We have a great student
teacher this year at La Conner
Middle School. Ms. Boldrin is a
student teacher from Western
Washington
University
in
Bellingham. She is really fun to
have around. She is teaching
Social Studies and Language Arts
with Mrs. Thurmond and Mrs.
Keith.
Ms. Boldrin knew she wanted
to become a teacher at an early
age. “In first grade, I used to play
school with my little brother,” said
Ms. Boldrin. “I was always the
teacher, and he was always the
student. I remember how excited
my brother would be when we
played school. He would even get
up early Saturday mornings in order to play.”
Her favorite age to teach is middle school. She likes all three grade
levels. Ms. Boldrin said, “I really like all the grades in middle school. Eighth
grade, because they are right on the cuff of high school; 7th grade, because
of their amazing energy level, and 6th grade because they are excited to be
new to the middle school.”
Some things she likes best about La Conner are the students and the
beautiful new building.

Open House By Emma Sullivan
Every year La Conner
Middle School has an Open
House. This year it was on
September 24, 2015. During
Open House, students showed
their parents around the middle
school. Teachers were in their
classrooms so students could
introduce their parents to their
teachers. There was also a
spaghetti dinner, with desserts. “Dinner was delicious,” said Ms. Boldrin, a
student teacher. Also there were some signup places to sign up for Boy
Scouts or Girl Scouts. Ms. Sullivan said, ”Open House had a great turnout.”
A lot of people came- over 200 families!
“Open House is a great experience

for students to show their parents the
new school,” said ASB President
Preston Rivas.
Overall, Open House was a
fantastic success in the new building!

La Conner 8 grader Arjuna Adams said, “She’s awesome, she’s an
amazing student teacher, and I hope she comes back to La Conner after
she graduates.”
Ms. Boldrin enjoys teaching history and language arts because she
loves writing and learning about other cultures.
In her spare time, Ms. Boldrin loves to run. She recently ran a half
marathon. She also likes to play the guitar, sometimes writing new lyrics
to songs. We are very happy to have Ms. Boldrin is here!

Movie Review: Inside Out By Sarah Malcomson
In the movie Inside Out, Riley is a happy 11-year old girl who loves
hockey, but her world turns upside-down when she and her parents move
to
San
Francisco.
Riley's emotions (Joy,
Anger, Sadness, Fear,
and Disgust) try to
guide her through this
difficult, life-changing
event. After they get to
San Francisco, they
start to disagree on
how to deal with this
dramatic
change,
which causes problems up in Headquarters, the central living and working
place for the five emotions.
On Riley's first day at her new school, Sadness accidentally causes
Riley to cry in front of her class, creating a sad core memory. Joy tries to
get rid of the new core memory before it reaches the central hub, but she
accidentally knocks the other core memories loose in her struggle with
Sadness, shutting down the personality islands and making them
unstable. Before Joy can put them back, she, Sadness, and the core
memories are sucked out of Headquarters through the memory tube
leading to the rest of Riley's mind. They end up in the storage area of
Riley's long-term memories and set out to return to Headquarters. The
rest of the movie is about Sadness and Joy continuing on their journey
and eventually recovering Riley’s core memories and fixing the
personality islands. This is a movie for people of all ages.

Braves’ Bulletin Book Review: Pegasus: The Flame of Olympus By Emma Sullivan
Pegasus: The Flame of Olympus is a great
mix of modern life and mythology tales.
When Pegasus crashes on Emily’s roof
from being struck by lightning, her life is
changed forever. Soon she finds herself in
the middle of a battle between the
Olympians and the stone-skinned, multiarmed creatures called Nirads. Emily has to
join forces with a boy named Joel, a thief
from Olympus named Paelen, the goddess
Diana, and the flying horse, Pegasus, to
escape the secret government agency
known as the CRU. Emily soon finds out
that her role in this quest to save the Flame
of Olympus from burning out is greater than
she thought. I highly recommend this book
to people who like the Percy Jackson series.
Movie Review: The Lion King By Maya Medeiros
The Lion King begins with
Mufasa, king of the lions,
holding his newborn son Simba.
The whole
community of
animals is here to witness
young Simba, because he is the
future king. Everyone was
happy except one lion. That lion
is Scar, Mufasa's brother, who
was next in line before Simba
came along. Scar was angry.
Simba plays all the time with a
lion named Nala. Scar decides
to put Simba in danger and then
sends his minions the hyenas
there. They try to kill Simba until
Mufasa shows up and saves him. Scar sends Simba to a place
and tells him to stay while the hyenas caused a stampede.
Mufasa saves Simba but puts himself in danger. He is hanging
off a cliff. Then Scar blames Simba on his death and tells him
he should leave. Simba finds himself somewhere else to live.
Then he meets Timon, a wisecracking meerkat, and Pumbaa,
a funky warthog. Simba adapts to hakuna matata. The cub
matures into a young adult. Then Nala returns and he
remembers his past. She tells him about how the lions were all
miserable under Scar's eyes. Then with the help of Nala and a
wise monkey named Rafiki, he realizes his father's spirit lives
on in him and that he must take on the responsibilities of his
destined role. Simba returns to Pride Rock to fight Scar for his
kingdom, and takes his rightful position as king. This movie
was made 1994. It’s my favorite movie. I highly recommend it.
Recipe Of The Month By Natalie Holt
Microwave Chocolate
Chip Cookies
Ingredients
1 pouch of (17.5 oz) Betty
Crocker™ chocolate chip
cookie mix
½ cup unsalted butter,
softened
1 egg
Chocolate chips, for topping,
if desired.
Directions
In medium bowl, stir the
cookie mix, softened butter
and egg until soft dough
forms.
Lightly
spray
8
(6-oz)
ramekins with cooking spray.
Scoop 1/4 cup of the dough
into each ramekin; use the
back of spoon to smooth and
spread dough evenly into
bottom.
Microwave 1 ramekin at a
time uncovered on high for 1
minute and 15 seconds.
About 30 seconds into the
cooking time, add a few
chocolate chips to the top of
the cookies (Many of the
chocolate chips in the dough
will sink during cooking, so
this step helps the cookies
look
more
like
classic
chocolate chip cookies).
Let the cookies cool in
ramekins 10 minutes, then
run a knife along the edge of
each ramekin to help remove
the cookies before serving.
