New Acting Mayor
Officials Inaugural Meeting at City Hall
As the official positions of Pattaya Mayor, Deputy Mayors and
City Hall Councilors came to an historic end on 16th June, the first
general meeting of government approved civil servants took place
on 20th June in the conference room at City Hall. A total of 400
uniformed officials gathered to meet up with the new Acting Mayor
Mr. Nattapong Sriviset, and to welcome him to the post until a new
Constitution is finalized and official election is held nationwide,
which is due in 2017. Mr. Sriviset is no stranger to City Hall,
having the official role of being City Manager, also known in Thai
as “Palad”. This is a non elected public servant position, whose
task is to take on the role of Acting Mayor for a limited period
during normal elections. The role has now been extended for a
period of time after a decree by the government.
During the inaugural meeting the Acting Mayor discussed his policies for running and developing the administration in Pattaya with
the help of 12 official experts nominated by the government in
Bangkok. These include maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the city including transport and helping new businesses in
the area. He also discussed strengthening the police force network with the help of the Tourist Police, Immigration and the new
Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, Police Colonel Apichai
Krobpetch in cracking down on crime, especially drug related incidents. The safety of all tourists visiting the city and expats living
in Pattaya will be given precedence. Plus maintaining a positive
reputation for Pattaya as a family orientated holiday destination
will also be given priority for the new council members.

ACQUA ITALIAN RESTAURANT
The outstanding chic Acqua Italian Restaurant is one of the signature restaurants at the captivating first themed resort in
Pattaya, the 5 star Centara
Grand Mirage Pattaya Beach
Resort located on Wong Amat
Beach, in North Pattaya. We
have reviewed this brilliant restaurant twice before, when it
opened in 2010 and again in
2011 with the appearance of
(the then) new Master Chef,
Alberto Bruni from Tuscany, in
Northern Italy. So we returned
to find out what is new. Things
are certainly on the move again,
with the maestro himself, Chef
Alberto using his personal and
unique style as he is about to
release his latest gastronomic
menu. We had the distinction
of being the first to see and try
what surprises he has come up
with to beat his other memorable creations.
Chef Alberto invited us to try a
few of the dishes being prepared for his new menu of distinctive Modern (and Classic)
Italian Cuisine that has an emphasis on fresh Seafood, with
many of the top quality ingredients exclusively imported from
Italy. The first dish to arrive
will be on the new menu – Tuna
Carpaccio, top quality slices of
broiled Sesame coated Akame
Tuna served with Mango and
Salmon Caviar. Then it was on
to one of Alberto’s signature
dishes which is always in demand, and will remain on the
menu – Spaghetti with Maine
Lobster. Sounds simple, but this
is a beautifully presented dish
of delicious Maine Lobster meat
mixed into perfectly cooked al
dente Spaghetti, and is enough
for two as a starter. As one of
our team is allergic to Seafood,
Alberto quickly conjured up another Pasta dish, a rustic Tuscan
dish of Rigatoni with a deliciously
smooth Pork Sausage, Tomato
and Mushroom Cream Sauce.
One new dish is Capesante
Scootate (Sea Scallops with
Squid Ink Risotto). With expert
panache and speed Alberto conjured up this delicate dish, oozing with tantalizing aromas.
Two perfectly flame finished
succulent Scallops mounted on
a bed of squid ink Italian Rice.
To end this gastronomic experience we had to try two of
Alberto’s superb Desserts – a
super tempting classic Sicilian
style Cannoli (Pastry Tube) filled
with Ricotta Cheese and fresh
Berries, and what can only be
described as the perfect Italian
dessert, a dreamy rich, smooth
and creamy Panna Cotta, also
served with fresh Berries. Divine! Chef Alberto with his personal motto of “if you want to
make it really good, do it with
passion”, has certainly brought
his personal touch of La Dolce
Vita to the Centara Grand Mirage Resort and the surrounding fashionable area of Wong
Amat. Buon Appetito!
Acqua is located near the main
Lobby and Reception and is
open every day from 6pm to
10.30pm. Telephone: 038 301

Based on the gate count,
Bangkok’s Grand Palace draws
8 million visitors a year making it
the eighth most visited attraction in Asia and 40 th in the

tional visitors,” said Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Governor,
Yuthasak Supasorn.
At the other end of the scale,
the Grand Bazaar Istanbul, Turkey, topped the global list with
an astonishing 91.25 million visits.
The Zocalo in Mexico City was
second generating 85 million visits and Times Square, New York
City third with 50 million.
Results were based on either
visitor ticket sales, or visit estimates sourced from attraction
management, government
agencies, industry reports and
media. In most cases the study
adopted the 2013 data.
In the list’s preamble, T+L editors said attractions were “de-
fined as cultural and historical
sites, national landmarks, and
officially designated spaces.”
They omitted beaches, bridges,
and sites that draw almost exclusively religious pilgrims.
Bangkok’s Grand Palace, built in
1782, is one of Thailand’s most
revered heritage sites. It was
the official residence and seat
of government for monarchs of
the Chakri Dynasty for over 150
years.
The iconic, riverfront palace
shared the 40th place with two
other attractions that claimed 8
million annual visits: Smithsonian
National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC and Pier
39 in San Francisco.

Event
Teachers Day is a special day
for students to appreciate their
teachers. In Thailand the occasion known as Wan Kru – which
is not a national holiday – is cel-
vulnerable transnational young
people and children that land up
in places like Pattaya in search
of a better life. The Foundation
has set up centres with the help
of Rotary and the German Embassy in Bangkok; they are the
Child Protection and Development Center and the Children’s
Shelter to help young people
who have been abused. Another new project is the Asean
Education Centre aimed at educating children of foreign construction workers in Thailand,
especially those from Myanmar
and Cambodia.
Annual Check Up
Hospital
Maintenance
Programme
This week, engineering and maintenance staff from Banglamung
Hospital paid a visit to a number
of hospitals in Pattaya, both
public and private to do their
annual maintenance check on
operating vehicles such as ambulances and trucks and make
sure equipment was up to date
and to a high standard. First on
the list was the Sawang
Boriboon Foundation in Naklua
where the conditions of all ambulances were checked for any
faults, and that all equipment
was up to standard. The team
then made their way to Pattaya
Memorial Hospital, International
Hospital, Pattaya City Hospital
and Bangkok Hospital Pattaya
ebrated in January. However,
for the teachers of Potisampan
School in Naklua, teachers received the respects from students a second time this year.
On Saturday, 18th June, the Wan
Kru ceremony was held in the
school grounds with students
gathering to appreciate and
thank their teachers for their
work by presenting flowers and
putting on a traditional Thai
dance show for all to enjoy.

