her comfort zone, deiscovered talents and
abilities hitherto untouched. Socially it proved a great success too and there’s to be a
reunion of the group very soon.
Thank you for being a great candidate Caroline; may this experience continue to truly
change your life. Alan
Caroline is pictured with her certificate of course completion and President Alan hold her
“coaster” presented by the club to recognise her excellent presentation.
Talitha Koum is out of the ground.
TK is one of my chosen charities for this year and is located to the north of Ipswich.
John Cobbold (CEO) came to talk to us at our Club Assembly in June and we will soon be
presenting the project with the first of our contributions toward the project.
Talitha Koum is a Christian Therapeutic Community which will be based on a farm just
north of Ipswich in beautiful Suffolk countryside. We aim to help women who have drug
and alcohol addictions, giving them a rare and creative opportunity to change their lives
for the better.
Last Saturday, I went along and planted a fruit tree (a Concorde Pear) to commemorate 40
years of Ipswich East. Here is the visual proof and a photo of the work so far on one of
two residential block currently under construction.
The Patron of TK and one of our Honorary Club Members, Bishop Nigel Stock was there on
Thursday last to bless the large timber cross that will stand at the entrance. When
complete the complex, which has full planning permission and is currently being built on
farmland at Witnesham, near Ipswich,
The project is being built to help women as a lasting legacy to the five young
women murdered by Steve Wright in 2006

Ipswich Housing Action Group was set up in 1976 by local people because there was almost no housing in the town
which single people could afford – and we’ve been providing housing services for the single homeless ever since.
As well as temporary shared housing our services include Money Advice, Resettlement and Floating Support. We
also campaign vigorously at local and national level on behalf of all single homeless people.
A member of the Money Advice Team would be happy to discuss further, both IHAG and their Money Advice
Service and can be contacted on 01473 213102 please ask for Pam Carlyle
Why not become a Member of IHAG and support the work we do
for some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in Suffolk at www.ihag.co.uk <http://www.ihag.co.uk>
