INSPIRATION came from the need to encourage summer reading with limited time and limited resources. COLLABORATION resulted in a plan! • 7-­‐week program o One orientation meeting, periodic come-­‐and-­‐go meetings to check books in and out, and one final “celebration” meeting • Sell the program! o To administration o Students, and parents § Conduct on-­‐campus recruitment ** • Use Edmodo as the platform to deliver information – It is free, easy, engaging, connects to students, and will house resources effectively. • Meetings to be held at Meadows Public Library – Great location; free; access to computers and other resources; promotes community involvement and supports the public library. • What about resources? ….Share books through ILL • Responsibilities divided among librarians **Copies of handout and permission form attached

We are pleased to announce this summer’s Virtually Blooming Bluebonnet Camp!
This camp is designed with busy schedules in mind and is absolutely FREE for
students currently in grades 2, 3, or 4 and attending any Midlothian I.S.D. Elementary
School.
We will have a 2-hour introduction at A.H. Meadows Library on June ----, 2014. We
are offering three possible times for orientation—9:00-11:00, 12:00-2:00 and 2:00-4:00.
Please indicate which time slot you would like to attend on the attached permission
slip. The time will be used for the campers to log in, create a password, discuss
digital citizenship and etiquette, learn how to use the Edmodo site, and even have
time for a Bluebonnet activity to jumpstart their summer reading.
After our initial 2-hour orientation, campers will virtually communicate with the camp
counselors through an online program called Edmodo.** Librarians and teachers will
post videos, questions, polls and other interesting topics to keep students reading
and engaged. Every two weeks, campers will be given the opportunity to exchange
books at A.H. Meadows. All dates, times, locations and incentives will be given at the
orientation meeting on June ----*Students who do not have Internet access will be encouraged to use the A.H.
Meadows Library

The camp will continue until August ----Through this camp we hope to provide students the opportunity to learn about this
year’s Bluebonnet Books through a closed, virtual class, while meeting other students
in MISD who share the same desire to read.

Virtually Blooming Bluebonnet Camp Bluebonnet Book Summer Program
Facilitated by MISD Librarians
The MISD Elementary Bluebonnet Summer Program, facilitated by MISD librarians, will begin June 11 at
Meadows Library and continue Until August 2, 2013. This program will be primarily an online program,
utilizing Edmodo** to discuss books and participate in activities. It is an “online” book club. In addition
to online communication, participants may meet campus librarians at Meadows Library on designated
dates to check out books from the Bluebonnet list. (See flyer for more details.)
**Edmodo is a free, secure, social learning platform for teachers, students, and parents. This tool
provides teachers and students with a secure and easy way to post information, share links and videos,
and collaborate in other ways. The teacher is able to oversee all the conversations and posts. Edmodo
will act as a communication and support link between the teacher students, and parents. Discussions,
dates, and activities will all be found on this website. If you are interested, you may review Edmodo’s
privacy policy with your child. It is found at the following website:

visit www.edmodo.com . Please know that facilitators of this program will moderate all student postings
before they are visible to students. Also, only participants of the program and their parents will be
provided the group code, which allows access to the information.