Club Fight
Security Guards Accused of
Fighting
Pattaya police received a visit
from 27 year old Mr. Anant
Yongwat to report that he and
his friends had been beaten up
by security guards at a night
club on Third Road in North
Pa tt aya.
Apparently, the
drunken man bumped into another person whilst leaving. He
apologized but suddenly was set
upon by a security guard who
punched him. His friends came
to his aid but apparently another

gang of security guards came
forward and a fight broke out.
Anant made the statement that
he and his friends did not start
the fight. A report was made
and an investigation set up to
solve the incident.
Questionable Story
Video Clip Goes Viral
It seems that uploading all manner of trivial incidents online is
the rage at the moment, especially those presenting Pattaya’s
reputation in a bad light. The
most recent was posted on You
Tube showing a clip of two men
fighting on a street in Pattaya.
The blood splattered scene
which was subtitled in English
showed a Middle Eastern man
fighting with a Thai man wielding a knife. The authorities are
investigating the incident and
question its validity and intention as to why it was posted on
the internet in the first place.
Chinese Tourists Abandoned and Robbed
Pattaya police were called out
this week to a hotel on Wong
Amat Beach in North Pattaya to
attend to an incident involving
Chinese tourists. Arriving at the
hotel, officers learnt that the 37
tourists had been dropped off
by two tour guides and told to
wait in the reception area. Then
one of the two guides ran off
with the group’s money to pay
for covering their accommodation. A spokesman for the group
told officers that they were on
a pre-paid package tour and
while they were on the bus, the
guides asked for more money
to cover hotel costs during their
stay. When the group complained to the reception, they
were told the hotel had not received payment for the rooms
and thus could not check into
their rooms until they contacted
the tour company to organise
payment. Instead of the staff
phoning the company, they
called the police to deal with the
group.
However, the police
sided with the group and phoned
the tour company in Bangkok to
arrange payment and thus the
group was allowed to go to their
rooms. In a follow up to the
story, Tourist Police announced
that they have arrested one of
the guides, 35 year old Ms
Nanthakan Kanhasin. She
stated that she had been hired
by the tour company to take
care of the group in Thailand and
that a Chinese man named Kun
handled the group’s finances.
Apparently, Kun told her to go
to her room and he would sort
out the check in for the tourists. She claimed she told the
receptionist not to give out room
keys until the payment had been
made and then went to her room
to sleep. She stated that next
morning, not knowing anything
about the incident involving the
police, took the group to Larn
Island for a trip and was arrested
when she returned. She stated
she knew nothing about the
other guide running off with the
group’s money. Officers told her
to help locate Kun, so she complied and phoned him and arranged a meeting. When he
turned up he was arrested. 26
year old Kun, real name Li Jinkun
confessed to act as a tour guide
but he had no valid work permit. He was charged with being
a foreigner working without a
license based on the Travel
Agency Business and Guide Act.
Nanthakan was charged with
allowing him to conduct the tour
on her behalf without checking
he had a work permit.

Investors to capitalise on post-Brexit opportunities...
whatever the result
Savvy investors will be capitalising on the post-Brexit referendum
volatility in global financial markets – whatever the outcome, affirms the boss of one of the world’s largest independent financial
advisory organisations.
The observation from Nigel Green, the founder and chief executive of deVere Group, which has more than $10bn under advice,
comes as the latest polls show that the vote on 23rd June will be
closer than most experts had predicted even several weeks ago.
Mr Green says: “Naturally, global financial markets fluctuate in
response to events such as referendums, general elections, and
other major geopolitical situations, both in the run-up and afterwards.
“But with the EU referendum being so close and therefore so
unpredictable, and with its outcome having such a far-reaching
and long-term impact, it is likely that the markets will react perhaps more than they would in other circumstances.
“It can be expected that investors will be capitalising on the postBrexit referendum volatility in global financial markets – whatever
the outcome.”
He continues: “They will be poised to take advantage of the anticipated fluctuations.
“Whilst some people are put-off investing because of volatility,
many of the most successful investors welcome it. This is because
profitable opportunities are found where there are fluctuations.
“Fluctuations can cause panic-selling and mis-pricing. High quality
equities can then, for example, become cheaper, meaning investors can top up their portfolios and/or take advantage of lower
entry points. This all, in turn, means greater potential returns.
“A recent instance of this scenario would be oil. Oil prices are now
up around 70 per cent since the beginning of the year.”
The deVere CEO goes on to say: “By their very nature, all markets are subject to volatility. A well-diversified portfolio and a
good fund manager will help investors capitalise on the opportunities that volatility brings and sidestep potential risks as and when

