GRAND LAKE has once again
risen to the challenge of excellence.
School Report Card Data was distributed in December, and Grand Lake
School earned a score of 99.0 which
is an increase over the 2013-2014
school year score of 98.7. The score
earned Grand Lake the letter grade of
“B” (100 and higher is an “A” school).
Star Math and Reading results show
that, on average, students in elementary have improved 0.9 grade level in
math and 0.8 grade level in reading
since the beginning of the year.
Parental involvement in school activities continue to impress. The Veterans Day Program included many special guests from the community and
special musical demonstrations by
the Grand Lake Elementary students.
In addition, the annual Christmas
Program filled the gymnasium to
capacity while our Pre-Kindergarten
through third grade students sang
traditional Christmas favorites. Several parents attended parent night
where they learned more information regarding the PARCC results.

is PROUD to be a
Mustang: Positive, Respectful, Outstanding, Understanding, Dedicated.
HHS is PROUD of the academic success our students have achieved.
Our school continues to be a “B”
school. Our overall ACT scores have
continued to increase.
We are PROUD of our student organizations on campus and their service
to the community and the surrounding areas. The 4-H Club at Hackberry
has participated in several community service activities during the first
semester. We donated and delivered
over 200 pounds of rice and canned
goods to Abraham’s Tent during the
month of September. Members also
worked at the Beach Sweep and
Beach Revitalization here on the
Cameron coastline. In October we
donated snack goods to those service men and women that protect
our homeland. And in November and
December, we worked with the US
Marine Corps and supported Toys
for Tots. Several members attended
the McNeese Homecoming football
game and others volunteered to help
at the toys distribution day. Our 4-H
members are showing that we can
“Lead by Example” and are Dedicated.
Hackberry is PROUD of our student
athletes. Our Boys Cross Country
team brought home its second state
title this fall. In December, our girls’
softball team and track team received their 2015 championship rings
at a dinner held in their honor.
We are continuing to be the center
of activity for our community. We
were PROUD to honor our local veterans with a breakfast and program
for Veteran’s Day. We also had a Parent’s Night which focused on PARCC
results and math expectations for
elementary and middle school students. Families attending the program received free admission to the
home basketball game to support
our Lady Mustangs. Our elementary
Mustangs showed their small town
Christmas spirit with a Christmas vocal performance by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th,
and 5th graders. Santa even made a
visit afterwards. We hope to continue
to be the center of and supported by
the beautiful community of Hackberry, Louisiana.

JBHS’ Fall activities were a huge success. The first week of October saw
students participating in various
fundraising activities to promote
Breast Cancer Awareness. The following week Pre-k and Kindergarten students, teachers, and parents enjoyed
an afternoon at the Pumpkin Patch in
Sulphur. Fire Safety lit up the third
week as students participated in a fire
prevention clown show sponsored
by the Sulphur Fire Department. A
Fall Festival Dance, sponsored by the
PTO, promoted friendship and fellowship. The final week’s theme was
directed at promoting a drug free
lifestyle. The theme, “Respect Yourself”, was emphasized through daily
activities. JBHS also had a very successful Book Fair during the month
of October.
In November, 4-H members organized a food drive for homeless
veterans. A truckload of goods was
collected and delivered to the City of
Refuge Homeless Veteran’s Shelter in
Vinton, LA. A Veterans Day Program
was also held to honor all veterans.
Classes performed skits and sang
songs honoring those present.
Starting off the month of December, grades 4 – 12 participated in the
annual Science Fair. Students were
interviewed by local industry representatives. The Christmas spirit soon
filled the halls as the PTO opened
its Christmas Store to students and
parents. As children experienced the
joyful gift of giving, they also learned
budgeting skills as well. JBHS was excited to hold its first Christmas Program since 2005 on December 14.
This program was combined with
Family Night. A presentation was given to parents which identified components of the 2014-2015 PARCC English and math student reports. The
presentation also provided parents
with a better understanding of how
the PARCC assessments and student
reports provide a deeper level of information about student learning.
Parents also learned how to identify the areas in each subject where a
student is doing well and where he or
she needs additional support.
Congratulations for a job well done
to the 4th and 7th grade classes for
scoring the highest in English and
math parish wide on the Louisiana

team has five seniors: Tate Savoie,
Joseph Broussard, Cavan Duhon, Tyler Lavergne, and manager Benjamin
Meistrell. The boys have come out
strong with a 6-6 record that includes
a win over the Hathaway Hornets.

proved this summer and throughout
our non-district schedule that we can
play with some of the best teams in
our division. Leadership, focus, and
competing every night will determine
how well we finish the season.” The
girls’ basketball team has two seniors: Darien Boudreaux and Ally
Thomas. The girls defeated Hamilton
Christian in one of their first district
games.
Coach Ancil Delaney commented on
his Cross Country Team, “Both the
boys and girls cross country teams
performed well at the state meet.
They both placed better than last
year.” The following students will be
participating in several Indoor Track
Meets at McNeese State University
in January: Allison Ross, Brandi Hansard, Cameron Granger, Ashlyn Tate,
and Samantha Beaudeaux.
Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) has kicked off this year’s
