Iron and steel industry is one of the leading industries of the economy in Turkey. Turkish steel
industry has showed a considerable progress since 1920's and fully integrated with the
global steel industry to meet the changing market environment in world steel markets.
Turkish steel industry has recorded consistent growth, expanding exponentially in line with
strong demand for high quality steel products in the world. Today, with its 25 electric arc
furnace mills (EAF), 2 induction furnaces with a capacity range from 250 to 300 thousand
tonnes, and 3 BOF plants with a capacity range from 2.8 to 5.0 million tonnes, Turkey's crude
steel production has reached to 34.0 million tons in 2014. With these gures, in 2014 Turkey
was Europe's second (2nd) largest crude steel producer, and eighth (8th) in the world
ranking of steel-producing countries.
Turkey is also one of the biggest exporters of steel products, holding the eighth place
among the steel exporting countries and the world leader in export of reinforcement bars
used for construction. Turkish steel products have been exported to approximately 200
countries and to all regions in the world the high quality products, competitive prices and
effective marketing strategies.

Turkish companies to explore areas of cooperation and new business prospects in order to
create mutually benecial and fruitful business relationships which will build a bridge

Steel Exporters' Association had been operating under the body of Istanbul Ferrous
and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association since 1986 which is one of the ve
associations under the body of General Secretariat of Istanbul Mineral and
Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB). In October 20, 2005, Steel Exporters'
Association was established with the decision of the Board of Ministers as the
sixth member of IMMIB. Steel Exporters' Association has 616 members as of
October 2015.

In 2014 Turkey was Europe’s second (2nd) largest crude steel producer, and eighth (8th) in the
world ranking of steel-producing countries.
Turkey is a major player in world steel production and exportation.The country has a proven track
record of producing quality products to meet market needs, of investing in and expanding at
products production capacity, and developing new technologies.

The Turkish steel industry has seen considerable innovations over the
past two decades,reecting a commitment to respond to evolutions in
world steel markets. The steel industry in Turkey has witnessed consistent growth over this period, expanding exponentially over the past ve
years in response to strong world demand for quality steel products.
With its long Mediterranean coastline, Turkey is uniquely positioned to
service European steel markets quickly and efciently.
The liberalization of economic activities in Turkey during the 1980s was a
turning point not only for the development of the Turkish economy as a
whole, but also for the iron and steel industry in particular. The 1980s
inaugurated a period of great progress for the Turkish iron and steel
industry, which began with the establishment of electric arc furnace mills.

In 2014, global output reached1.637 billion tons ,up by 1.4% on 2013.Turkey had a 2% decrease
with 34.035 million tons in year 2014.
Today all steel production companies in Turkey are privately held, and Turkish steelmakers continue
to pursue technological developments to enhance the long-term viability of the industry in the
global marketplace.The Steel industry has become one of the most developed sectors in Turkey
and today counts as the fourth largest contributor to the Turkish economy.

A GROWING INDUSTRY
While Turkey was the world’s 17th biggest crude
steel producer in 2000, it has become the 8th
biggest producer globally and 2nd largest steel
producer in Europe. In fact, Turkey was the third
fastest growing steel producer in the world
between the period 2001 and 2011, after China
and India. Steel production in Turkey has increased
signicantly since 2001, growing from 15 million
tons (mt) in 2001 to 34 million tons in 2014. Growth of
the industry in Turkey has been driven in part by
strong domestic consumption. Turkey’s per capita
on crude steel consumption has increased to 400
kg in 2012 and is expected to continue to grow in
the medium and long terms. In addition to the
strong domestic demand and dynamic steel
consuming industries, Turkey’s well placed
geographical position also supports exports and
thus production.
INVESTING IN PRODUCTION
Turkey's steel production capacity has been
rising strongly since 2005. During the last few
years new plants started production especially
in at products segment.There are also
projects being considered currently for
establishing new capacities and modernization of the existing capacities, which will
contribute balancing Turkey's at and long
steel production-consumption structure.
Turkey's melting production capacity reached
51 million tons in 2014 from 19.8 million tons in
2000, up by 157.6%. Turkey's crude steel
production is 34 million tons in 2014.