Mr Green concludes: “However the UK decides to vote on 23rd
June, and whatever the economic repercussions for Britain’s,
Europe’s and the global economies, savvy investors will find
ways to profit as the world readjusts to a post-Brexit referendum reality.”
Dividend payouts exceed pension deficits at FTSE firms
Britain’s blue chip firms are dishing out billions more in dividends
to shareholders despite shortfalls in their pension funds, deVere
Group reports.
Analysis from pension firm AJ Bell, shows that 54 FTSE 100
companies have shelled out £48bn to shareholders each year
over the past two years.
That’s almost equal to the total £52bn recorded deficit of their
combined pension schemes in 2014.
Russ Mould, investment director of AJ Bell said, “The plights of
BHS and Tata Steel have brought this into focus”.
He added, “There is a huge question for companies to answer
around whether they are adequately funding their pension
schemes in order to sustain the future pensions of their work
force”.
In May, information from the Pensions Regulator showed that,
during the past five years, shareholder payouts made by businesses with defined-benefit pensions had regularly exceeded the amount they spent in fixing their deficits.
It told companies that they need to play fair when balancing the need for profitability against protecting their staff’s
futures.
Executive director of regulatory policy at the Pensions
Regulator Andrew Warwick-Thompson, said: “It is important that employers treat their pension scheme fairly and
we expect trustees to question employers’ dividend policies where debt recovery contributions are constrained”.
That theme was backed up by Mr Mould, who said: “Management teams face difficult decisions around how to allocate capital to ensure profitable growth and sustainable
shareholder payouts”.
“Emerging holes in their pension schemes add another difficult dimension, but it is one that they cannot ignore,” he
added.
He pointed out that insufficient contributions to a pension
fund could leave the company with liabilities that could drag
on future performance and ultimately lead to staff receiving lower pensions if the business ran into difficulties and
entered administration.
China Builds World’s Most Powerful Computer
A new Chinese supercomputer has gained the status of the
world’s most powerful machine.
The 93 petaflop Sunway TaihuLight is installed at the National
Supercomputing Centre in Wuxi. At its peak, the computer can
perform around 93,000 trillion calculations per second.
It is twice as fast and three times as efficient as the previous
leader, Tianhe-2, also from China, said Top500 which released the
new list yesterday.
Its main applications include advanced manufacturing, weather
forecasting and big data analytics, wrote Jack Dongarra in a paper about the new machine.
It has more than 10.5 million locally-made processing cores and
40,960 nodes and runs on a Linux-based operating system.
For the first time since the list began, China has overtaken the US
with 167 computers in the top 500 while the US has 165.
“Considering that just 10 years ago, China claimed a mere 28
systems on the list, with none ranked in the top 30, the nation has
come further and faster than any other country in the history of
supercomputing,” said Top500.
The US has four supercomputers in the top 10 of the Top500 list,
while China has two which currently occupy the top two places.
The other positions in the top 10, published twice a year, are
occupied by machines from Japan, Switzerland, Germany and
Saudi Arabia.
“As a computer scientist it’s difficult writing software that can take
advantage of and control large numbers of computer cores,” said
Professor Les Carr from the University of Southampton.
“This is why supercomputers are restricted to specialised applications - you need very specialised computing needs to take advantage of them.”
“They are like extremely high-spec Grand Prix racing cars - they
are fantastic for racing on circuits, but they’re not great for travelling from London to Edinburgh.”
Facebook Investors Approve New Share Class
Facebook Inc. shareholders approved a plan to create a new
class of non-voting shares, a move aimed at letting Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg give away his wealth without surrendering control of the social media company he founded.
Facebook’s plan to issue two “Class C” shares for each Class A and
Class B share held by shareholders, in what is effectively a 3-for1 stock split, was approved by Facebook shareholders at the
company’s annual general meeting yesterday.
The Class C shares will be publicly traded under a new symbol.
Zuckerberg said in December that he intended to put 99% of his
Facebook shares into a new philanthropy project focusing on human potential and equality.
The creation of the Class C shares would allow Zuckerberg to sell
the non-voting stock, but keep the voting Class A and Class B
shares that would let him retain control of Facebook.
Zuckerberg plans on running Facebook “for a very long time”, the
32-year-old CEO told shareholders at a Q&A session at the AGM.
Shareholders also approved the continued contract of all the eight
board members, including billionaire investor Peter Thiel, who were
up for re-election.
Facebook announced the plan to create the new class of nonvoting shares on April 27. The approval of the plan was virtually
certain since Zuckerberg controls the co

Charles Dickens had Gout!
Dear Reader: Dr. William H.
van Ewijk, M.D., M.A. welcomes you in his weekly
column to the private access to research, underground cures and medical
treatments that most
people will never hear
about. You can look him up for
cutting edge protocols ranging
from heart health to cancer
treatments to arthritis and much
more. Visit his website
www.placenta-anticancer.info
or Facebook page Dr. William
Clinic Prana Gaya.
How many four-letter words
you know?
If you ever suffer from a gout
attack, you’ll find out pretty
quick - because you’ll use up
every single one of them,
maybe even a few you didn’t
even know you knew!
Lucky for you, letting loose with
some salty language actually
can help you cope with pain.
But when it comes to gout, there
are a few things you shouldn’t
bother with - and one of them is
the steroid drug that’s been
backed by a new study. Charles
Dickens’ creative genius has been
praised by fellow writers for comedy, prose style, unique characterizations. On the other
hand, Oscar
Wilde, Henry
James,
and Virginia
Woolf complained of a lack of
psychological depth, loose writing, and a vein of saccharine
sentimentalism!
The
term Dickensian is used to describe something that is reminiscent of Dickens and his writings,
such as poor social conditions or
comically repulsive characters,
which could be caused by the
heavy gout pain in his left big
toe.
Researchers claim that prednisolone is “just as effective” in treating those painful gout attacks as
the NSAID painkiller indometha-
cin or ibuprofen, but don’t be
too impressed.
The study didn’t even include a
placebo (a sugar pill), a basic
tenant of good science! And the
pain relief results between the
two treatments were so identical that even the lead author
admitted that it just might’ve
been what he called “the process of natural recovery” at
work.
Now, anyone who knows anything about scientific research
could tell you that the only way
to say for sure would be to include a placebo group.
Which - for reasons that are
beyond me - they didn’t.
Don’t be blinded by bad science.
If you’re going to recover “naturally” anyway, you shouldn’t
have to expose yourself to the
risks and side effects of drugs.
And with steroids, you run the
risk of anything from headaches
and dizziness to sleep distur-
bances, muscle weakness,
vomiting, irregular heartbeat,
seizures, and extreme mood
changes and confusion that are
so bad that you could lose contact with reality.
Cherries!
Here’s another four-letter word
for that kind of treatment: NO-P-E! I want to give you
something better, something
that will kick in right away and
that can even safely PREVENT
a gout attack from happening
in the first place, if you do it
right.
There’s one delicious natural
remedy that can do all of those
things at once: Cherries!
You see, those painful gout attacks come on when uric acid
crystallizes and crowds around
a joint, usually a big toe. But
cherries are packed with antiinflammatory phyto-nutrients
called anthocyanins that can
break up those crystals. A pity:
as cherries
are
very
expensive
in Thailand.
In fact, in a
2012 study,
either popping around
30 cherries
or knocking
back a glass
of cherry
extract during an attack cut the risk of a
future flare-up by more than a
third. And add 2000 milligram
of Vitamin C! If that does not
work take allopurinol.
Just be sure you use cherry
extract, not cherry “juice” which, in most cases, is actually
a blended drink containing little
cherry and a whole sugary mess
of other things. And remember:
Never toe the line!

