May 2016
AROUND THE DISTRICT….
DIERINGER CELEBRATES ITS
“QUASQUICENTENNIAL”
Thanks to the combined efforts of
Quentin Clark, Carly Lange, Pat Keaton
and Louise Snow, a history wall showcasing historic photos and information
about the school district from its founding in 1890 to present was unveiled on
January 25th. The wall is in a permanent
case located in the North Tapps Middle
School commons.
Even though the
school was founded in 1890, the first day
of school was January 3, 1891, making
this the 125th anniversary. The district
has experienced many changes since the
first classes were held in a storage shed.

GROWTH AND FACILITIES TASK
FORCE TO LOOK AT DIERINGER’S
FUTURE NEEDS
Our students are most fortunate to
have the wonderful schools this community has provided. To make sure this
continues as our population grows and
our schools age, the Dieringer School
District Board of Directors has charged a
task force, composed of community and
staff representatives, with addressing the
important goal of providing school facilities to best meet the future needs of the
Dieringer School District students, families and staff.
The Growth and Facilities Task Force’s
work will focus around three key areas:
 Providing adequate classrooms and
other instructional spaces to meet the
needs of our growing school community;
 Maintaining our schools to properly
serve our students; and
 Planning to support our 9-12 grade
students who attend the Sumner School
District through the development of
needed instructional spaces.
The Growth and Facilities Task Force
began its work on May 3rd and will work
through the summer and fall to develop
recommendations by the October Board
meeting. The community will be kept
informed and provided opportunities for
input throughout this process.

DIERINGER HEIGHTS….
Did you know…all 4th and 5th grade students at
DHES will have one to one access to laptop computers next year? It has been a wonderful instructional tool for those students who have participated in
the pilot process and we are excited to begin this
journey with all of our Intermediate students in the
fall. In addition, early childhood/Kindergarten classes
will have an iPad mini for every two students.
Teachers are also excited to create opportunities to
extend our students learning and further prepare them
for college and career readiness. A big thank you to our
voters who have supported the district technology
initiatives and the Technology Levy. It really is helping
our students and staff take the necessary next steps in
their 21st Century learning needs!!
DID YOU KNOW???
….North
Tapps recently
went
through an
office
upgrade. If you
haven’t had a
chance, stop
by and check
out the new digs. Thanks to the generous efforts of
Greg and Stephanie Zetterberg, the upgrade was completed at a minimal cost to the district. One student
remarked that it “looked more professional”.

group of the students to Top Foods where donations
were accepted for Children’s Hospital. Those who donated received a Henry and Josie Jacobson CD. The
book club returned for a second engagement and
raised almost $600 in two hours. Way to go Terry &
your book club!
….Did you know that over 15% of our school gets up
extra early to come to school for some extra science
learning? There is a reason for this! Thank you to the
hard for from Mrs. Pritchett and Mr. France.
….5 of the 7 finalists for the Masonic Outstanding Junior
Award at SHS were former Dieringer students. Congrats to: Zaylan Jacobsen, Hailey McCabe, Matthew
Moffat, Terron Wahl and Sophie Walker.
…..While we’re on outstanding former students,
Sumner and Bonney Lake High Schools’ Outstanding
Seniors were honored recently. Dieringer’s own Petria
Russell and Jordan Cozzi were among the honorees.
….Sumner Senior High School Scholastic Honors top
academic achievers: Samantha Wilson, Petria Russell,
Emily Nelson, Shaila Stephen, Hannah Wilson and Hannah Fox.
