Maurissa Armstrong
Maurissa Armstrong has had little formal training
in art, much of what she knows and the techniques
employed are self-taught with the aid of online
research. Currently completing studies in Creative
Media, Armstrong’s graphic novel grew out of an
assignment. She attributes her understanding of
character drawing, photography, creating scenes and
building a shot list in filmmaking to helping bring
Leyna Insidious to fruition.
Leyna Insidious is Armstrong’s interpretation of a
Trinidadian heroine created with the intention to
entertain just as much as to educate. Always
fascinated by the heroines from her favourite U.S.
television shows she felt compelled to have one
emerge from her own “back yard”.