‘Yes.’ So he said, “Then I’d like
to phone a friend.” And that’s
when the fight started.
James took his wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took his order first. “I’ll

“Nah, she can order for herself.”
And that’s when the fight
started.

Brutal Scene
Attack Update
Uzbekistan Attacker Arrested
In an update to the assault and
robbery of Ms Feruza from
Uzbekistan, police announced
the arrest of 49 year old Sukit
Vorarak. The Muay Thai boxing
trainer was picked up on the
beach at Bali Hai port with the
help of the Tourist Police. The
ex-jailbird with a history of assaults on women gave a completely different version of what
occurred at a short time hotel
on the 14th June. He claimed
that he offered her 1,000 baht
to go with him, which she
agreed. Apparently whilst they
were sleeping at the short time
hotel, she woke up and tried to
steal his money, which resulted
in them having an argument and
him punching her in the face,
and for good measure took her
bag and left the building. The
bag containing the woman’s
passport, mobile and room keys
was later recovered from his
rented room. He now faces
another day in court.
Mystery Man
Sex Attacker on the Run
Pattaya police was called out to
an apartment building after receiving a call from a woman that
she had just been subject to
sexual assault and was robbed
of 3,000 baht. At the building,
officers came upon the woman,
known only as May who stated
that whilst she was sleeping she
heard a noise outside and noticed a man come out of the dark
and attacked her, demanding
sex. She gave the excuse that
she was having a period and for
some reason he just grabbed her
scene, officers came upon the
victim, 32 year old Supot. He
stated that he was a street vendor and when he returned to
his truck, he discovered that
someone had broken in and
stole his amulet that was hang-
ficers with the help of the
Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team
found the woman who had been
brutally and sexually attacked.
The 32 year old hotel housekeeper was found by friends
calling to take her out and saw
her lying on the floor. They told
police she was having an affair
with a fellow worker, 62 year
old Mr. Somneuk. On studying
CCTV police showed Somneuk at
the scene prior to the attack
and as a result he is the main
suspect and a search is now on
to find him.

money and left. As she kept
changing her story about what
occurred police are suspicious of
the report. However, CCTV
footage in the area will be scrutinized in the hope of identifying the mystery man, who could
be a local resident.
Amulet Theft
Amulet Stolen from Truck
Pattaya police was called out to
an Outlet Mall in South Pattaya
after receiving a report that a
thief had broken into a man’s
pickup truck and stolen a valuable religious amulet. At the
Horrific Murder in NaJomtien
Na-Jomtien police were called
out to an apartment building in
the area after receiving a report that the body of a woman
had been discovered inside one
of the rooms on the ground

Iranian Robbed by Ladyboy
Pattaya police received a visit
from Mr. Javad Abadi this week
to notify them that he had just
been robbed of his expensive
gold necklace and diamond pen-
dant by a ladyboy. The 22 year
old Iranian stated that he was
walking on the beachfront towards Walking Street with
friends, when the ladyboy approached him and began his silly
romantic antics and at the same
time managed to get the gold
from around his neck. A report
was set up and CCTV footage in
the area will be screened to
identify the thief.
Suspicious Report
ing over the mirror. A report
was made and a fingerprint
sweep was made and CCTV
footage in the area will be
screened in the hope of identifying the thief.
Suspicion about Bar Raid
Reports
After receiving a report that a
number of bars on Walking
Street were operating out of
hours and employing underage
and foreign workers, police
went out to investigate. Just
after midnight, the team of officers, soldiers and volunteers
raided 5 bars along this popular
thoroughfare in South Pattaya.
IDs were scrutinized and all licenses and legal alcohol and
tobacco sales checked. However, as all bars had the correct
licenses and no underage or illegal workers were found, police believe that the report came
from some vindictive person,
probably a rival bar owner, who
wished to disrupt these venues,
sales and activities.

