August Big Bingo!
August Big Bingo! Congratulations to Abbitt Holland and family! They
were the big winners of our third big bingo jackpot for this year. Abbitts
“BINGO” call could possibly have been heard throughout the community!
It was great to see him so excited and, being
the gentleman that he is, the winnings went
toward a charitable donation and a gift for
the whole family! Look for TWO big Bingo’s in
October!

Turf Care Corner
With the very warm dry weather and a full year of golf the course is really starting to show the wear. This
may be a good time to embrace a healthy alternative and play the game the way some say was meant to be
played, WALK. The true traditionalists say if you’re not walking your playing cart golf not real golf. Some
reasons for walking on the golf course, exercise, it’s been estimated that walking with a light bag provides
twice the caloric expenditure as riding. Another study found that walking significantly reduces lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol levels and improves the ratio of total cholesterol to high density lipoprotein
cholesterol. Enjoy the course more, A player who rides between strokes cannot fully appreciate the quality
and beauty of the golf course. Enjoy the company of your partner, when riding a cart the conversation
and enjoyment of you company is less than one third of the conversation while walking. Play better and
become a better golfer, golf is a game of rhythm and walking helps you keep in rhythm, watch your shots
more closely and think of your next shot strategy, less driving around looking for your ball, the yardage
markers and deciding which club to play. Damage to the golf course, the number one problem with golf
course conditioning is compaction; the two main culprits are golf carts and machinery. Compaction ads to
hotspots, thin wear areas, tracked out wet areas, and heat stress tracks, all need more water, fertilizer, seed
and overall general attention. I have cut in walking paths in the native areas between tees and fairways to
facilitate and easier and enjoyable rout. I am not saying to abandon the carts all together, just give walking
a shot you may find Pradera is not as hard to walk as is seems, you may also find you will play and feel
better. A special person once sent me some quotes on what a work out does for you. A workout makes you
better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes the mind and toughens the spirit.
Workout regularly, your problems diminish and your confidence grows. A workout is a form of rebirth.
When you finish you don’t simply feel better, you feel better about yourself. That sounds like a better
way to improve your game and your health, give it a try.
Thank You,
H. Dean Lindsey
