Mule 4010 Diesel Trans
The 4000 Series
Tough, powerful partners since their inception, Kawasaki MULE utility vehicles offer the high dependability,
superb off-road performance, incredible flexibility and rugged good looks to make them the partner of
choice for farm owners, industrial sites, and many other applications. With new styling and a host of new
features, the MULE 4000 Series marks the next evolutionary step in the MULE concept.
Electric power steering is now featured on all 4000 series 4WD models. This speed-sensitive system offers
natural handling at all times.
The 4010 Diesel Trans 4x4
Enabling fuel compatibility amongst workplace machines, Kawasaki’s diesel MULEs are well suited for use
in working environments where diesel is the primary fuel, such as in agriculture, underground mining, inside
factories and construction sites. The hardy Mule 4010 Diesel 4x4 and Diesel Trans4x4 also represent
practical choices for more traditional utility vehicle users who simply wish to opt for the lower operating
costs, durability and reliability that a diesel-powered vehicle offers. Whether for industrial or general usage,
the diesel MULEs meet the needs of a broad range of utility vehicle customers.
Engine
Hthe MULE 4010 Diesel 4x4 and Diesel Trans4x4 are powered by a 953 cc,
4-stroke, OHV, 3-cylinder diesel engine which develops a high level of low-rpm
torque, making it ideal for towing heavy loads and performing other low-speed,
high-load work.
HLiquid-cooled engine ensures optimum operating temperatures, either while
working hard or idling for extended periods. Ideal for stop-go applications, with
low fuel costs and efficient cooling negating the need to constantly turn off and
restart the engine.
HLarge diameter cooling hoses and pipes are used for low resistance in the
coolant passageways.
HA cyclone-airflow-type air cleaner draws air from one of two snorkel intakes in
the tubing of the overhead frame to provide the engine with a steady supply of
clean air, even in dusty operating conditions.
The second intake supplies cooling air to the CVT.
Transmssion
HBelt-driven automatic transmission with a Hi-Lo dual-range transfer case and selectable 4WD with
manually operated differential lock for high versatility.
HLightweight CVT system features a cover with a trim seal for water and mud resistance.
HA belt-deflection adjuster reduces maintenance and a double-cogged belt reduces flex wear.
HCVT air cleaner with easily replaceable filter element reduces CVT wear by cooling it with filtered air taken
in through the overhead frame.
Chassis
HLadder-type tubular steel frame features reinforced gussetting and shock mounting brackets for high load
capacity and great durability.
HAckerman rack-and-pinion steering provides precise, easy handling, and a tight turning radius while
reducing tyre wear.
HLimited-slip front differential allows great traction with low steering effort.
HDual-mode rear differential provides maximum traction when in locked mode and minimises ground
disturbance when unlocked.
HCargo bed features a two-lever tailgate release system for easy opening and closing.
HLarge plastic fuel tank gives the fuel-efficient 4000 Series Mules a great operating range.
Suspension
HFront suspension selected to prevent bottoming-out under full load without sacrificing ride comfort.
HIndependent MacPherson strut-type suspension allows each wheel to track over uneven ground for
maximum traction with light steering effort.
HDe Dion overload-style rear suspension allows good unladen ride, yet is rugged and durable under
maximum loads.
Brakes/Wheels/Tyres
HFront and rear brake drum seals are triple-ribbed for water and mud resistance.
HRear wheel incorporates a sealed double-bearing unit for durability and water and mud resistance.
HBeefy 23" tyres provide great off-road traction, ensure ample ground clearance and complement
the rugged styling.
Electronic Power Steering
HThe electric power steering (EPS) system works best when you need it most: at extremely slow
speeds and when stopped. Turning the wheel causes a signal to be sent to the EPS ECU
(Electronic Control Unit), initiating assistance. The ECU uses input from a vehicle speed sensor and torque
sensor to determine the amount of steering assistance required from the system’s electric motor.
At slow speeds or when stopped, assistance is greatest; assistance is reduced as vehicle speed increases
to ensure stable handling.
HThe EPS system also enhances ride comfort and control by acting as a damping system.
The inertia of the electric motor significantly reduces bump steer and kickback to the steering wheel caused
by shocks to the wheels.
HSince the system is electric, it works immediately, without the time lag sometimes associated with
hydraulic systems that, when the engine is first started, require time to pump engine oil to the power steering
system.
HAdditionally, since the system is independent from the engine, it will function with the engine off
(as long as the key is in the “ON” position). (Please note that continuous use of the EPS system with the
engine off will drain the battery.)
Hbecause the EPS system does not rely on oil pumped from the engine, there is no engine power
loss — all engine power can be sent to the wheels. Fuel efficiency is also uncompromised.