CONTINUED INVESTMENT IN TECHNOLOGY
Turkey’s growing eminence in the steel world is not only due to the considerable expansion of production, but also to the signicant investments made in innovative and state-of-the-art production methods and technologies. For example, one of the biggest Turkish steel producers has invested
in the world’s largest and most productive electric arc furnace, producing steel from scrap metal
scrap metal. This allows the company to implement an economical mini-mill concept for the production of at steel products. Similarly, another prominent producer is increasing the rolling and
processing capacity of its cold-rolling mill complex, which includes the supply of a new reversing
mill and galvanizing line as well as upgrading of the existing pickle line.

The steel industry is the fourth largest exporting sector in the Turkish economy and one of the major

driving forces for Turkey’s export capacity. The share of steel products in Turkey’s total exports
increased from 1.9% in 1981 to 8.7 % in 2014. Turkey is one of the biggest exporters of steel products and
the world’s leading exporter of rebars (reinforced steel bars). Despite the economic downturn, the
international demand for Turkish steel products remains high. In 2014 , the country exported 17.5
million tons of steel products worth $13.2 bn such as billets and slabs, long products, at products,

tubes and pipes, construction products and appliances, etc. In quantity terms, long products have the

greatest share in steel exports with 62.5%, followed by at products with 13.5%, steel tubes and pipes
with 11.2%, billet and slab with 3.4%, and other steel products with 9.3%.

TURKISH STEEL IN THE WORLD
Turkish steel manufacturers have made exports to more
than 180 countries and to all regions of the world, due to
the high quality products, competitive prices and
effective marketing strategies. According to 2014
gures, Turkey’s biggest export partnes are United
States, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Yemen and
Egypt. Turkey’s main export region is the Mİddle East
with the top three Turkish steel importing countries ( Iraq,
United Arab Emirates, and Israel) constituting 23.5% of
Turkey’s total steel exports. Thanks to partial recovery in
European Union, Turkish steel exports to the region increased by 25.7% in 2013 and have been also
keeping on rise in 2015. On the other hand, due to political instabilities in some of the countries
there is 16.5% decrease in Turkish steel exports to MENA region. Especially, in North America there is
signiciant increasing about Turkish steel exports. Emerging regions such as Latin America and
Africa is increasingly becoming key destinations for Turkish steel products.

Turkish steel is employed in a range of industries across the globe, from construction to heavy
engineering and high-prole projects such as high-speed train lines. Projects and products that
have employed Turkish steel include:

TAKING ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE
Meeting The World’s Most Stringest Environmental Standards
The main environmental issues facing the steel sector are reduction of solid, liquid and gaseous
wastes and naise pollution, with emphasis in any given case depending on the manufacturing
process. It is both cost effective and environmentally sound to implement pollution prevention
methods at the outset of production processes, and priority has been given to recycling the
valuable substances present in wastes, thereby reducing their environmental impact to the
mininmum. The Turkish steel industry is committed to the elimination of those wastes which cannot
be recycled. Moreover, Turkey is committed to meeting EU environmental standartds in industrial
production without recourse to state or other subsidies. Turkey is currently implementing stringent
EU environmental legislative norms, which includes proactively integrating the EU Directive on
Integrated Pollution Protection Control, which entered into force within the Community in 2007.
Integrated Pollution Protection Control is a regulatory system whereby enterprises that desire to
operate at full production are obliged to prove they apply Best Available Techniques
systematically and fulll other requirements. Best Available Techniques cover measures to
proevent pollution and aim at reducing emissions in cases where it is not possible to prevent
pollution absolutely. The steel industry in Turkey has taken a leadership role in modernizing facilities
and manufacturing processes to reduce harmful GHG emissions. The Turkish steel industry invested
more than $1bn in environmental technologies between 2002 and 2007. The industry estimates
that an additional $1.5bn in environmental related investments will be made by 2015. Efforts to
address climate change and promote sustainable manufacturing at Turkish steel facilities include:

•Modernizing electric arc furnaces

•Systems to recover zinc in ue dust
•Establishing a slag recycling facility
•Converting plants to clean natural gas
•Improving water systems and recovering waste water and processing water

•Establishing injection systems for pulverized coal in blast furnaces
•Eliminating leak ages in buildings and processing lines to reduce heat loss.
Because 71% of Turkish steel production is carried out by electric arc furnaces, the average CO2
emission for producing 1 ton of crude steel in Turkey is 0.69 tons. This compares favorably with the
global average of 1.5 tons.
ISO CERTIFICATION
Many mills in Turkey have already made great strides in improving their environmental credentials.
All integrated mills have received ISO 14001 certication, which species the requirements for an
environmental management system. Iso 14001 is seen as the cornerstone standard of the ISO
14000 series and is the only ISO 14000 standard against which it is currently possible to be certied
by an external certication authority. This standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to
implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system; assure its conformity
with its own stated environmental policy; demonstrate conformity; ensure compliance with
environmental laws and regulations; and seek certication of its environmental management
system by an external third party organization. All members of the Turkish Iron and Stell Producers
Association also hold the ISO 9001 certication, a globally recognized standard for the quality
management of business.

