2014 prices: All hunts are 5 day hunts priced at $4200. 2015 hunt prices are $4200. Good hunting is weather dependent.
2014 HUNT SPECIAL – HUNT #2 SEMI-GUIDED HUNT
Hunt #2 Semi-guided hunt. Are you looking for a more reasonable hunt option for this fall? Get 4 or more of your hunting partners together and you can each hunt for $3200. This is
a $1000 savings over our 2014 hunt price. Hunt #2, the dates of which are October 31-November 4 is probably our toughest, most physically demanding hunt. The opening week is
over and we have to work really hard for the opportunity we get. Since the mule deer rut hasn’t usually begun yet, mule deer hunting can be tough as well. During the 2007 season,
which was one of our toughest hunting seasons on record, we shot a really nice 6x6 bull, and another hunter missed a huge 380” bull on the 2nd hunt. In 2010, we only had one hunter
on this hunt, and he shot a really nice 5x6 bull that was nearly 15 years old! Where else can you shoot a bull that has survived in the woods that many years? Almost certainly not
Colorado! In 2012 we had five hunters on this hunt, they all had multiple shot opportunities, and three of them harvested mature bulls. (Hunt price does not include hunting license.)

List of what to bring
I took pictures of this bull while he was still alive. Notice how
little fat he had left in early March, 2011.
This bull unfortunately isn’t alive anymore, but his
genetics are. We saw a couple bulls in archery that
would approach his size, and we know of a couple
bulls that were harvested in our area that rival him in
inches, but not in his typical frame and beauty.

)UHH+XQW,Not really, but does our poor economy have you dreaming of a Montana hunt instead of going on one? Would you rather barter work, guiding,
or (?) for a hunt? In 2014 (through 2016) Wilderness Connection is looking for able-bodied contractors that are skilled in plumbing, wiring, roofing, drywall work,
and framing for a new lodge. You could possibly come to Montana, spend 2-3 weeks of your sweat-equity, and also do an elk/mule deer hunt at the same time.
During the 2012 season we had 8 ladies and gentlemen barter their labor for free rifle or archery hunts. 100% of our archery barters had opportunity, and 3 of 5
rifle barters took shots at nice bulls. See our web page at http://www.wildcon.com/freehunt.html for more information, or call Rob at 406-848-7862.

Mule Deer hunting with
Wilderness Connection:
As you can see in this brochure, we produce some decent mule deer.
We shoot nice bucks for a couple reasons: Firstly, we've had a "reverse
trophy fee" management program here for 14 years that strongly discourages harvest of small bucks. Secondly, our hunting regulations
here do not allow us to hunt mule deer in the majority of our area after
the 4th hunt. In Montana, hunting areas are divided into hunting "districts". One hunting district, which encompasses approximately 3/4 of
our hunting area closes down to hunting after our 4th hunt - but only for
mule deer, not for whitetails and elk. The remaining 1/4 of our hunting
area is open to hunting mule deer for the entire season.
I've done some looking around, and you can go on a deer hunt in
Montana for $3000 - $8000. You'd probably see more deer on those
hunts than you'd see here, but you'd probably still shoot the same class
of buck we shoot here. I still don't consider our mule deer "trophyclass", but for the same price of those deer only hunts, you can hunt with
us and hunt both elk and deer.

It’s impossible to guess what the weather is going to do. Any hunting
in the west depends strongly on ideal weather conditions. Remember,
this is not a high-fence hunt!!! If the “success” of your hunt can only
be measured in meat and horns, elk hunting is probably not for you – I
know some outstanding outfitters and guide services that can take
you caribou or antelope hunting. However, if you come with the mind
set that you are going to hunt hard, do your best, and enjoy your hunt,
regardless of outcome, you will never go home disappointed.

ARCHERY HUNT
REFERENCES
Our archery program is just that – it’s
more of a program than a hunt. For the
last 11 years we’ve strived to keep our
program small – fewer hunters equates
to more opportunity – most of the time
our hunters have multiple opportunities. I have the philosophy that if we
put a hunter in enough close-encounter
situations he’s eventually going to
get a close, clean shot. I make every
attempt to book only one party per
hunt, whether that party has 2 people
in it or 6. We could book far more
hunters than we do – but by keeping
our archery camp small and personal,
we’ve come close to having 100%
opportunity for the last decade.

FIRST BLOOD
POLICY
I’ve always tried to be as understanding as possible concerning wounded animals, but in an
attempt to promote conservative
shot taking, accurate shot placement (and more target practice
in general), I’ve copied a policy
that is very common in archery elk
hunting. If a hunter takes a shot,
we’ll make every attempt to track
a wounded animal for as long as
we need to. If we need to call off
an unsuccessful tracking job, we
require the archery hunter to rest
the next day and not hunt. This
doesn’t mean that the hunter will
be shunned in camp, nor does it
mean the hunter can’t go into the
woods again. It does, however,
emphasize the fact that a hunter
cannot always expect 2nd or 3rd
chances at elk.

We hunt these animals on their terms.
Sometimes we’re successful, sometimes
we’re not. This is fair chase.

Goat hunting with
Wilderness Connection
Steve Arnold’s 9 3/4” billy.
John Healy’s 9 1/4” goat.
Yes...
we take a limited number of goat hunters in late September or early October. The license
is by (very) limited draw only. Interested persons should apply for their license by May 1st in area
314-00. Buy the bonus point! If you’re consistent with applying every year, the odds will eventually
turn in your favor. This rifle only hunt is very
physically
demanding, but
rewarding and
“once in a
lifetime.”
Rob’s 2013 10” goat
Wilderness Connection also
offers hunts for: bison,
youth hunts, and hunts for
disabled hunters.

In 2012 we added a zipline to the ranch. With 7 zips (one of which is 200’ above the
creek) and 2 adventure elements, our zipline tour provides fun for most ages.
Trail Rides: Ride to the top of the mountain through
old-growth forests, wildflower-filled meadows, and
aspen groves.
Kids always enjoy our young colts and fillies.