at the moment is a desire to be able to enjoy yourself more and the opportunity is there.
Looking at how other people do it could help.
NEXT WEEK FOR ARIES: (Born between 21st March & 20th April) A sudden realisation or
idea can come to you, especially with anything you have been thinking over since mid
June. Any sense of being limited by someone else’s needs or desires will now begin to turn
around. Up to mid July, you need to focus on things you want to put into place, perhaps
now with a different perspective.
NEXT WEEK FOR TAURUS: (Born between 21st April & 20th May) Someone else’s situation can begin to move forward and this could take some pressure or expectation off you
financially. You should focus on what you really want from life in the immediate term and
let the long term go for the moment. A good starting point is to think about developing
priorities that bring happiness.
NEXT WEEK FOR GEMINI: (Born between 21st May & 20th June) You will need to think
about your finances to mid July by realising this could bring a sudden change of personal
plans this week. Not avoiding detail of some description with daily routines needs to be
accepted and you could begin to find this easier. The opportunity for a bargain is likely but
be sure you are spending wisely.
NEXT WEEK FOR CANCER: (Born between 21st June & 22nd July) You could be in for a
surprise that will lead you to thinking quite differently about your personal situation up to
mid July with Mercury moving into your sign. There is much to enjoy and any attention
from somebody else has a strong element of intensity about it. You should look at ways of
coping with obligations effectively.
NEXT WEEK FOR LEO: (Born between 23rd July & 22nd August) There can be a turning
point with anything you intended to put into place early in the year that hasn’t quite
worked out yet. It would be wise to contemplate to mid July, mainly because you may
become aware of something different that could be beneficial. Part of this could be
deciding things for yourself rather than responding.
NEXT WEEK FOR VIRGO: (Born between 23rd August & 22nd September) Don’t ignore any
inventive suggestions that come your way to deal with obligations more effectively. It
could lead to a completely different view of your priorities to mid July. What can drive this
NEXT WEEK FOR LIBRA: (Born between 23rd September & 22nd October) Financial matters that haven’t been completely settled since early in the year will now have more
forward movement to early August. The opportunity to set new goals could suddenly
present itself this week. It will require serious attention up to mid July, when it comes to
commitments attached. You could enjoy it all though.
NEXT WEEK FOR SCORPIO: (Born between 23rd October & 21st November) Your new 2year cycle that in some ways had a false start early in the year will take shape from now
to early August. Hopefully you have not given up on yourself, though you may have
developed a changed view of what should be uppermost to aim for in the long term. Those
you can rely on will have become evident as well.
NEXT WEEK FOR SAGITTARIUS: (Born between 22nd November & 21st December) You
cannot escape a certain level of feeling held back or perhaps kept in the dark about
something. It is turning around though, but this may not be entirely evident. What
someone has to say could surprise you this week and then they could become secretive
to mid July. You can only rely on those who are openly supportive.
NEXT WEEK FOR CAPRICORN: (Born between 22nd December & 19th January) There is
much to involve you with other people. You could also discover, quite surprisingly, that
someone approves of you more than you realised. You will have clear vision of those you
want to be involved with into the future as well as any person you feel is better to cut ties
with. Involvement with a friend moves forward.
NEXT WEEK FOR AQUARIUS: (Born between 20th January & 18th February) Commitments you thought you were clear about early in the year that have drifted or gone
nowhere will now have a turn around. You can move forward on this score, once and for
all, from now to early August. There is a lot of detail you need to either get right or pay
attention to up to mid July. This could involve entitlements.
NEXT WEEK FOR PISCES: (Born between 19th February & 20th March) You could feel
lucky this week, which could include being very appreciative of what you have in life as
well as future opportunities open to you. There is someone who is willing to help you. You
could also feel more definite, even stronger, about your ability to set goals and move
towards them. There is definitely a turnaround.

Lieberman. Utilizing the litigation services of Thai and English speaking lawyers with experience in domestic and international law, for individuals

counsel for numerous established international companies.
Khun Michael will be giving legal advice here in this column
about the ever changing situation in regards to Thai Law and
keeping readers up to date with
the constant changing business
and social environment here in
Thailand.
Quite recently I have noticed a
rise in computer related crime,
whether it is a singular crime or
an act committed in a larger
crime. Such as the case of a married couple who were in the midst
of court proceedings for a divorce, the husband had accessed
his wife’s e-mail account on the
home computer. As it was their
home computer the wife had al-
ways saved the password for
easy use, this resulted in the
husband forwarding case sensitive files to his own e-mail account for use in court. This is of
course illegal and was the wrong
course of action taken by the
husband, which jeopardized the
divorce case as well as bringing
about a new criminal case.
Thailand’s Criminal Crime Act is
fairly new having only been established in 2007 and it covers
a broad range of computer related offences. The most com-

International Day of Yoga
An unusual event happened in
Pattaya, indeed a first for the
city, in that everyone was invited to take part in the International Day of Yoga. With the
help of City Hall and the Father
Ray Foundation, a meeting got
underway this week to publicise
the event, which took place in
the sunken area of Central Festival Pattaya Beach on the after-
noon of Tuesday, 21st June. It
was free to take part and
people joined hundreds of yoga
enthusiasts to celebrate this
ancient physical, mental and
spiritual practice.
mon include violating computer
protection or illegal access to a
computer system or computer
data, for example accessing a
computer system with protection which is not yours can be
subject to six months imprisonment and/or a ten thousand
baht fine. Illegally accessing
computer data such as files or
e-mails not belonging to you
also carries a punishment of two
years imprisonment and/or a
fine of forty thousand baht.
This act also covers the sending of any malicious computer
data either through electronic
mail or by other means, this includes forward mails, transfer
of viruses and the like.
As digital data transfer can in-
clude a variety of information the
punishment for violating this law
is a jail sentence of no longer than
ten years and/or a fine not more
than two hundred thousand
baht. This can affect businesses
as a company will be held responsible if it in any ways consents to
a violation committed on a company owned computer system
and will be subject to the same
penalty as the perpetrator. The
computer crime act also covers
cyber defamation; where any
person who makes publicly accessible computer data wherein a
third parties picture appears edited in a way that can cause damage to that party’s reputation is
subject to no longer than three
years imprisonment and/or a fine
of not more than sixty thousand baht.
The Computer Crime Act is a
new act which is very broad
and not well defined, by knowing what is and isn’t punishable
by law you can ensure your
daily computer activities are not
putting you at risk. Be careful
when interacting with computer
data of which you don’t know
the source of and always stay
on your guard. If you have any

