The Hunt for the Most I
Ridiculously Lavish Spa
Treatments in Town
+ Writing | Teri Miyahira
magine being dipped in diamonds, coated
in caviar, wrapped in paraffin and bathed in
rose petals — all in the name of beauty. We did.
In honor of 944’s Beauty and Fitness Issue, we
gave ourselves the arduous challenge of hunting
down the most extravagant, indulgent, überlavish spa treatments in San Diego. This roundup
of pampering rituals is so over the top, you might
feel a little guilty indulging —
 but you’ll get over
it, trust us.
Diamond Glow Facial
Spa Velia
Diamonds aren’t just a girl’s best friend.
This non-particle, non-invasive, pain-free
microdermabrasion requires no downtime
afterwards — perfect for the on-the-go types. It
uses natural diamond-embedded wands in lieu
of traditional abrasive particles to exfoliate the
skin. This minimizes the appearance of lines,
age spots and scarring, leaving you soft and
glowing without being harsh to sensitive skin. 50
minutes, $160.

Napa Valley Ritual
The Spa at Torrey Pines
Who says that Napa Valley is only good for a
glass of wine? Grape seeds taken straight from
the vineyards of Napa are maximized because
of its antioxidant and anti-aging capabilities.
Begin with a warm grape seed soak in the
hydrotherapy tub while moisturizing the skin
with cold-pressed grape seed oil. A Cabernet
Passion Fruit French clay is applied to absorb
impurities while also toning the skin. Finish
with a grape seed and green tea body butter. 140
minutes, starting at $295.

Rejuvenating Rose Bath
The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Aviara
This is probably the prettiest treatment you’ll ever
have. It starts with a relaxing bath in a blanket
of rose petals before your body is wrapped with
nourishing rose essential oil. While you’re body
is soaking in floral goodness, your face will be
getting first-class treatment with a rose petal
facial massage. This might be better than a dozen
buds in bloom. 80 minutes, $205.

Paraffin Body Wrap
The Spa at Santaluz
Super-hydrating paraffin wax is good for
more than just your hands and feet. Start the
body indulgence with a dry brushing and thick
moisturizer application. Then, prepare to have
warm paraffin draped all over the body before
you’re wrapped in a thermal blanket — perfect
for soothing aching muscles. Tucked away in
the Santaluz Clubhouse & Spa, the spa is
exclusive only to members and their guests.

specialized Eye Opener Contour
Artesia Day Spa & Salon
After partying hard all holiday season long,
the Eye Opener Contour specifically targets
the often forgot-about eye area to reduce dark
circles, uneven skin texture and wrinkles to
refresh tired peepers. Start with a warm mist
of five botanical essential oils, followed by a
plant-based soft gel peel and micro-peeling
exfoliation. Next is a personalized massage
including drainage, acupressure and microstimulation to reduce puffiness — it also helps to
smooth wrinkles and soften under-eye circles. It
finishes off with a treatment mask, during which
the eyes are covered during the treatment. $60
alone, or $40 when added to any facial.

smoother, while the AcuLift Massage will superhydrate the skin. You might just come out looking a

Avocado-Cilantro Body Masque
The Spa at La Costa
This sanctuary, located at the La Costa Resort and
Spa, offers a body masque that’s good enough to eat.
Avocados contain essential fatty acids and natural
plant lipids to build a protective barrier on the skin
to help retain moisture. This treatment begins with
an exfoliation using avocado stone and kiwi seed
granules. A body masque of avocado oil, cilantro,
aloe vera and Kaolin clay is then applied to draw out
impurities, before the body is wrapped to release
toxins and absorb the oils and aloe. A massage with
lotion containing avocado oil, sweet almond oil and
essences of lavender, chamomile and lemon balm
will melt away stress. 100 minutes, $295.