The foundations of BMS, an institutionalized group of
companies, were laid in 1968 as Sabah Nakliyat and
Marketing in Karabük, where the rst iron and steel plant of
Turkey was established, and then expanded throughout the
country as Zontur Demir Çelik AŞ in Iskenderun in 1984, as
BMS Demir Çelik in Ankara in 1995, as BMS A.Ş. in Istanbul in

The rst and the highest capacity wire mesh plant of Turkey
was established in Manisa Organized Industrial Free Zone in
1972 and acquired by our group in 2004. This plant, as BMS
Çelik Hasır San. Tic. A.Ş., increased its annual capacity to
70.000 ton/year wire mesh, 120.000 ton/year cold drawn
steel and bar with the addition of the state-of-the-art
machinery and enlarged covered areas. Besides its
challenging position in Turkey, it accounts for 30% of wire
mesh production and export of Turkey. Thick proles (NPI,
NPU, HEB, HEA, HEM, IPE) not being produced in Turkey are
imported and sold in the Gebze plant of Boğaç Prol Demir
Çelik San.Tic. A.Ş., which joined by our Group in 2002.
Sheet and roll metals, angles, bar and pipes are also
produced by this company. All its shares were acquired by
our Group in 2013. The production facility, which joined our
Group the last, is galvanized wire and wire products plant
that is set up on a 20.000 m2 area in Dilovası Machinery
Trade Organized Industrial Zone under the registration of
BMS TEL. The investments started in this facility in 2011 and
completed in August 2012. The products manufactured in
these facilities by using advanced technologies of the world
have readily gained recognition with their quality both on
the world markets and in Turkey. Our Group has attained a
deserved place in the construction sector, iron and steel
industry as a world brand operating in the Turkish economy
and global markets with our sales ofces in Karabük,
Ankara, Iskenderun and Istanbul, the Wire Mesh Factory in
Manisa, the prole warehouse in Gebze and BMS Wire
Factory, with our own vehicles and 300 specialized
employees and with 600.000 ton/year sales,
import,production and export in 2013

BMS ÇELİK HASIR SAN.TİC.A.Ş.
The rst and highest capacity wire mesh factory of Turkey
was established in Manisa organized Industrial Zone in
1971. Operated by various companies until 2001, this
facility joined the BSM GROUP in September 2004. BMS
ÇELİK HASIR SAN. VE TİC. A.Ş., which started its operations
again after radical modernization works and addition of
new and modern machinery , is now the most advanced
wire mesh factory of Turkey with the highest capacity.
Annual capacity reached 120.000 ton/year in wire mesh
and 120.000 ton/year in cold drawn bar with the latest
machinery additions and enlarged covered areas.
BMS ÇELİK HASIR SAN. VE TİC. A.Ş. is operated on a 12.000
m2 area, made up of 7000 m² covered and 5000 m² open
area, and produces at both Turkish standards and the
world wide recognized standards such as ASTM, DIN and
BSI. Quality controls of the wire mesh and cold drawn bars
are continually carried out in the laboratories within the
facility and are also subjected to quality control tests in the
test laboratories of the universities periodically. Modern
technology product wire mesh offers 35-40% saving in
time, labour and consumption according to the area of
use. Having the TSE certicate, BMS ÇELİK HASIR produces
in special sizes outside the standard sizes (2150 x 5000)
according to the projects or the needs of the customers.
Besides the wire mesh, plain and ribbed steel bar or coils
are produced in ST IVB quality from Ø 4 mm to Ø 12 mm
(between 1 mt - 12 mt in length). BMS ÇELİK HASIR
accounts for 30% of the wire mesh export of Turkey. Some
of the countries exported are USA – Greece – TRNC - Libya
- Iraq - Nigeria – North Yemen – Germany - Russia Jamaica - Syria - Albania - Israel - Croatia and Africa. BMS