Music at Eelswamp
Eelswamp will present Chinese virtuoso pianist Eva
Shen performing an all Russian programme on Sunday, 3rd July at 5pm.
Scriabin: 24 Preludes Op.11
Although modelled on Chopin’s
24 Preludes, this work is highly
original and one of Scriabin’s
most popular early works. Eva
recorded these preludes on Bel
Canto label. The CD was nominated for the Golden Melody
Awards.
Medtner:
SonataReminiscenza Op.38 , No.1
Nikolai Medtner was a younger
contemporary of Scriabin and
Rachmaninoff. We heard
Andrey Gugnin play one of the
sonatas in February. Eva’s performance of the Sonata
Reminiscenza inspired Gregory

for us.
The Sonata Reminiscenza is
Medtner’s most popular and accessible sonata. It is a short, one
movement, work, full of lyrical
nostalgia, very easy on the ears
and great music.
Rachmaninoff: Piano Sonata No.2 Op.36
Op. 36 is one of Rachmaninoff’s
most popular and powerful piano works. It was written in 1912
in Rome, but revised by the composer who took some things out
and then again by Horowitz, who
put some things back in. This is
one of the great sonatas of the
twentieth century.
Eva Yulin Shen
Eva Shen is a student of Dang
Thai Son, the gold medal winner
of the 1980 Chopin Competition
and one of the great modern
pedagogues, Bernd Goetzke, at
Hochschule für Musik, Theater
und Medien in Hannover.
She performs around the world,
in Europe, North America and
China. Eva has appeared at
prestigious venues such as the
Mozarteum Wiener Saal in
Salzburg and the Disney Hall in
Los Angeles. She was recently
invited to perform Saint-Saens’
Carnival of the Animals with the
Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle
Generation in Canada. She premiered the German composer,
Christian Jost’s piano suite in
Berlin at the Konzerthaus, the
Munich Gasteig, and Hamburg

THE SOUNDS OF THE SEA –
AND DELICIOUS SEAFOOD TOO
Big Fish restaurant
at
Siam@Siam Design Hotel Pattaya
enhances its seafood buffet with
more premium
catches and live
music entertainment.
Pattaya, June 2016 – Pattaya visitors and residents already
know Big Fish is where to find the best seafood at the best
value. Starting from July 1st onwards, the restaurant’s nightly
Seafood BBQ Buffet, only THB 700 net or THB 990 net with
free-flow wine, simply can’t be beat. Especially not with the
buffet’s recent upgrade featuring more high-quality, premium
seafood choices. And now it’s all to a new beat. To music, that
is, namely acoustic guitar and piano by prominent local artists.
To the tastes and sounds, add also the sight of Pattaya’s most
beguiling restaurant interior. The setting features an idiosyncratic blend of industrial design and immersive oceanic colors.
Jellyfish lamps, a fish-tail bar and many other sea-inspired
artworks adorn the two-story space from floor to ceiling. Seafood BBQ Buffet at Big Fish is available every night from 6:30
p.m. to 10 p.m. For reservations please call 038 930 600 or

Tennis Anyone!
Lawn Tennis at Wimbledon
Mention tennis and one of the
first names to come to mind is
Wimbledon, and this year’s annual event is about to begin on
Monday, 27th June with prize
money worth over 28 million
pounds. For those of you who
do not know where Wimbledon
is, it is a leafy and affluent area
south west of the River Thames
in Greater London. Wimbledon
is home to The Championships,
the oldest tennis tournament in
the world and is widely consid-
Final, scheduled always for the
second Saturday and Sunday
respectively. Five major, junior,
and invitational events are held
each year. Wimbledon traditions
include a strict dress code for
competitors, the eating of
strawberries and cream by the
spectators, and Royal patronage.
The tournament is also notable
for the absence of sponsor advertising around the courts. In
2009 the Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof so
devised by Major
Walter Wingfield
was added to the
activities of the
club. In spring
1877, the club
was renamed
“The All England
Croquet
and
Lawn Tennis Club”
and signaled its
change of name
by instituting the
first Lawn Tennis
Championship. A
new code of
laws, replacing
the code administered by the
Marylebone
Cricket Club was
drawn up for the
e vent. Today ’s
rules are similar
except for details
such as the height
of the net and
posts and the
distance of the
service line from
the net.
The inaugural
Wimbledon
Championships
opened on 9th
July 1877. The
Gentlemen’s
Singles was the
only event held
and was won by
Spencer Gore an old Harrowvian
racket player, from a field of 22.
About 200 spectators paid one
shilling each to watch the final.
The lawns at the ground were
arranged so that the principal
court was in the middle with the
others arranged around it,
hence the title Centre Court.
The name was retained when
the Club moved in 1922 to the
present site in Church Road, although no longer a true description of its location. However, in
1980 four new courts were
ered the most prestigious. It
has been held at the All England
Club since 1877 and is one of
the four Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments; the others being the
Australian Open, The French
Open and the US Open, and
Wimbledon remains the only
major tennis event still played
on grass.
The tournament takes place
over two weeks in late June and
early July, culminating with the
Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles
that play could continue when
rain appears. Dark green and
purple are the traditional
Wimbledon colours. However, all
tennis players participating in
the tournament are required to
wear all-white or at least almost
all-white clothing, a long-time
tradition at Wimbledon.
According to Wikipedia, the private All England Lawn Tennis
and Croquet Club was founded
in 1868.
In 1876 lawn tennis, a game
brought into commission on the
north side of the ground, which
meant the Centre Court was
once more correctly defined. The
opening of the new No. 1 Court
in 1997 emphasised the description.
The first Ladies Championship
was held in 1884 and first prize,
was awarded to Maud Watson
with a silver flower basket worth
20 guineas.
By 1882, activity at the club was
almost exclusively confined to
lawn tennis and that year the
word “croquet” was dropped
from the title. However, for
sentimental reasons it was restored in 1899.
In 1884, the club added Ladies’
Singles and Gentlemen’s
Doubles competitions. Ladies’
Doubles and Mixed Doubles
events were added in 1913.
Until 1922, the reigning champion had to play only in the final, against whom ever had
won through to challenge him/
her. As with the other three
Major or Grand Slam events,
Wimbledon was contested by
top-ranked amateur players,
professional players were prohibited from participating. This
changed with the advent of
the open era in 1968. No British
man won the singles event at
Wimbledon between Fred Perry
in 1936 and Andy Murray in
2013, while no British woman has
won since Virginia Wade in 1977,
although Annabel Croft and
Laura Robson won the Girls’
Championship in 1984 and 2008
respectively. The Championship
was first televised in 1937.
Though properly called “The
Championships, Wimbledon”, depending on sources the event is
also known as “The All England
Lawn Tennis Championships”,
“The Wimbledon Championships”
or simply “Wimbledon”. From
1912 to 1924, the tournament
was recognized by the International Lawn Tennis Federation as
the “World Grass Court Championships”.
Also this year, the charity
Barnardo’s is commemorating its
150th anniversary and 70 years
since its partnership with
Wimbledon, when, between
1946 and 1966, it provided all
the ball boys for the tournament. In 1956, it was just boys,
with girls having to wait until
1977 before they were introduced at Wimbledon. The charity was established by Dr. Thomas Barnardo to care for destitute boys, opening its first care
home, in Stepney Causeway, in
1870. Barnardo later opened
the Girls’ Village Home, in
Barkingside, East London.

