We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love
through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service.
Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit,
embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action.
As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church,
waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.
Weekly Reflection
Our loving intermediary
Nuestro intermediario amoroso
Today’s readings focus on the importance of the role of
Jesus as the intermediary between God and man. In
the reading from Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the
Israelites that they had requested of the Lord God at
Horeb, “Let us not again hear the voice of the Lord, our
God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.” The
people of biblical days lived in true awe and fear of
God. This fear was so profound that they wanted an
intermediary to negotiate their relationship with the Almighty. The Lord answered this request telling Moses,
“This was well said, I will raise up for them a prophet
like you from among their kin, and will put my words
into his mouth; he shall tell them all that I command
him.” God honored this promise and throughout the
years sent many prophets, the last being John the Baptist. Today’s gospel tells of the fulfillment of all the prophets’ foretelling of
the ultimate intermediary, the Messiah. John the Baptist had identified
Jesus as, “the one mightier than I
[who] is coming after me. I am not
worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs
of his sandals.” Mark’s gospel records
the recognition of Jesus by the unclean spirit who cries, “Have you
come to destroy us? I know who you
are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus is
indeed the Holy One of God. He is
the promised Savior, the one who
brings us back to Abba, our Father.
He has taken away the fear. He has
given us the confidence to pray, “Let
your face shine on your servant[s].
Save
[us]
in
your
merciful
love” (Communion Antiphon).
incendio; no quiero morir.”
¿Has venido a acabar con nosotros? Sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios.” Jesús es verdaderamente el bendito de
Dios.

World Day of the Sick Mass
February 11, 2015
Pope John Paul II designated February 11th as World
Day of the Sick, "a special time of prayer and sharing, of
offering one's suffering for the good of the Church and of
reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face
of Christ who, by suffering, dying and rising, achieved the
salvation of the human race." Our Lady of the Assumption will be celebrating Mass with Anointing of the Sick on
Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at noon. All are welcome.

Parish News
First Friday
The First Friday Devotions are a set of Catholic devotions to especially recognize the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and through it offer reparations for sins.On these days, a person is to
attend Holy Mass and receive communion. If the need
arises in order to receive communion in a state of grace,
a person should also make use of the Sacrament of Penance before attending Mass. In many Catholic communities the practice of the Holy Hour of meditation during the
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament during the First Fridays is encouraged. First Friday Masses are offered at
6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Benediction, Adoration and Confession will follow the 5:15 p.m. Mass.
There is a small reception after the 6:30 a.m. and 8:00
a.m. masses in the rectory garden.
Together in Mission
Our Holy Father Pope Francis has enlivened the Church to renew our spirit of evangelization. Through their ministries and education supported by funds provided by Together in Mission, recipient parishes and schools are doing just that, reaching out to their communities and making the message of God’s love known to those around
them. The funds we collect will directly benefit more than
250,000 of our Catholic brethren, and ensure our parishes and schools remain centers of faith and hope for their
surrounding communities. Archbishop Gomez will soon
be sending letters to those that have generously given to
Together in Mission in the past. If you receive this letter,
we ask you renew your support. May God bless you for
your generous support of this year’s appeal.
The Tidings
If you would like to receive the Tidings
newspaper (free of charge) please contact Lauren Burns at (805) 642-7966 ext.

Did You Know?
How to Report Inappropriate or Illegal Content
on the Internet
One of the main reasons that children do
not report the inappropriate content they
find online is fear of punishment from parents. If you let them know that it is not
their fault if they come across an inappropriate site, they will be more willing to
come to you when it happens. If your children ever show
you a site that contains illegal behavior, such as pornographic images of children, contact your Internet service
provider and the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com. - 5-

www.cybertipline.com.
