Pursuing a project in a field linked to an area of your academic interest can help your university applications. WHAT WILL I STUDY? The great thing about this qualification is that you get to choose a topic area that you wish to study – this can be linked to an A Level subject, something you wish to study at university or something that interests you personally. This will lead to you producing a final piece of work which can be an extended essay, report of an investigation, performance or artefact (e.g. a short film, website or artwork). To gain the EPQ you will need to carry out independent research and with the help of a tutor, plan, manage and review your project. 37 EPQ | SIR JOHN DEANE’S COLLEGE EPQ | SIR JOHN DEANE’S COLLEGE EPQ “SJD helps stretch you academically – I have completed the EPQ which has taught me research skills and how to work independently. Teachers are always there to give extra help and there is a really friendly atmosphere.” – Katie Griffiths Middlewich High School CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES? WHERE MIGHT IT LEAD?