Sattahip Marathon
Jomtien Pool League General Meeting
A brief summary of last Thursday’s Dolly Dalton Jomtien Pool League
General Meeting:
- Chang Beer sponsored the past season with an additional 10,000
Baht, so trophies will be awarded to the top three teams this season,
not just the top two as usual.
- The TROPHY PRESENTATION was held at TAKE CARE BAR on
THURSDAY, 23rd JUNE.
The Jomtien Pool League subsidized the party with 8,000 Baht so
there would be enough food for all teams and whoever they brought
along to the party.
Where possible, new fixtures and contact lists for the upcoming season was also handed out at the party.
- There are three new venues that will join the Jomtien Pool League
next season. They are Aussie Ally’s (Soi 7), Bootleggers and Celtic
Tiger (both in the Rompho Bar Complex on Jomtien Second Road).
- As of the General Meeting, there were no withdrawals. So the League
will have 14 teams playing next season.
- We will have a one week break after the trophy presentation party.
Therefore, the new 2016 (2) season will start on Thursday, 7th July,
2016!
- No changes were made to the procedural or playing rules.
- Match start time: The official match start time is 8.30 pm; however,
no later than 9 pm. That means matches do not have to start on the
spot at 8.30 pm, but anytime between 8.30 pm and 9 pm.

SATURDAY 25TH JUNE TO SATURDAY 2ND JULY 2016
PATTAYA SPORTS CLUB MEMBERS
Growling Swans Andrew Hills, Keith Buchanan and Sandy Leiper.
Daryl Evans carded 38 points.
TROPICAL GOLF GROUP
Friday, 17 th June: St
Andrews Stableford. Once in
a while the Tropical Golfers treat
themselves to some of the nicer
courses because hey, we’re
worth it! This year it happened
to be twice in a row since right
after a visit to Laem Chabang,
the destination was St.
Andrews 2000. Wow, we sure
are high class! Most rendezvoused at BJ’s Holiday Lodge,
and a total of seventeen players put trust in fate and headed
out under darkening skies.
St. Andrews is in good condition,
but one expects excellent condition from this course. Fairways
were pretty good, but several
greens had areas of blight of
some sort. A light rain fell for
about 20 minutes but not
enough to stop play, and just
when it looked like it was going
to get heavy the worst of it
moved on leaving behind cooler
temperatures. St Andrews is
difficult and, even playing off
the white tees, most holes are
quite challenging. A few remember when the layout was even
tougher. Even so several players found their groove and
posted good scores.
Playing steady golf Daryl Evans,
Course Handicap 26, used his
extra shots wisely and carded
the day’s best 38 points. Good
going on a very difficult layout!
Next came Mike O’Brien (CH 24)
with a handicap tying 36 points,
and then Brian Parish (CH 12)
edged out John Davis (CH 15)
on countback at 34 points.
Near Pins: Maurice Roberts,
Landis Brooks, John Davis, Brian
Gabe.
THE GROWLING SWAN
Thursday, 16th June: Khao
Kheow Stableford. A big field
of 32 golfers travelled to Khao
Kheow Golf Course, which was
in quite good nick. The skies
were overcast with a light wind,
and the odd spot of light rain,
which made playing conditions
quite pleasant. Greetings were
handed out to Jim Groves, Glenn
Henriksen, Brad Green, Frank Di
Vincenzo, Elliott Ness, Ron
Gillett, Stuart Brown & Andrew
Hills, and fond farewells to Martin Todd and Alan Saunders. We
played C and B Nines in that order. A flight was won by Andrew Hills (8) with a fine 38
points. He won on a countback
from big hitting Tom McMahon
(11), with the very consistent
Steve Younger (12) filling third
spot with 36 points. Steve was
a little disappointed in his final
score after a great first nine. B
flight saw another victory to
Keith Buchanan (17), who
scored 40 points, to give him
back to back wins with The
Growling
Swan.
Jayson
Schembri (20) came in second
on a countback with 36 points,
with an average front nine, and
an improved back nine of 22
points. Alex Field (17), who was
also celebrating his birthday,
filled 3rd spot with 36 points. C
flight saw another victory to
Sandy Leiper (28) who scored a
very impressive 42 points, to
also give him back to back wins
with The Growling Swan. Another man in form, who was
quick to praise the skills of his
caddy. Shane Young (27) continued his fine form with a business like 38 points. Improvement in his putting being quite
evident! Volker Buley (31) was
7 points back, but that was good
enough to get a 3 rd placing.
NTP’s: C3 & C8 Andrew Hills, B3
Bill Stienmann, B8 Keith
Buchanan. Long Putt: C9 Fred
Cuypers, B9 Martin Todd.
Mark Wood, Dale Shier, Dave Ferris and Kenny Aihara.
THE GOLF CLUB
Monday 13 th June: Green
Valley Stableford. It was an
All-Australian podium today as
Capt. Phil Smedley (15) once
again improves his scoring to
share his second place with fellow countryman Scott Parker
(27). Both had a 36 point round
on a golf course that was in
beautiful condition. Top score
today went to visiting Tony
Moore (27) who is traveling with
Scott for a week’s break from
the Aussie winter. Tony’s 43 is
another great round at Green
Valley that has been giving out
some high numbers in the last
month. Dave Smith claimed the
near pin but could still only man-
age a par for the effort.
Tuesday
14 th
June:
Subhapruek Stableford.
Some of our readers may not
be familiar with this golf course,
but it is a great one and comes
highly recommended. It is a 90
minute drive from Pattaya but
well worth the trip as this Pete
Dye course is one of his best.
Shot of the day on this pretty
par-3 16th hole went to our pal
Davey Dee who is in town for a
few days and takes away the
near pin award. Bringing up the
rear was myself Steve Ellison
(20) with 34 points to tie with
Michael Otterman (17). Leading
the pack was the dynamic duo
of Tony Moore (27) with 37
points and Scott Parker (27)
with 40 points, visiting us from
Downundah.
Thursday
16 th
June:
Burapha Stableford. A full
sign-up sheet saw 20 golfers join
us today. The tourists took advantage of the regulars today
with John Entsuah (13) firing a
fantastic 42 in cool and overcast conditions. Gabe Dukwa
(13) is also back in town and
picked up second place with a
solid 40 points. The last 2 groups
caught a bit of rain on the last 2
holes that saw Kenny Aihara
(17) with a nice 39 on the card
and partners Dale Shier (12) and
Mark Wood (12) tied at 4th with
a pair of 37’s. Steve Ellison.
Owen Walkley and Orn.
SIAM COUNTRY RESORT
On Tuesday 14th June we went
to Treasure Hill with 3 groups. It
was a nice day on a beautiful
course. It was nice weather and
the course was in a very good
condition. But it is always a difficult course. So we hadn’t not high
scores today. The most consistent player of our group won
today, Jonathan Pratt (8) with
36 Stableford points. It was pity
he had some problems with the
crocodile hole and the next par 3
otherwise he would have easily
40 points. Second was Neil
Harvey (16) with 33 Stableford
points after a strong back nine.
He beat Daniel (22) on the count
back. The near to the pin were
for Tony Wakeling (17), Neil
Harvey, Paul Davies (27) and
Willem Lasonder (18).
Thursday 16th June we went
Rayong Green Valley. The course
has had a kind of revival the last
2 months. Perhaps the rain of
the last weeks helped a little bit,
but the honour comes to the
green keeper. It was very enjoyable to play. The weather
looked threatening with a dark
sky and clouds and sometimes a
sunbeam. But we were lucky,
the rain started when we already
had been finished. Today one
very good score for home course
player Owen Walkley (14) with
41 Stableford points. Second
today Jonathan Pratt with 35
Stableford points.
The near to the pin for another
home course player, Orn (20)
who was the only one who
reached the green and won 3
nearies.

