Supreme Council 2015 Annual Meeting Highlights
More than 1,950 Thirty-third Degree
Masons and their ladies gathered in Indianapolis, Indiana for the annual meeting of
the Supreme Council Scottish Rite Masons
for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction
and the biennial conferral of the Thirtythird Degree. The Supreme Council is the
governing body for 130,000 Scottish Rite
Masons in the 15 Northeast and Midwest
states of the Northern Jurisdiction.
Among those in attendance were Grand
Masters from the state Grand Lodges
within the jurisdiction and representatives
from 34 Scottish Rite jurisdictions around
the world.
John Wm. McNaughton, Sovereign Grand
Commander welcomed visitors at a special
open session for both men and women
on Monday morning, August 31. Inspiration, convenience and enjoyment was the
theme of the session.
On Monday evening, the Michigan
Council of Deliberation hosted the
Annual Michigan Dinner. At the conclusion of the dinner, Illustrious David
R. Bedwell, 33o, Deputy for Michigan,
announced the names of the Brothers
from Michigan elected to receive the
Thirty-third Degree in August 2017 in
Rochester, New York.

9:00 A.M. - 4° Master Traveler - Here is the introduction to Scottish Rite Masonry. This degree
provides us with a preview of the moral truths we shall witness on our journey through the
Scottish Rite.
 
9:35 A.M. - 12° Master of Mercy - Exemplified in this degree is the quality of forgiveness, not
just to forego the opportunity for revenge, but to cease to feel enmity or resentment toward the
transgressor.
 
10:30 A.M. - 16° Prince of Jerusalem - This degree exemplifies fidelity to duty and devotion to
truth.
11:20 A.M. - 19° Brothers of the Trail - This degree expresses the Scottish Rite core values of
Reverence for God, and Integrity.
Noon - LUNCH - Complimentary - Reservations Required - No Exceptions.
 
2:00 P.M. - 32° Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret - This degree describes the victory of the
spiritual over the human in man and the conquest of appetites and passions by moral sense and
reason. The exemplar represents every Freemason eager to serve humanity but caught between
self-interest and the call of duty. Duty often requires sacrifice, sometimes the supreme sacrifice.

Faces of Scottish Rite ~ Class Honoree
Most Worshipful Richard David Wisley, 33o, MSA, Grand Master of Masons in Michigan is
our Class Honoree.
Our Grand Master was born on June 3, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. On June 20, 1970,
Richard married Elaine Elizabeth (Evans) Wisley. They were blessed with three children,
Elizabeth Anne who has a B.A. degree and works in Public Relations and Communications,
Rachel Eve is an Attorney and a very good golfer, and David, who has a B.S. in Engineering
and a M.S. Degree in Finance. All three are married and have given Elaine and Richard five
wonderful grandchildren.
Our Grand Master’s date of birth is a historic day, it was the day that Japan bombed
Dutch Harbor, part of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Also the battle of Midway started
on June 3, 1942. Midway is considered the cornerstone of the turning of the war in the Pacific in WWII, an
engineering and military success.
Ill. Brother Dick graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit and received his Bachelors of Science
Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University. Dick is a proud member of Theta Tau, a National
Professional Engineering Fraternity and is a licensed Professional Engineer for the state of Michigan. From the
day he was born engineering has always been a part of his life.
Our Grand Master served in the U.S. Army from 1965 through 1967 and was assigned to the Army Mobility
Command at the U.S. Army Engineer Research & Development Laboratories at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Dick has
“secret” security clearance for his work at the Combat Engineer Laboratory.
In 2008, our Grand Master retired from General Motors Corporation after 35 years of service, where he was a
Program Engineering Manager. Richard was a two time recipient of the General Motors Chairman’s Honors in
1997 and 1999, for his leadership.
He joined Redford Chapter, Order of DeMolay in 1957, and then Northwood-Ancient Craft Lodge #551 on
November 9, 1973. He served the Lodge as Worshipful Master in 1983 and then as Chaplain in 1989.
Richard is a member of Royal Oak Chapter #167 R.A.M, Mt. Clemens Council #8 R&SM and the Detroit
Commandery #1 . He is also a member of St. Clement Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; the Michigan College,
Societas Rosicruciana; and Thistle & Rose Council No. 27, Allied Masonic Degrees. He is also a member of Moslem
Temple Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Our Grand Master is a Member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Detroit. He joined the Valley on
April 20, 2000, presided as Most Wise Master of Mt. Olivet Chapter of Rose Croix for the years 2005/2006 and
2006/2007. He Served as Commander-in-Chief for the Detroit Consistory in 2012/2013. In 2007, our Grand
Master received the Meritorious Service Award. In 2008, he was coronetted a 33o Sovereign Grand Inspector
General. Our Grand Master served as Chairman of the Children’s Dyslexia Center from 2004-2006.
For his dedicated service to the Valley and his many contributions to Freemasonry, the Valley of Detroit is proud
to name the Fall Reunion Class in his honor.
