MARCH 2016
Dear Friends,
Repentance from sin is the focus in the Lenten Season. In some of the Lenten worship services
centuries ago, the sentence was used in liturgy, “Repent and believe the Gospel”.
Boynton United Methodist Church
4246 Boynton Drive
RINGGOLD GA 30736
I am reading through the Bible using an annual plan that our Bishop has promoted some years ago. It
is a ‘straight-read-through,’ about three chapters a day, basically. For the last several weeks I’ve read through
Leviticus and now I am about to finish the book of Numbers. There’s a lot of material about animal sacrifices
for the forgiveness of sin in these chapters. The point is driven home that the ancient Israelites considered
this to be serious business. It is.
Compare this to how superficially we sometimes treat ‘sin’ and ‘repentance.’ Someone might say or
think: Don’t worry too much about it. Go ahead and do it, and just pray for forgiveness at the end of the day.
God knows when repentance is real or not. It is more than being sorry that you got caught, or might get
caught (by God). It is remorse over the act/attitude; and most important, it is a genuine decision to quit the
sin. We need to be in a state of repentance when we ask for forgiveness.
Forgiveness is wonderful. We rejoice when others choose to profess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
They are forgiven and they are in relationship with Christ which includes eternal life. They are changed people
whom God uses to change the world. It was such a time of celebration when nine young people in our church
choose Christ, and were confirmed several weeks ago. Trusting Jesus and following His path is awesome.
Use the Season of Lent to do some serious repenting. There may be some areas we don’t want to
think about. But if we do, and end up doing some real repentance, along with receiving forgiveness we will
come into some of that abundant life Jesus spoke of.

Sanctuary renovation continues to move forward. On Wednesday,
February 17, 2016, our committee selected a paint contractor and
color for the Sanctuary. Tru Pro Painting will start painting the
sanctuary on February 29, 2016. This project should take six days.
I would like to thank our church members for their support of both
projects.

WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT !!!
CONFIRMATION
We are delighted to announce a new wedding has taken place within
our congregation. Jerry Lowery and Linda Osterhus married on
February 7 at the parsonage. Later that week the couple left for a
short trip in the New Orleans area.
The last four of the nine young people who had gone through
confirmation classes were confirmed and brought into the
membership of the church on Sunday, February 7: Elias Gentry,
Sydney Logan, Noah McGaughey, and Matthew McGaughey.
We are happy for them and wish them lots of happiness.
Young people who had been confirmed the previous Sunday stood
with these who were confirmed on February 7 .

Who Benefits from Stephen Ministry?
Wednesdays 5:00 p.m.
The Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders benefit. Although they
participate in this ministry out of a desire to serve and care for
others, they encounter tremendous growth themselves. Because of
confidentiality they cannot tell you who their care receivers were or
what happened, but they can tell you how much they have grown,
personally and spiritually, be seeing Jesus work through them to
change the life of another person.
Room Across from the Nursery
We pack over 100 sacks of food every week to be distributed to
students in need at Boynton Elementary School, Heritage Middle
School and the Performance Learning Center. Thanks to generous
contributions from several people, BLESS (Building Lives: Every
Snack Sack) is fully funded for this school year.
Summer Mission Trip
We are working with other churches to
go this June to Nicaragua (June 10 - 18).
If you are interested, now is the time to
begin making plans. Please contact
Jarrett & Sheri Eschenfelder at 615-3365508.
Christ’s Chapel Share & Care
Mission is in need of spaghetti
sauce and noodles, all types of
pasta and tomato sauce during
the months of March and April.
Please leave items under the
mailboxes in the hallway across
from the women’s restroom.
The February meeting of the United Methodist Women was held in
Heritage Hall with 11 members present. Patty Bishop presented a
program on hunger.
Andrea Sims, president led the meeting and plans were made for a
Spring Bazaar on Saturday, April 16. We will have items made by
artisans from all over the world. Proceeds from this fair trade
consignment sale will go to the artisans. At the same time we invite
the local craftsman to purchase a $25 table to sell their crafts, and
will also have a bake sale with the proceeds of these two items going
to help fund this year’s Vacation Bible School.
Seven women from our church will be attending a district Spiritual
Growth Retreat March 5 and 6 at Hinton Rural Life Center. A Lenten
Day Apart will be held on March 13 at Tunnel Hill UMC.
Our next meeting will be March 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Heritage Hall. We
invite all women of the church to join us for mission education, a
special program, prayer time and food and fellowship.
Our UM Men will prepare breakfast after our Sunrise Service
on Easter Sunday, March 27 at 8:15 a.m. in Heritage Hall.