SATURDAY 25TH JUNE TO SATURDAY 2ND JULY 2016
Paul Smith and Landis Brooks with BJ finest.
TROPICAL GOLF GROUP
The test for the day was to be
the B & C Nines and we were
soon away. Here the Caddie is
waiting downstairs with the
buggy and she takes you
straight to the first tee, and then
off. I used to play the course
pretty regularly in the ‘Old
Days’, and it was nice to be playing again. The B Nine is relatively
straight forward and we move
along well on these fine nine
holes, enjoying the whole atmosphere. The fairways were good
and the greens a test. Then we
moved onto the C Nine, and this
is a bit of a monster. Probably
one of the most difficult nine
holes on any course! However,
it has to be said that it is a real
test of golf, but personally I do
prefer the other 18 holes. We
were back early and were able
to get on with the results. The
winner on the day was Paul
Smith with 38 points ahead of
Landis Brooks in second with 36
points. In third was John Davis
with 35 points and then we had
a countback on 33 points that
saw Brian Parish in fourth ahead
of Derek Brook. Then on with
tales of how well we played!
Near Pin: Brian Gabe (2),
Maurice Roberts, AVD.
Blair Skinny Newton, Jimmy Carr and Geoff Cox.
BUNKER BOYS
Monday 13th June: Khao
Kheow Stableford. Eleven
players made their way to this
scenic golf course which was in
superb condition with the
greens a little slow resulting in
some excellent scores from the
higher handicap players. Of
course our Silver Surfer, P J
Redman (27), had a huge advantage with the silver tees a
good 1000 yards shorter than
the regular tees. However, his
game was impeccable with all
drives on the fairway and good
approach shots, but please
don’t mention his putting. Both
Les Hall (24) and Jimmy Carr
(17) shared second and third
position on countback, both
with 38 points and bettered
their handicaps and are slowly
moving up the GOM point tally.
Near Pins: Frank Quinlan, Les
Hall, Jimmy Carr, P J Redman.
Wednesday 15th June:
Greenwood. Our winner, Blair
Skinny Newton (28) had his
maiden win with the Bunker Boys
after 20 years membership and
he did it in style scoring 28 pts
on the front nine. Jimmy Carr
(17) couldn’t believe he had lost
out with his 40 pts. With Mike
Johns (16) in third with 35 points.
Near Pins: Geoff Cox (2), Geoff
Parker.
Friday 17th June: Mountain
Shadow Stableford. Les Hall
(24) has had a welcome return
to form with a 40 point win and
second on his most recent outings. Welcome back to Mike Lloyd
(17) who is here on a short trip
and managed to be in the prizes
on his first game in second with
37 points. Sean Murphy (17) in
third with 35 points. Near Pins:
Mike Johns, Sean Murphy, Mashi
Kaneta (2).
Winner Brian Gabe with Dave Richardson.
CAFE KRONBORG
Thursday, 16th June:
Burapha
Stableford.
Burapha was the game 30 minutes up route 7. A swift check in
(they don’t use a computer) and
off A1 50 minutes early with a
threat of rain all day. The course
was in fine shape getting ready
for the Singha Pattaya Open
next month. Back in the clubhouse it was welcomes for
Oddur Olafsson from Iceland
and Joe Vanderwegon from Belgium and a goodbye to Brian
