GVKC April 11th Meeting Minutes Members Present: Marcy Kraus, Susan Ratliffe, Bruce Fisher, Sonny Kurtz, Audrey Thomas, Kris Fletcher, Mary Ann Hartley, Martha Ihrman, Margo Ellis, Holly Cook, JoAnn Morgan, Frank Welton, Robin Balcerak, Stan Balcerak Guests: None The General Membership Meeting was called to order at 7:40pm. President’s Report: Asked that we review the minutes from the March and April meetings for approval at the May meeting. Details about the upcoming show to be discussed during the Show Committee Report. Corresponding Secretary: No Report Recording Secretary: Absent Treasurer: Holly reported that Yelena has filed the taxes which were owed for last year’s catalog sales. Since our sales tax certificate had expired, it has now been refiled which will avoid a fine. All financial forms have been updated with Holly’s new mailing address. Holly recently deposited Genesee Valley Kennel Club 3 $1,002.00 into the business account. This is money collected from dues, classes, and other submissions. Total assets in all accounts are in excess of $20,000. Website Committee: No Report. GSD Specialty: No Report Awards Committee: Awards for the show have been ordered Sunshine Committee: JoAnn asked for suggestions to support Steve and Ann Barbash. Cards and visits are appreciated. Membership Committee: Several members submitted their dues after the January 1, 2016 deadline and will be reinstated. Show Committee: Holly noted that a lot has been accomplished. Eye Clinic: Ophelia has organized the eye clinic for Sunday. Dr. Burgesser will be in attendance. The cost will be $30 per dog with a minimum of 20 appointments needed. Holly will include the information in the premium list. Host Hotel: The host hotel with be the Hampton Inn on Jefferson Road. They provide a hot breakfast and a shuttle to and from the airport. They will also provide one mile shuttle service for local restaurants. Eight rooms are being held. The Club will need to organize transportation to/from the show site for the judges. The Rush Ladies Auxiliary has been invited to cater the judge’s hospitality area. The Dome has arranged for a food truck and Holly will consult with them to see if a second truck can be arranged. Brewsters, next to the Dome, has offered to advertise in the catalog and include coupons for ice cream. CountryMax has offered their meeting space if needed for events such as the eye and heart clinics. Catalog Advertising: JoAnn is in discussion with CountryMax about possible show sponsorship. Some ad space has already been sold (Hilton Veterinary). JoAnn made a motion and Susan seconded to approve the following ad prices: Inside Cover ($150), Full page ($60/40); Half-­‐page ($35/25); Quarter-­‐page ($25/15). These are prices for non-­‐members/members of the club. The back cover will be $200. All in favor. Susan offered to help club members with catalog ads. JoAnn proposed that we also distribute a map with local businesses identified at the show. The deadline for catalog ads is May 2nd. Parking/Exhibitor Count: This year parking will be charged per car, but it will be useful to know how many total people are coming into the show each day in the event that next year we decide to charge for admission. Those assisting with parking will be asked to keep a tally of the number of individuals in each car. Catalogs will be sold inside the show site, not at the entrance to the parking lot. Genesee Valley Kennel Club 4 Signage: Signage at the entrance to the show will be needed along with directional parking inside for unloading, camping, parking, etc. Robin made a motion, and JoAnn seconded to approve Bruce’s request to order two flutter flags at $59 each from Vistaprint. All in favor. Vendors: We have four so far. Stan and Robin are coordinating. The next meeting for the show committee will be Wednesday, April 27th at 7pm at the Church. Old Business: Gini has notified Holly that she is working on a legislative forum for May. Details are forthcoming. Breeder’s Guide: The last guide was printed in 2008. The three-­‐year charge for a breeder who wished to be included in both the web and print version is $60. It was agreed that applications should be put out at the show, and the guide to be printed after the show. The $60 price will not be increased. Trailer: Discussion postponed until after the show. Match: Will be postponed to fall. Bruce and Susan will meet to discuss a possible September date. The general membership meeting ended at 8:52pm. The Board meeting was called to order at 9:21pm. Holly noted that a deposit of $1200 has been given to the Dome. The base price for the three-­‐day show this year is $12,000. Additional costs include $45 each for “tower-­‐style” electrical hook ups and a $400 cleaning fee at the conclusion of the show. The base price includes the use of the welcome center. Premium crating will be offered to exhibitors at $50/day which pays for their electricity. All grooming will be outside. Two tents will be provided; one with electricity and one without. There is no public address system so we will borrow or buy a PA system for use. Estimated income for this year: Parking ($6,000), RV Camping ($2,400); Premium Crating ($1,000); Vendors ($1,000); Sponsorship ($1,000). Our entries should take care of paying for the judges and the hotel. The contract with the Dome was distributed and reviewed. Set up will take place on June 23rd with take down after the show on June 26th. Holly will ask if we can have until 7pm to leave the Dome post-­‐show on the 26th. A deposit of $10,800 is due five days before the show. Genesee Valley Kennel Club Brags and Sobs
5 Brags: Marcy Kraus’ Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Ozzie is now CH Marchwind Dream Baby Dream. Ozzie finished his championship at the Newburgh, NY show in March. Susan Ratliffe’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Casey has earned his grand championship. He is GCH Whindancer’s Under the Wide and Starry Sky. The Balcerak’s Cairn Terrier Cairnforyou Marshall Dillon picked up three more points toward his American championship and needs just one point to finish. Kris Fletcher’s Lowchen Roseland Keep Smiling took WB at the Syracuse Show for one point. GCH Roseland Ashford’s Heartbreaker took select dog on Friday and Saturday for more bronze GCH points. Roseland Ink Spots took BOB on Wednesday and WD on Thursday for a total of two points. Angel Wings Maleficent V Roseland took WB on Saturday for two points.
